Settings for 9800X3D & 5090

I’ll probably get roasted a bit for asking this question, but I’m running everything on ultra with high traffic settings on SI and either the Fenix or A350 and some Hayward airports.

What should I be looking at for TLOD and OLOD settings?

Thanks. I'm trying out AutoFPS... that app is a god-send! What a genius solution to quality vs performance. I don't need high TLOD when I'm landing at a busy add-on airport in an airliner, but when I'

I'm almost certain the LOD Is more aggressive and the image clarity is slightly reduced in 2024 due to Xbox support.  As much as we don't want to admit it, Xbox sales are what propel the franchise.

I run with everything maxed. TLOD 400. OLOD 200. FG X2 when flying GA. FG X3 when flying 737. Max frames set to 120 for GA and 90 for 737, so I do not hear my fans.

you dont need that 5090, how about you post it to me and ill put you on my staff travel.   Jokes aside that rig must fly with that cpu/gpu combo, where did you buy it if you dont mind me asking

Max.  That's what I do.  I run 1440p resolution with max everything unless I'm in and out of payware airports with heavy AI traffic and heavy weather. I may dial TLOD back to 200 though.  TLOD has the largest effect on CPU usage.

But be advised, TLOD 400 in 2024 is basically TLOD 200 in 2020.  The sharpness of scenery is not as clear in 2024 at the same TLOD.

Your rig is a monster might as well utilize it.

So I felt like my loads were heavy in KJFK, A350 and heavy traffic…I had this weird graphics popping up on like a different underlaying scenery on the inibuilds scenery KJFK.

So I would need to set TLOD in MSFS 2024 @ 500 to get the same level of detail as I do now in MSFS 2020 with my i5 7600K PC? Not exactly a great advert for MSFS 2024.

That being said, 2024 is my preference over 2020 for many other reasons (like better flight physics, massively increased ground textures/generated items down low, vastly superior lighting/atmosphere).

But I also like to keep my options open and use XP12.  Recent updates have brought it up to 2024 standards and beyond.  If Laminar would just fix the darn AA...

I wouldn't put it past Asobo to go console only with flightsim down the line.

To add to the the TLOD. It also eats up VRAM. I never understood why it doesn’t affect system RAM. Maybe someone can chime in.

Personally, I would use AutoFPS and let it manage OLOD and TLOD.  On a recent flight, this is what I was seeing.

Few questions for you if you don't mind:

  1. What temperature does the 9950x3D typically achieve when running MSFS (flying or otherwise)?
  2. What screen resolution are you using?
  3. What cooling solution are you using for the CPU?

Asking as I now have a similar setup and generally my fans ramp up quite a bit.

1. In MSFS 2024 using Baron G58 max temp was 70 (idle is 45). I get higher temps in Dragon Age, Oblivion, and Cities Skylines II than I do in MSFS 2024.

2. 3440 x 1440

3. Phanteks Glacier One 360D30 White in a Hyte Y70 case.

Thank you. I'm seeing similar temperatures, but am only achieving 60-90 fps in most cases.

Need to investigate the CPU a bit more it would seem.
