July 10, 2025Jul 10 https://www.blackboxsimulation.com/ Blackbox have released a new version of the Islander for 2024. I only purchased this a couple of weeks ago as compatible with 2024 . No discount for the previous version unfortunately. Having said that, it looks great and I'll probably pick it up anyway. Such a fun aircraft, especially around the Scottish islands.
July 10, 2025Jul 10 Finally, the Islander was on my list for some time and now I am happy I did not buy the "old" variant. BUT: what exactly is changed compared to the old compatible one? It is not entirely clear from the product description (except the modular thing). Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

Unrelated really but this is an issue now. I am very tempted to pick up Ant's Tiger Moth in the current sale and by all accounts it is flying well in 2024 (which I don't yet have) but I am reluctant to buy anything that doesn't have a clear statement as to an upgrade path to 2024.
July 10, 2025Jul 10 Author I hear ya! I'm only using 2024 now, so everything I buy from now on will have to be native 2024. It's the future for me.

It appears to be *Mission ready*, if that is your thing.. 😉 Bert

But it is overpowered , the fuel flows are odd , the mixture control is strange - watch the EGTs as you keep leaning - and the graphics are not state of the art. Oh the registration flickers but evidently Asobo are to blame. My copy is in the hangar until things improve.
February 18Feb 18 Does anyone know how Blackbox and / or Asobo handle carburettor icing controls? On the BN2 (2024 Version), the Carb Levers flip back to the up position when I move them down with the mouse, and I have a constant clicking sound. Obviously, there is a setting somewhere commanding the levers. I could not find the bindings for the carburettor heat in the bindings section of MSFS2024. Any ideas how it is named there? Thank you! May 2May 2 Does anyone notice much difference with the 24 native version compared to the 20/24 compatible original? I was up touring the Scottish Highlands this week on my motorbike in the fantastic weather. I called in at Oban airport and timed it right to buy a sightseer ticket on the Hebrides air Islander scheduled service from Oban-Tiree-Colonsay-Oban. I was extra lucky to name drop my day job and get to ride "up front" in the right hand seat with a headset and chat along to the pilot and watch his techniques. A truly magical experience and highly recommended if you get the chance at £140. Needless to say now I'm back home I'm keen to recreate the flights in my sim, I have the 20/24 compatible Islander already but wonder if it's worth the upgrade to the native 24 version? 787 captain. May 2May 2 The 2020 version is one of the most dated products in the sim, visuals-wise and the FDE always felt really off (as someone said above, wildly over-powered). I didn't even know there was a 2024 native version. Might check it out on some YT vids, to see if there is a drastic improvement in visual and FDE quality. EDIT: Hmm, checked their website - there isn't a single picture of the cockpit of the analogue version. Only the (completely fictional) G1000 version. (The G1000 is not certified for, nor fitted to any BN-2s). Yeah, won't be picking this up. May 2May 2 I did get it, but I wish I hadn't. In the 2000 version, my PMS GTN750 worked, but not in the 2024 version. Rick Abshier 5900X | RTX 5070 Ti OC| 64 GB@3600 | India Pale Ale
May 2May 2 Rick, while looking at their website I'm sure I saw a file to download called something like GTN750 patch, might be worth a look as it may sort your issue. @JYW yep, I've just recreated my flights from Thursday, I have to say the scenery in this sim is absolutely outstanding , doing the flight in VR it was an almost identical experience. Scotflight freeware scenery for all the airports installed. The islander I went in G-BLNI had very nice analogue engine instrument and a couple of GTN 650s I think they were. I set the same power setting of 23/23 for cruise I saw in the real Islander, that was doing about 95kts, the black box version about 120kts so yes very overpowered. I've recreated my flight now in the original 2020 version so I'll leave it at that I think and not bother with the upgrade, I enjoyed it though, but maybe take the cessna caravan next time. 787 captain.
