Orbx Atlanta

This could in fact be an Orbx thing that they plan to roll out to all their products eventually. We’ll see.

They will then completely lose me as a customer, and I have something like 90% of their catalog.

Who ordered this? I mean, is there actually more pirating than legitimate sales? They’d be treating all of us as potential thieves.

I have reduced the file for a lot of textures without compromise the visual in this performance update that is coming very soon. For sure will help. Regards, Matteo

They just lost me forever. Orbx can now go pound sand. I would have paid $100 for this but now they’ve lost me as a customer.

In reading the Orbx forums it was apparently at the request of the developer. I posted in their forums but it’s awaiting approval from a moderator. Maybe I’ll get censored 🤪. This was my response to one of the moderators saying zero performance impact with DRM:

“I think you’re missing the bigger picture.  What if 200 developers all wanted their own DRM, and now I have dozens of these things running in the background whether I use their scenery during a flight session or not?  A thief was never going to pay for his scenery anyway.”

I have a few questions about this DRM.

  1. Does this app need to be ran everytime I want to fly into or out of Atlanta?

  2. Will it run in the EXE.XML when I start the sim or do I need to start it each time?

  3. What if I fly over Atlanta or need to devert during an event and I didn't start it before I started my sim?

  4. If I don't have it running, do I have the default Atlanta? Notes says it auto disables default Atlanta?

If they wanted it secure, they should have just uploaded to the Marketplace as those files are encrypted.

They answered my questions.

1. Yes

2. You need to start it before you select Atlanta, FS24 can already be running

3. Haven't tested that.  However it consumes almost zero resources so if are flying in the US you might as well start it when you start the sim.

4. If you don't have it running you get an airport full of pink buildings, ie it disables the textures.

Answer to #2 is depressing. It's like we do not live in the world controlled by AI. Even a baby can now create a script for auto-start.

Great. So if I want to fly to Atlanta, from Atlanta, over Altanta, near Atlanta, or have any possibility of diverting to Atlanta, I need to remember to start their DRM program before I start the simulator . I hope they know what they’re doing and good luck to them all 🤞

I guess they have a right to do this, but I have a right to not spend my money on such nonsense too. Never thought I'd see the day. Are they going to make this retroactive for every airport they sell?

Jack Sawyer

This is a rather disappointing revelation. Whilst it was always going to be an outside bet that I would purchase this airport (as I do not generally fly in the USA), I am no longer interested. I think they need to have a long, hard think about this one. I guess that sales figures will reveal whether they need to take action or not.

This should be interesting… the “take it or leave it approach”. I’ll be curious to see how it works for them.

I’ll be done with simming then. Been doing it since the 80’s. I had my fun and my life now has more hobbies than time. Being treated like a potential thief is not a good business model for me though. I detest pirates and like someone said, the Marketplace would have been a lot better. Your product MY money.

Jack Sawyer

I went from instant purchase to nothing. As said here before, the marketplace would have worked for most of us. If the claim is that it’s “it’s not going away “ then I’ll get used to default buildings and call it a day. Bad enough that we have several passwords to remember and then they are trying to impose a password or background application per scenery? No thank you.

Hello Gang.

Is ORBX ATL the same as the upcoming Inibuilds ATL which is also releasing today????? If it is, does this DRM nonsense also apply to the Inibuilds version?

Sincerely,

Dennis D. Müllert
