One thing they can do is just release it on marketplace. I hate marketplace but getting sceneries from there isn’t the WORST in the world. They’ll have their precious encryption without the need to lo

They just lost me forever. Orbx can now go pound sand. I would have paid $100 for this but now they’ve lost me as a customer.

How is this any different from Fenix's app? All of you people saying you won't buy it but you also own the Fenix with the same type of system lol...

Piracy sucks. It sucks for the developers, it sucks for the customers.

Orbx is being transparent about it. This isn't a shady company installing spyware on your PC. It's really not a big deal at all.

And if it is truly scary for you, you should disconnect your PC from the internet....

The Fenix app also controls some of the systems, it isn’t just DRM.

That’s the difference

Ryan, I agree with you 100%, however, this is different. The requirement to run that app BEFORE you run the sim would be tedious.

I will get it for the marketplace, because I don’t care about updates for scenery.

However, I’m glad they name dropped Contrail as I will not buy anything from that store again for the same reason.

I’ll be done with simming then. Been doing it since the 80’s. I had my fun and my life now has more hobbies than time. Being treated like a potential thief is not a good business model for me though. I detest pirates and like someone said, the Marketplace would have been a lot better. Your product MY money.

Don't worry about it! You can always buy at the Marketplace or choose freeware from flightsim.to.

I made the decision a long time ago to avoid ORBX. Why? I had a bunch of points and one day they were gone. They expired. So, I decided that I was not going to buy anything ORBX, unless it's available at the Marketplace. Most of the time it's cheaper and now it's streamed. I don't have to worry about downloading or SSD space, etc.

Good luck to all devs who decide to go the same DRM route.

I recommend this to all devs, "sell your add-ons at the Marketplace. It might take longer to push out updates, but it's so much easier for the customer."

Didn't P3D & XP11 use DRM every time we loaded the sim?

Hello Gang.

Is ORBX ATL the same as the upcoming Inibuilds ATL which is also releasing today????? If it is, does this DRM nonsense also apply to the Inibuilds version?

inibuilds isn't doing an Atlanta.

Not sure where you got that from, their next airport is London City.

Thanks for clarifying. I might have gotten it confused with the ORBX. I'll just wait for the Marketplace availability. Thanks.

Well one reason is it starts to become cumulative.
There is a growing body of evidence that WASM crashes are heavily linked to the number of running addons, apps and programs you have running connecting to the sim.
PMDG have an extensive thread and volume of research that shows a significant link.
This is just adding yet another program on top of the mix.
As others have said here already the concern will be this will keep spreading, and we will be forced to run more and more of these things.
For example if you want to fly the PMDG 737 into KATL you will be running the PMDG program in the background, maybe the Boris sound pack, 3rd party livery, maybe you have the Fenix, Ifly and TDS programs running from your EXE.xml, probably GSX Couatl as well, most people run some kind of flight tracker like Volanta, lots of people have a VATSIM client or BATC/SI running and now a scenery DRM that has to be running as well. Before you know it you've got a dozen programs running away in the background leaving yourself more prone to a lovely set of orange screens.

It would not surprise me if Orbx KATL becomes a bit of a WASM fest.

Was going to be a day 1 purchase for me but now for the first time ever I am going to choose the Marketplace over a developers own store.

History is littered with companies who impose overbearing DRM on their customers and it never ends well - Sony anyone?
I guess it continues to be true that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Unlike you Jose, I like Orbx, I've been a long-time customer and have just about everything they make. I've never lost Orb points and have many airports I got for "free" with my orbs. The DRM thing is highly offensive to me though and yes, as soon as it's available on the Marketplace I will buy it there.

I agree with the folks here that DRM is a PITA. Its yet another app running in the background and while they claim it has a small footprint it just never works out that way. In MFS2024 I was trying to reduce the number of addons that need to run.

I think the Marketplace option is gonna be a better choice.

Not to mention, the next time you have an issue, this will be what you're prompted with first hahahaha

DRM is not the problem. The problem is the idea of downloading and installing 10GB files. That's so 10 years ago.

With today's MSFS v2024, there's no reason to download anything. We buy and stream. The truth is, we don't own any of this software. We are just licensed users, or whatever they want to call it.

Last night I bought the PMDG 737-700 upgrade and it was such a PITA to install. But it was only $30, so I just did it!

As for ORBX, I still have their AU DVD that I paid $99 for just one region. I was a customer for long time.
