Fly The Line Released

Following as I'm very keen to find a replacement for APLV2 which seems to have hit a dead end in terms of development and is showing its age.

Agree with some of the comments above about flight time duration - Not sure why they would limit the hours or aircraft type.... whats the advantage in that for the user?

think the reason behind  the short flight duration is  that it gives you time  for  the return flight to end your schedule, its all explained  in the forum of just flight

Not sure that would ever be changed as that would defeat the purpose of the application. It needs to know if you arrived late or on time...  On one hand I cant say I love that but on the other hand co

But why not just leave the route length decision to the user? There appears to be sliders that allow the user select a MIN and MAX flight duration.... If the user wanted a shorter route they could just set the maximum flight duration to whatever they wanted.

Not sure that would ever be changed as that would defeat the purpose of the application. It needs to know if you arrived late or on time...  On one hand I cant say I love that but on the other hand comparing to APL I always thought it was silly you can just fly the legs whenever you want. The schedule generated would have random times with no flow into the next flight. I would fly a night one then fly a morning one right after it. Eventually I was just flying them all in real time. Also there was no designation of "days" on the schedule. In real life a schedule that touched 3 days would be designated as a 3 day trip. APL its just all over the place with 10 flights at random times so basically a glorified mission generator with an airline logo slapped on it.

You could do it based on block time. I don't know, but forcing a date/time on someone is a bit ham-handed imo. I like flying with the sim set to the scheduled time but sometimes, if it's in my line, I want to fly it on VATSIM or something, like with APL I'd save a DFW-MIA for a few days if there was a Miami event. I just don't think it should be restrictive like that, as to maybe assist with some of the other flaws you noted.

We need an APL replacement that's more realistic and takes into account realistic routing, duty day, even limits tail swaps in base, etc., I feel like it wouldn't be impossible to make it dynamic, just a lot of work and a lot of data. Not sure, but this one seems to need a bit more cooking, and APL v2 is definitely end-of-development, so yeah no great options.

I'm having fun bouncing around doing retro stuff in FSCharter - been varied enough to be interesting.

It does not work well with BATC in regards to weather. It does not read historical weather so lack of accuracy is diminished.

Need an option to use real time or historical of no more than 24 hours.

Just making sure I'm understanding correctly, the program forces you to use its app time/date rather than sim time so because of that batc would need to use historical weather to match the date on the app which I assume batc is not able to do (never used historical weather admittedly)?  I also then wonder about putting the route from the app into simbrief as that would also be based on current time and weather.   I'd genuinely be interested but if that's indeed the case I guess that's pretty much game over as far as I'm concerned, simbrief and ATC are a must have imo, kinda hoping I'm wrong here.

Yeah having read all these limitations, for $40, I'm out I'm afraid

The experimental version of BATC can utilise historical MSFS weather - So I expect that ability will come to the EA version soon.

Will see how the application develops. My initial concern is that if they've released a "short haul" version of the app, they'll release an addon that allows you to do "medium haul" for an additional cost and then a "long haul" for a further cost! 🙂 I mean, surely not....but hey....stranger things have happened.

Not sure why you would want to use historical weather. Why not just let the app change the date but change to live weather before you start the flight?

Before I purchased this app, I thought I had read where you could create your own schedules (may be wrong). I would love to have that option as well.

This program sounds like a retirees dream.

Seriously, I would love to be in a stage of life where I could actually commit that much time to this. Treat it like a job. Instead I average a single hour and a half session every two weeks. It would be a very glacial career.

As for BATC, I think it works exactly like MSFS24: It looks at the time and then uses the METAR from that time within the last 24h. If this tool forces you to set the day to 1st of the month, MSFS24 will not have the weather of the 1st of the month anyway, but only that of the time from the past 24h.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I‘d be very much interested in this tool, if it works fine with BATC and 24h weather (see post above, but this needs confirmation from someone actually having purchased Fly The Line) and if it wasn‘t short haul only. I want to fly long haul every once in a while

My Send to Simbrief button does nothing.. it should open the browser, but it doesn't. Is it working for you guys?

Not liking the interface much. On my 4K screen at 150% zoom, it's too small. Can barely read most of it. Also, when you're in a flight, the interface is pretty bad - loads of wasted space, no real info.. just looks ugly.

As of right now I still prefer APLv2, this feels not great.

I am doing tours on staralliance.org now. Especially since beyondatc now has 24hours historical, i can take advantage is the actual flight departure times that aplv2 did not have. It added i bit more realism for me. So full historical in flytheline isn't for me.
