August 19, 2025Aug 19 I live adjacent to a T intersection that has three stop signs. This street is parallel and one block north of a busy street that has three lanes in each direction. Our street has a 25 mph speed limit, but the traffic to and from the busy street exceeds the limit, and ever since the pandemic a lot of drivers ignore the stop signs, but so far there have been no accidents. What fascinates me is watching when an electric scooter drives by. It looks exhilarating, but what gets me is that people on them are standing up straight while going 30-35 mph. What happens if they hit a small pothole or if a driver of a parked car suddenly opens their door to get out? There's nothing to stop the driver from flying off the scooter and being in a world of hurt. I came upon these videos of some electric scooter drivers that I would like to submit for consideration as Darwin Award candidates:

August 19, 2025Aug 19 I'm curious why there would be three stop signs at a T-junction. In this part of the world that would be managed by (a) the road crossing the T having priority, with the stop sign on the "vertical" road only, (b) a mini-roundout or (c) traffic lights. Neither of those arrangements prevents rule-breaking of course. (Mini-roundabouts do occasionally provide entertainment when three cars reach it one the same time and each stops waiting for one of the others to make a move and you get a scene reminiscent of the Sad Hill face-off in The Good The Bad and The Ugly. 😆 ) Edited August 19, 2025Aug 19 by Holdit

August 19, 2025Aug 19 What has society wrought? Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

When approaching this intersection, you can’t see any crossing traffic until you’re right at the line marking where to stop at the stop sign. Most of the traffic comes from or goes to the vertical part of the T, as it connects to the larger boulevard to the south. I mentioned this intersection because of the number of cars that go through the stop signs. There’s not a lot of traffic, but those careless drivers mixed with the random electric scooters speeding and going through the stop signs means there’s a non-zero chance of an eventual collision.
August 19, 2025Aug 19 FreeDUMB Not sure how this is any different from all the Car, Truck, Semi, Motorcycle rider videos where people exercise their freeDUMB? Seem to recall a series narrated by Chris Barrie comments on Car Crash TV or something like that … https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5980930/ One positive the smaller the vehicle, the less damage it can do when one exercise's their freeDUMB.
