Great summary, thanks! After watching it what intrigued me the most was what he didn't want to give any details about... The upcoming surprises and new features and what they have planned out till 2028. Sounded like these will start to come in with SU4 and beyond. Hoping for tidbits and more info of some of these with the upcoming dev livestreams.

Let us hope that one of those "surprises" is a fix for the disappearing landing gear issue.

Chris, I keep trying to aid people's understanding of this, in that it ISNT something that's going to be 'fixed', because it's designed to work in the way that it does, to aid performance.  Boosting OLOD is the easiest way to see higher detail LODs, but the true solution to this is for every model to have a lowest LOD which doesn't exceed the vertice limits in the SDK.  Asobo will quite rightly consider that it's not their problem to resolve if the SDK hasn't been correctly observed.  No amount of wanting it to be true will overcome the reality that one simply cannot stuff a while load of legacy model assets into a simulator with a different LOD system and expect it to work how it did in a previous sim version.  This LOD system is different.  We have backwards compatibility, in that older assets won't crash the game, but that doesn't equate to those assets working in exactly the same way as in an older simulator.  One cannot have one's cake and eat it.

That’s not the problem, the problem is LODs can take weeks or 8+ months depending on the complexity of the model. Then you have to adjust the textures and what LOD uses what texture when.

The issue is the LOD system changing in the same sim. Fs2024s LOD system has changed from release.

We had the 2020 LOD system, the first 2024 LOD system, now the new LOD system and curve. It’s effort to keep up with it.

Keep in mind, most devs were told that most add ons would transfer over easily and set the idea that they wouldn’t spend much time on bringing their add ons over to the new platform. But here we are chasing a very unpredictable SDK.

In the meantime, in the "real world"...

Oh darn, I guess we missed the part where Jorg said the sim is perfect.

Oh yeah I totally understand the costs imposed.  And in terms of pure compatibility, very little work IS required. Asobo and MS created the impression everything would work perfectly rather than just compatibly, that's the real issue.  And it's hard to shift people's perceptions once they've been set.

This is the sim that some said was going to evaporate from the sim world anytime soon ...

Well, it's obvious that not only is it alive and kicking but above all, it's growing towards fulfilling most of the user community expectations and wants...

The cost of progress 😉

Things always roll along great until you hit a snag.

I'm super excited to see MS/A move the platform from another stodgy 'flight sim' which we have already had for decades to something with vastly more potential.  Right now I still have so much enjoyment flying airliners w/ Self Loading Cargo & BATC but I def plan to delve into missions at some point.  Here's another favorite of mine, hinting at how something like MSFS can be used:  right now I'm playing the Fedex Cup Tour Championship on 2K Sports' PGA Tour 2021, played at East Lake in Atlanta.  So I start my day flying in from my home town near Denver, get off the plane and head to the course!  I'm current tied for 1st after 2 rounds wish me luck!

Who said that?  I never saw anyone say that.

In the early days of 2020, some questioned Microsoft's long term commitment after they just ditched FSX one day.
And they were right to as well.  It is suspicion based on fact and previous history - their abandonment of FSX.

Then of course, there was MS Flight as well!    So plenty of room for suspicion based on previous abandonment of flight sim products.

However, we never had a Jorg at the helm in those days.  I do believe he is sincere in trying to hold it together and driving it forward as much as he can.

I believe it was IanRS who hinted at this at least once.
