this?

TBH that looks more like XP11 with Enhanced Cloudscapes imho.

also, runway lights?

Please dont just make claims, this is the modern internet, we can share videos and even screenshots of stuff we like and don't.

Really get the impression from what I see people sharing that, for the most part (e.g. grass and object animations excluded) XP12 is now significantly ahead in the graphics department...

  • Until MSFS has Jorg on a billboard at Dubai in an Emirates cabin crew uniform I don't see how it can possibly compete with X-Plane.

  • I hope XP does not go the photogrammetry/ortho route.  They could do so much better with their “plausible world” approach, and I think that’s the trajectory they are taking.  We can already see a glim

Yes, I have seen this many times when flying (my job has me flying through weather that most GA pilots don´t see) - it is even stronger and more mesmerizing when there is snow, but you can see it very well with the landing lights on.

It always makes me chuckle (but I have stopped setting things right after like the 10th time) when people complain about the "Star Wars effect" 😆

How many FPS do you get at work ?

Have you got'em locked ?

What about the buttkicker ?

And last, but not least!, among the three, FS 2024, Xp12 and Job, which do you find more realistic and / or enjoy the most ?

Ahead, but not there yet.

Enhanced cloudscapes is more the look of the clouds in X-Plane 12, sure they can look nice sometimes under right lighting conditions and time of day, but to me they are to low res, my opinion.

No idea what you are talking about, please show me. (i only run Linux android and MacOS so cant make such things for myself, not run a windows machine for more than a decade now)

The closest I get to windows is

Tbh, even that is too much for my liking.

Ah this age old debate again....

Debate?  Not really.  Civil discussion?  More likely.

The one's who scream the loudest have the appropriate restrictions on their profiles.  That's why we can have a 10 page thread on MSFS vs X-Plane with no heated exchanges, and even Ray coming in and being pleased there have been no reports of inflammatory posts.

And we'd like to keep it that way.

Happy to be corrected.  I didn't see him quote anyone, so I wasn't sure.

IMO, the reason MSFS hasn't killed X-Plane is because they cater to different audiences. Microsoft doesn't care because they have more sales and more people playing MSFS 2020/24 vs X-Plane. Also killing off a competitor is not wise as you lose competition and competition is what makes your product better.

I have purchased every version of Microsoft Flight Sim starting with version 4 back in the early 90's and I have purchased every version of X-Plane starting with XP9. They are both solid but I find myself playing MSFS more.

It's amusing to see this word "killed" show up so often. Bankruptcy? Austin in jail? It's not as if there's physical assets to sell or investors to pay off. Steam distribution at the least means that there will always be some version of XP available. New versions might come out more slowly. Austin's financially independent. The only thing that might "kill" XP is if he retires and decides to not pass the IP on to someone else. It won't be competing software.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Totally agree with that. People must understand that both products being similar, cater to a different audience. With the latest news, Microsoft now has access to 80 million+ potential MSFS 2024 gamers. Microsoft decided to widen the net and catch more fish but that required making compromises which would upset some and make others happy.

There's really NO need for MS/XBOX to kill off a competitor when the genre is so small.

Naw. The size of the market is irrelevant. They even tried direct slander in their developer's SDK. They happily knock off competitors regardless of size or market cap. They failed to do that in this case and will continue to fail. And even though folks may not be necessarily using XP all the time, many still bought copies of the software and that's the notch count that matters for LR. It's been said many times by those 'in the know' that 12 has been the most successful XP version to date. XP has a following. It's that simple.

What they unfortunately DID succeed in doing was rock the 3rd party side of the market.
