My max vram is going down during flight?

Featured Replies

Hi,

See screenshots when i fly i have max 15gb vram but after a while it goes to 12-13 gb. Why is this? I close all side things like youtube etc but still it doesnt give back? See screenshots. The thing is like with a350 and klax inibuilds i am right at the edge of max vram. Even with medium settings.

The VRAM usage certainly depends on the current scenery complexity. During taxi and takeoff/landing from/to densely populated airports the usage is usually significantly higher than during cruise flight.

i understand but my avaible vram decreases? from 15 to 13-12

You are asking others if it is going down? How would we know?

What do you mean? I am curious if more people have the problem that there max available vram decreases. Or any solution how to fix

Put texture resolution on low.

It's also going to depend on your settings, as post-processing like AA and FG uses VRAM.  Also, some objects that may not be obvious, like scenery lights or distant AI traffic (especially models not optimized for AI use), could account for some VRAM usage.

Strange!  Are those pictures saying your amount of Physical VRAM is going down from 15Gb to 13Gb?

I never use that monitor screen, so I am having difficulty understanding it from the pictures.

This is strange.  The maximum available VRAM should not change and I have never seen it change.  However, I check VRAM using the Win11 Task Manager, performance option (from the left pane) and then select GPU.  I suggest that you check VRAM usage using Task Manager and then compare numbers.  It's possible that maximum available VRAM as measured by the simulator (your snapshots) might have a different meaning than what's reported by Task Manager.  Task Manager is reporting the maximum hardware VRAM (the GPU's capacity) while the simulator might be reporting the maximum available VRAM at any moment in time, i.e., the amount that is not available has been reserved/consumed by the simulator for the duration of that session.  By the way, this is how memory leaks impact memory availability though I am not saying this is the case here.

Yes it's really weird. I have an 9070xt. But somehow physical max vram goes down after a while

Read what I say. It's not about usage but availability

Now why would anyone want to do that?

Something else is committing VRAM. With HWInfo64 you should be able to check VRAM usage per process.

You can't, sorry... I don't know how to do it. Check if there is something "suspect" in task manager and try to terminate it to see if the VRAM returns available.

With 16 GB of VRAM? Nah...

I have a 9070 and I have the performance overlay from the AMD driver running that shows VRAM usage although now I can't remember whether it shows available vram as well. I also may have had to add vram usage to the display but it is easy to do.
