BlackBox BN2 Islander

Featured Replies

I recently bought the 2024 version of it as it was on sale at £9. I alreadt have the 2020 version which was updated to fit in 2024. (With me so far?)

However: I don't get the clipboard which I'm told by BlackBox support should be stowed in the left hand foot-well. It isn't!

The clipboard lets you disable all the pesky walkaround clutter.

Anyone else missing it?

Unfortunately, I can't answer that Ron because I don't have it, but other than the pad, what is it like compared to the 2020 version?  Worth it for the price?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

My clipboard is located next to the front Copilot's seat, plain as day. (next to the door).

As it is in the v2.2.3 But NOT in the v1.2.0 which is the specific 2024 version

Check the thread on the official forums. I think this is mentioned there but I can't remember what was said. I think the 2024 version doesn't have the tablet but I could be wrong.

I have always been interested in the Islander and I am tempted by the current sale but reading the thread on the official forums it obviously launched with a lot of problems. It sounds as if updates have fixed a lot though.

I checked. There is an image of the clipboard in connection with gust locks, but the image is taken from the 2020 manual. I have no clipboard in the cockpit either.

There's no clipboard in the 2024 version.

The 2024 is without question the poorest version of all the BN2 aircraft ( graphically and flight dynamics ) and for me it was quite a shock having enjoyed the original offering.

An update has made the performance a little more realistic but right now only the Turbine version seems worth flying.

Having spent hours flying as a passenger in a BN2 I had expected better.

Support told me there isn't one in 2024.

Sadly even the "quick preflight" binding will only get rid of normal covers and chocks. So atm without the tablet in 2024 there is only the way to get the gust locks of manually. In general me think the 2024 is a typical quite ok and solid bbs release but indeed there is a a bit of decline in features that would be useful and no increase in visual and 3d model quality. Its def not even close to what we expect in 2024 nowadays. And some other issues as well like the fuel selectors by default in off position but internally system wise on. So you have to touch them at least once to get them working properly. Plus the G1000 version even the left screen stays off with bat on and relying on avionics master. Thats def not like it supposed to be also. But hey at least an Islander 😉

Cheers T.

Does the 2020 version work at all in 2024?

I think so. I did use it in 2024, but that was a while ago. It does not have the walk-around features of the 2024 version.

I've uninstalled the 2024 v1.2.0 and reinstalled the original one. which has been updated to v2.2.3. Mmm?

Thankfully it was only £9 in the sale so no great loss.

It works just fine in 2024, they've even sported out the wobbly spinners! God, they used to irritate the heck outta me!

Thanks for the info.  I saw the 2024 version sale price, but when I saw that there are fewer liveries and that 2020 liveries don't work, plus the other issues, I was turned off.  Glad to hear the 2020 version works in 2024 so I can get that one installed.

Ron, did you walk back to the FBO/Hangar. You may have left it behind before you walked to your airplane.

Strange you should mention this Dave. On the 2024 version all the gust locks, engine covers etc ARE strewn across the tarmac. If you have the Got Friends F4F it also leaves unwanted drop tanks littered about the airfield!
