New Huey in MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

So is the new UH-1H Huey that's now available identical to the one previously released by Taog?  I know it's their product but I'm seeing posts on FB that this new one has been "dumbed down" by Asobo (which for the life of me I can't understand why they would deliberately do this).

Depends what's in the contract. Asobo are probably working with the export version 🙂

But I'm confused...  This was a fully developed product.   It didn't need to be "built", only ported over to MS.    So I'm just trying to understand if any of the critical features (flight model, systems fideltity) were somehow degraded or not.   I'm not particularly worried about lack of an EFB or visuals.

This is not exactly the Huey from Taog's Hangar, is a mix done by them and Asobo, in fact the FM was partly redone by Asobo and the sounds too. As you can see you are still able to buy the complete Huey from Taog and they are going to do, probably, a MSFS24's Huey version...all this is from their Discord.

creating native 2024 addons needs more than simply port over. There's a big misunderstanding because MS talked about backwards compatibility (which is great!). But that does not mean you just can port "old" addons over if you want to do it native

I only had a short time to compare both the 2020 pay version and the new one.  You only get the military one for free, the commercial Huey isn't there, so if you want that specifcally, you should buy the 2020 version.

The panels are quite different (more than just no hula girl on the dash).

I'm no helicopter pilot, so I can't comment much on flight dynamics, but the 2024 free Huey seemed to have some of the exaggerated things that tend to plague default helis like needing way more side stick pressure to counter torque.  That is a thing, but seems far too much in this.  The 2020 one felt a little better, but it was not a massive difference by any means.  Again, I'm not qualified to say which one is closer to right.  You do need to fly "skid low" but sometimes you need to hold a quite strong angle.  Not sure why MS does this as it tends to make them harder to fly and less realistic.

Still, the Huey seems far better than the default helicopters for sure.  If you want to start getting into helicopters in 2024, this is a great start.  Long term, I'd recommend the Taog M500C which is 2024 native and just fantastic.

You should be counter torque with the "anti-torgue" pedals.

Wou, what a gift, thanks.

If this is for a not well baked initial release and enjoy the FS24 one year before (maybe this HUEY not exactly), anyway I have 150Hrs already of enjoyment for 150€, excellent ratio hour/€ for a "game" nowadays, welcome the next FS28/30 for to be released in the same way, yeah.

I flew it yesterday a pair of hours, great, nothing to envy the FS20 Taogh Huey, I think better in the FS24 "ecosystem". Ofc, continue improving it, thanks!

The Huey also includes night vision, by default it's the Z key. Other devs are able to now implement night vision into their own aircraft.

also double check you don't have any helicopter assistances enabled. Can't remember if any are on be default.

I am one of the heli-dumb folks out there having only operated them in games decades ago but never learned anything about them.  I have no idea how to configure controllers for helicopters and wonder how possible it is to fly helicopters with a flight yoke.  Def don't want to buy a stick but would like to be able to do very basic operation with a yoke if possible.

Yeah it's possible.  You just need to create a new profile (call it heli or something) and instead of pitch and roll axis you'd just set it to cyclic (which is like slide left/right and kinda pitch up and down).  And then you can set your physical throttle to collective axis (collective is basically the lift ie up/down).  There is a helicopter throttle axis but I'm also not a true rotorhead - it's like the rpm of the engine or something, not providing like actual thrust (that's the collective changing the pitch angle of the rotor blades to create more or less lift)

Then assuming you have rudder pedals just set that to tail rotor axis

I also recommend using your fixed wing trim buttons for force trim (I think the binding is called TRIM increase/decrease/neutral).  Not all helicopters have this (I think?) but fancier ones do and it's basically you moving the stick (or in your case your yoke) and then trimming which releases you having to push the yoke so far forward.  There's also beep trim which is like more for autopilot or helisas fine tuning.  Again don't quote me hehe...

But helicopters in 2024 are pretty fun!

I honestly recommend the default H125.  It's twitchy but I feel it's more controllable than some of the other totally boring and fake simple flight models.

Bless you and thanks for that Ryan that's a great and simple start!  i don't have rudder pedals so I use an old but nice Cessna trim wheel for rudder and it works great.

Cheers...next stop Isla Nublar 😄
