Coming back to MSFS

Featured Replies

I have been gone from msfs since 2012. Have been looking at msfs20 and 24 and have decided to go with msfs2020 because I don't want to have an Internet connection to play. I know that I will need a new computer for it so have been shopping. I have Decided on this system and my question is since I'm no computer expert will the following system run msfs 2020 smoothly. Thank you for any help.

  ASUS - ROG GM700

CPU : AMD Ryzan 7 8000 series 8 core
CPU Base Clock 3.8
CPU Boost Clock 5 gigh
Ram 32 gig DDR 5
GPU NVIDA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti
VRAM 16 gig GDDR7
600 watt power
Liquid Cooled CPU
4 Filtered Fans
Clear Case w/RGB Lighting

If you want to see the realistic Bing terrain photoscenery as you fly, then you will need an internet connection.

pretty sure you can cut 2024 functionality down to basically "offline" by e.g. downloading and local installation of planes and scenery, then disable online players, live traffic and live weather and there you go. In short, unless you have a 5bit line I *strongly* suggest you look into 2024, it's just such a difference compared to 2020 in terms of fidelity and performance after SU4, with 2020 you would miss the best part and bet on the wrong horse right from the beginning.

600 wats is a little low though.

It's borderline but doable with his pc specs. I have 650w PS and I have yet to see a game like MSFS 2024, XP12, BattleField push power requirements beyond 500w.

Nobody should be happy with borderline. I would never skimp on a PSU.

Agreed, however MSFS2024 with his specs, won't require more than 450w at the most.

My advice is to go bigger. And online 😉

You'll end up with terrain that will look worse than FSX.  You will also have to download a hack to remove the annoying "no connection" popup that you'll get.

In practical terms, I'd advise you need an internet connection with MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024.

I guess it's possible to fly 2020 offline but as said above, the scenery will be no better than FSX was. MSFS is designed to be used on line as it streams photorealistic scenery.

If you really want to fly with no internet, X-Plane is better suited.  By default, it's core flight simulation features don't use streaming elements.

Those computer specs will run 2020 and 2024 ok with internet connected. The cpu is the weak point. Try to get a 7800X3D and you're good to go. My PSU is 600 watts and has never shut down. But I can't upgrade without a better cpu.

X-plane 12 is so good that some people prefer it to MSFS and it works great offline. But if you go online later, then you will have spent a ton of money and wish you had MSFS.

Flight Gear is also an offline simulator, and all the addon scenery, etc. is free. Here's a look:

As stated above, you need an Internet connection for either MSFS 2020 or 2024.

Bert

As stated by others, I would not recommend off-line use with MSFS.

Also, the (off-line) scenery and topography of global scenery being worse than (default) FSX is most likely true…conjuring up some remembrances here…better forgotten…🙂…

Yes, XPlane is amazing if you really have no or very poor internet. Completely offline (it can pull in live weather but works even if you aren’t connected, just without live weather), high quality. I’d be happy with XP 12 if I really had no internet.
