2024, how to create custom cockpit views please

Featured Replies

And load them once created?

Internet searches all for 2020, other information here and there conflicts.

You'd think this would be straightforward...

Thanx.

Sigh...payware...

I'd just like the view system we had in FSX, simple

Chaseplane is definitely the way to go... yes it is payware, but the adjusting, setup and absolute ease of use pays for itself instantly when you get the exact view you want... you wont regret biting the bullet on this one, especially if you are looking for the 'right' views...

Yes it is payware, but Chaseplane is the answer and has been since P3D days - although EZDOK did give it a run for its money back then.

Well okay I give up:  will investigate, thanx.  Got thousands of dollars tied up in this hobby so what a few $$ more...

Under Keyboard controls there are "SAVE CUSTOM VIEW" and "LOAD CUSTOM VIEW" commands...that's what I use.  CTRL+number and ALT+number.   It seems to save them per-aircraft too.

I have an ancient gamepad zip-tied to my yoke.  I set up the gamepad to handle my view switching...I just bind the gamepad to those commands noted above.

Chaseplane really liberates you because you can have so many different views available whereas the default system is very limited in how many views you can have. It's definitely worth it.

Yep.  Go into controls, keyboard and search for SAVE. You'll have up to 10 views.  I use usually 6. Bind them to ALT + 0 - 9 (however many views you use).  Then do a search for LOAD and then bind to CTRL + 0 - 9.  Then do a search by keys for each ALT and Ctrl binding to find out if the keys are blind to other functions.  By default, they are.  Unbind the key combo from the other function.  Then things should work.

I use 1 - 6 as follows:

1: lower overhead

2: upper overhead

3: FMC

4: pedestal/radio stack

5: Centerline of cockpit (helpful for staying on centerline)

6: EFB

What would a hobby be without dropping money on a constant basis LOL

I have to agree on Chase Plane.

It has some small issues for me (amplified turbulence effect) but the positives far outweigh cost. As many views as you want. Flyby! Cinematics! Tower View! Ease of use. And, for me, the camera is smoother and faster with Chase Plane.

Another neat feature: Airport Overview

This.  If it’s just for saving custom views, you don’t need chaseplane.  I have mine set up so ctrl-alt-number saves a view, then the corresponding number on my number pad recalls the view.  I use the same general pattern for my cameras:

1 EFB

2 looking down at centre console

3 rear right side passenger view

4 rear left side passenger view

5 special function (not always used)

6 FMS

7 left side forward passenger view

8 overhead

9 right side forward passenger view

0 special function (not always used)

I have mine setup up to make some sense to me based on what the view is and where the button is on the number pad.

Special functions are aircraft specific where you need a specific view, ie I have one set up on the MD11 to set the dial a flap, or on the 727 as the engineer panel.

A) atl+ctrl+num (top row, not keypad)

B) atl+num (top row, not keypad)

You might map other keys to load 'B)'  --- I used the numpad keys

These custom views are stored in <drive>:\<the sim>\LocalCache\SimObjects\Airplanes\cameras.CFG and htis is where youought to change them not in the file with the same name in the packages folders.

This is for FS2020

Instrument views are already available to bind to your joysticks.

Custom views you have to set up, save and then Bind.

I have everything saved under the plane Name to avoid MSFS confusion. Ive lost to many Custom views when I did not.

ex. Keyboard- saved as A320
Throttle saved as A320
Yoke saved as A320

Then go to plane number 2, says 737

Copy keyboard A320 settings, Save as 737.  Adjust if needed

Do same for all your planes.

Custom views will have to be redone.

Do this for both General Controls AND Airplane Controls

Not really hard once you figure it out.

Lots of videos out there. Just go MSFS 2024 joystick bindings.

None of them are great and some are actually confusing and wrong.

Just pick what you need to learn from each one.

Chase plane is also good and better if you are starting from scratch.

To late for me. Everything is pretty much set. Takes me 15 minutes to set up a new plane.
Most of that time is setting up the new Custom views.
