Airports you miss from previous sims

Featured Replies

@Christopher Low's topic on recent airport purchases got me to thinking about fields I used to regularly use back in P3D that are still unavailable (or at least unavailable at a comparable level) in MSFS.  Two fields came immediately to mind:

KSFF - Felts Field from Orbx.  This was a wonderful and unique GA airport from the folks at Orbx.  The Art Deco terminal and clock tower certainly helped with the appeal, as did the large surrounding area coverage so critical to good airport realism back in the landclass days.  And for those of us who are fans of the turbine and piston Dukes (from RealAir in P3D) it was alway fun to plan a trip to Felts with the piston Duke to drop off at Rocket Engineering for the Royal Turbine conversion.  Then fly out later with a beautifully converted Turbine.

KRDD - Redding Municipal Airport also from Orbx.  Strategically located at the northern end of California's Central Valley, KRDD always seemed the perfect waypoint for my virtual GA trips from SoCal to the Pacific NW.  The fact that the package included nearby O85 - Benton Field - didn't hurt either.

Anyone else have a much-loved airport lacking equivalent treatment in MSFS?

Orbx has a few good gems once again (I highly recommend S43 Harvey and Bill Womacks 7S3 Starks Twin Oaks) but overall their initial portovers were lackluster.

Also I want to see a nice rendition of KBVS (another PNW airport just SE of Orcas Island).

I tend to wonder if orbx stopped their little airport series because of all the decent freeware offerings?  Pacific Northwest area does have some awesome freeware.

I think there is a version of RDD out there but not as high end as I'd like.  No O85 that I can see.

Hadn't realized until the aforementioned thread that Bill Womack had brought Starks Twin Oaks into MSFS.  Will have to get that one for sure.  Lotsa good memories flying into and out of that little field.

Yep, Spinoza has one, but...  screenshots are underwhelming to say the least, and of course no O85.  I asked for opinions on it a year or so back but no feedback so I've passed on it.

Broome YBRM-ORBX's one for FSX and P3D was lovely, we only have a default non-handcrafted one in MSFS 2024 plus this MSFS 2020 compatible labelled only mod YBRM - Broome International Airport - Airports for MSFS | Flightsim.to.

I had completely forgotten about KSUN.  For some reason I didn't fly there often, but it was well done and an intriguing airport with the sloped runway which was quite the novelty in P3D.  Something we take for granted these days.

I recall barely squeezing a few questionable airplanes in and out of there.  Yep, a must have!

Does any Broome mods work in 2024 from flightsim.to? I loved ORBX's version back in the day for Prepar3D.

I have a 2020 version of KSUN (I think by Spinoza), but it is pretty weak.  Would easily buy a good 2024 version as most of my 2020 stuff is retired.

Also, I don't do community folder hence the MP purchase.

I restricted myself to good quality photoscenery areas in P3D, and that was effectively the ORBx TrueEarth GB and Netherlands packages. That being the case, there are a couple of airports that I would love to see in MSFS 2024.....

  • EGPO Stornoway
  • EGCN Doncaster Sheffield

The big problem with the second airport is that the real world version is closed (and therefore not included in the PMDG navigational database). I am aware that there are plans to open the airport again, but I do not think that it will be any time soon
