Seconds long pauses in flight

Featured Replies

If you have any mumudesign powerlines, solarfarms and/or marinas in your community folder, try disabling them. Many users including myself found them to be a significant cause of pauses and stutters since SU5. They were not an issue in SU4, so this is new.

Indeed, after reading your post, I removed these and things have been a lot smoother since.

Glad it helped. SU5 was almost unusable for me until I removed them. Lots of users reporting the same on the official forum.

I mentioned I had new onset stuttering and long frames coming into EBBR this morning. When I rebooted this afternoon and launched 2024 I got an alert in-sim that there was low bandwidth so some features yada yada. I wonder when you get this message if it's actually that the server's bandwidth is the limitation, the message is reporting on the server's actual status, since a Speedtest run immediately indicated I had 840mbps.

I'm surprised no-one else has mentioned this [yet] so let me be the first: give the free utility AutoFPS a try. Absolute game changer for me - I was able to ramp up my quality sliders significantly and flights are smooth and stutter-free.

Do we have any idea about why these cause a problem and is there a potential solution other than removal? Has anyone spoken to Mamu to see if he can help to resolve?

These stutters are starting to word not allowed me off now (almost as much as those automatically played video adverts on this site). I had two perfectly normal stutter free short flights this morning, but each one of the three short flights that I have conducted this afternoon has been affected by those long stutters when in the air. I have tried messing about with the cache (changing it to 32GB, and then 64GB), but it did not seem to make a lot of difference. I have never suffered from stutters of this kind in either MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024 prior to the SU5 update. I am starting to think I have been taken back in time to P3Dv4 dry

Hello Gang.

I have also noticed and experienced the stutters after the latest release. It's all over - in flight and on the ground. Something got messed up on the latest release.

Sincerely,

Is this something that they are addressing in the SU5.1 Beta?

Well, I eliminated the Community folder and, of course, everything was smooth as silk. Now the fun begins, adding one thing at a time and testing it.

I'm 75. Hope I have enough time left... 😄

Come on with 75, you've got plenty time left. I've done this fiddly community folder thing once, added 3 at a time. If the error comes up you have to troubleshoot between 3, but it saves a lot of time.

One common cause of short pauses/stutters is Navigraph's EFB app or toolbar panel with moving maps/plane location turned on. The EFB version can be more mysterious because it can keep running even when the EFB is hidden.

I wonder if the SU5 link is coincidental and that what we are seeing is slowly evolving higher demand on servers (or, reduced capacity of servers) such that seemingly randomly we will have noticeably poorer performance. If it really relates to SU5 why would we experience one flight fine, the next affected, the next fine. This is what I've experienced recently as well except it really was just the one poor arrival into EBBR recently but a few stutters a bit more than standard in a few other recent flights but those we very modest.

You may well be correct, Noel. I had a couple of short flights this morning with stutters, and then zero stutters in any of my flights this afternoon!

If I had these problems I would go join the su6 beta. Life is better in beta because there are so few other fliers using up the data the servers are sending. Some people don't believe this. I do. I have at least a half dozen times went back and forth between release and beta and see the difference. I manage to do such switches in about 20 minutes.

Glad you tracked the problem down to something in the Community folder.

It's usually the case.

I have an absolute stutter-free experience in SU5. I only have a RTX3080, so the stutters, I believe, are rarely caused by 'raw power' issues, and almost always configurations and addons.

The two things I did to get the smoothest performance in any sim I've used are:-

  • Set the VSYNC setting in 2024's Graphics setting to "Half refresh rate"

  • Use an app to regularly delete the rolling cache and GPU caches

For the latter, I use this:-

https://flightsim.to/addon/105190/clearskies

I always get a dramatic improvement when using the above, when things have slowed down or some stutters creep in.

It's a utility that delete's your GPU caches and the rolling cache. When using it, I'd recommend to leave all option selected on the interface except "Delete Sceneryindexes". (In my experience that's not necessary).
