Question About FS2024's Two Community Folders

Featured Replies

FS2024 has two Community folders, one called just Community, and another called Community2024. Can anyone point me to some 'official' documentation or comments by Asobo that indicates which of the two Community folders is scanned first when the sim is searching for an aircraft file to load? It makes the most sense to me that the Community2024 folder would be searched first, but I would like to verify that.

Thanks,

Al

By the way: these Community folders are now supposed to be in the xbox / Content folder too, I have discovered ... my sim is the Microsoft Store version, so this might vary for Steam users, but my new location for Community folders is here:

C:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content

I found this when updating the newest Kodiak with the current installer, which spat out multiple error messages when trying to install in the Community folder/s in the old location. When I pointed it to the new location, it worked perfectly without any errors. I have since ensured that all pointers go to this location now and my system is working perfectly well.

I suspect this is to help us avoid problems we have had in the past with fairly common long filename errors.

Thanks for the link, @Bob Scott I'm now beginning to understand the categorisations and protocols…and I was completely confused before 👍

Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

I use AddonLinker. I have set AL to put all 2024 links into community, and to never put any links into community2024. I keep community2024 empty. If some folder, somehow, gets put in there I'm going to move it to my addonlinker folder scheme, and addon linker will move the link to it to community, never to community2024.

This simplifies things.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

And by the way, my community folder is C:/msfs2024/community. So the paths to the asset links in it are all nice and short.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

The split is useful, but I still treat Community2024 as the clean/native side and keep anything older or uncertain out of it until I've tested it. It makes troubleshooting a lot easier, because if something odd happens after an update I can disable the legacy batch first instead of trying to remember which add-on came from where.

For aircraft and utilities I'm a bit more cautious than with simple liveries or scenery. Some 2020 packages work fine, but I don't assume they are harmless just because they load.

Exactly the same here - I use Add On Linker, and put everything into Community. Community24 confused me at first, but it just sits there completely empty and ignored.

@BijanStudio Can your Bijan Seasons Enhanced be placed in the regular Community? In my case, by default, it’s always placed in Community 2024.

13600KF - 32GB DDR4 - RTX4070 - UW1440p GSync - USB DAC/Amp - 2TB NVMe+2TB SSD - Windows 11 - Gladiator NXT EVO - 1 Gbps Fiber  - MSFS 2024

So, after reading the official explanation link, I'm still not understanding why I should put my 2024 only addons into the community2024 folder as opposed to the regular one. Will the aircraft behave the same? Look the same?...I have not even used the 2024 folder yet, even with 2024 only aircraft. Am I somehow cheating myself by doing this?

I've only ever installed directly into the main Community folder from day one. Never had anything anywhere else and never had any issues.

Yes it can. Simmarket app forces installing it in community2024 folder, but if you purchased it from my own website, either folder will work.

I put absolutely everything in 'Community' - native FS24 add-ons, FS20 port overs ( official and unofficial ), scenery, utilities, mods, the lot. I then have all that linked to my Add-Ons Linker. Everything runs perfectly.

My 'Community2024' folder is empty and, as far as I know, has never been used for anything. In fact, I don't really know why it's there.
