You aren't a member of the vulnerable the alerts are aimed at then. There are plenty of people at 75 who are vulnerable, and 80, and 85, and 90, and older. And infants, children, pregnant women, those with health conditions.

Most people have common sense. These warnings are ignored by the vast majority. I’ve seen 20 year-olds lying in the sun overseas and suffering sunburn. I’ve never seen a 50+ year old do that as they have more common sense.

Everyone is vulnerable if they don’t use their brains.

Yes, but there are many in society who are still vulnerable regardless of using their brains. As quoted above, even following all the guidelines can still result in adverse consequencies. There are lots of people who are vulnerable due to health conditions. As for "using brains" there are those with early dementia that may not be as sharp.

The warnings are valid, even if they only help a small minority.

80F inside the house is a bit too warm for most people. You're pretty old school and grew up without air conditioning so you can handle it better than most, I imagine. In July and August we'll set ours at 76F(24.5C) during the day, but that's about as warm as we want it. Before we go to bed we drop it down to 70F(21C) as it makes it easier to sleep.

We lived in south Italy for a few years back in the mid 90s and had no air conditioning. Our apartment was on the roof, sort of like a penthouse but only half the top floor as there were 2 units, so the sun blasted the whole structure all day. The interior temperature would get up to 85-86F(30C) even though the walls were concrete block. It was so uncomfortable that I would take a cold shower right before I went to bed, leave my body wet, and had a fan blowing on me in bed so I could sleep. Opening the windows to allow in a breeze didn't help because the breeze was actually hot air known as the Scirocco wind from northern Africa. I wonder how many Americans have ever had to endure something like that, other than old folks who grew up without air conditioning?

Indeed.... perhaps why we should help them with warnings. 😀

There are no downsides to warning people so warn em, I say.

I think if the MetOffice didnt warn people much, im sure that would be deemed wrong by many, too.

Maybe we should have hydration breaks like the footballers? 😁 Every couple of hours a loud siren goes off, we drop everything and somebody runs over with a cold wet sponge and a bottle of water..

When we were out in field with the Army in Idaho in the middle of the summer the rule was a canteen of water every hour. We had a buddy system to make sure your partner was getting his/her water.

I think that's what it is. We have the a similar issue here where the weather services now issue severe storm and tornado warnings to scare the bejesus out of everybody, and then it almost always turns out there was no actual sighted tornado, just a "radar indication" of "possible rotation".

However, if they didn't do this and there ended up being an actual tornado that killed people and/or destroyed property, they would be criticized for not issuing a warning.

Our local TV station once said that there was a tornado at the intersection of two streets near my house.

After I returned home later, there was no damage either at the intersection, nor at my house. As it turns out, it was a "radar-indicated threat". I suppose there could have been a funnel up in the clouds, but it did not touch down. The local stations are in a bad spot, as they're darned if they do, darned if they don't as you mention.

I checked the METARs last night at 11pm at was hotter in Birmingham EGBB at 27C than it was in the Caribbean
