There are tons of add-ons with issues, including extremely expensive products from prestigious brands. For example, I went over a year without being able to use PMDG’s DC6 until someone on Avsim told me a trick involving developer mode.

Then there are other well-known developers here who constantly release alphas and need dozens of patches just to get their products to work reasonably well, or who release products they know will malfunction because they rely on the simulator’s default systems which they know aren’t right and don’t even bother to develop and customize those systems themselves.

Someone said we’re living in a golden age of simulation, but I increasingly feel like I have a second job as a software tester one that, instead of making me money, actually costs me money.

It think there is still one that got away, not from MScenery but that AI generated kind of fake 737-200, it's still there in the MP.

There is a large amount of garbage on the marketplace.

Rarely even weed through it anymore to try to find a decent add-on!

It is a moneymaker for Microsoft so I don't expect much change from the garbage that abounds.

Yep that is the Scenery Creation developer ryan pointed out upthread. Judging by the airport scenery they have released, I am guessing they are from a certain very large country where piracy is rampant.

MScenery existed for a few years pre-MSFS, selling scenery on Simmarket. The quality was similar to what we saw on their Marketplace 'wares'. Perhaps a little better! When they saw the opportunities available to them from the (completely unregulated) MS Marketplace, they made that their sole channel. I mean heck, Simmarket actually lets you complain and ask for support. Far easier for MScenery to sell on the MP, with no chance of refunds and a ticket to Zendesk probably resulting in support like "Have you tried rebooting your PC?"

Now, I'm personally not into bashing absolutely everything that hails from Russia these days (I don't believe in judging a people, by their government), but I do recall that MScenery were Russian, during these earlier times when they were a tiny bit more transparent. (Fun fact: my son's first ever payware purchase was an airport scenery by MScenery, 4 years ago).

Where I depart widely from Avangel's new hero status is that, in a typically shill-like way, she posted a pinned caveat on the video comments to say "I don't blame MS or Asobo in any way for this". Really? 😵‍💫

As @Lucky38i pointed out, this happened because MS run an unregulated marketplace. If you leave a door open, a thief will often run in, so it's your responsibility to not leave your door open - especially when it's other people's money that will be taken by the thief. I do find it endearing that some people believe that MS Corporate decided to ban MScenery after watching AvAngel's video. Now, that is influence! 😆

I know my comments will upset some AvAngel fans but they're just one person's opinion. It shouldn't be a shock that not everyone likes, values or respects this YouTuber. You are still wholly free to love the same jokes, the Orcas Island pattern and the American pronunciations from a Brit.

Personally I don't see why people are rejoicing on this as a win. There's nothing stopping mscenery from rebranding and doing the same thing. A better post would've been a revision of requirements on posting on the marketplace, descriptions that accurately depict the product, pictures that actually portray the product. If submissions to the marketplace can't adhere then they are denied.

Maybe this event will push MS/Asobo to do precisely that (enforce rules on screenshots& descriptions that accurately depict the product, etc.)
