  1. That would be ATP license. Air Transport License. That is what you get the next step up from commercial pilot. Perhaps a real ATP will come on and comment??
  2. I don't think you will regret buying it. I first flew MS Flight Simulator I think in 1985, (Bruce Artwick days), and have loved it since then, but I have been with X-Plane for I forget how many years now, and have never regretted a single minute in either one. I never bought P3RD even though I am a real world pilot, when MS quite the franchise, I did too. LOL
  3. Good post and good information, even for some of us older folks that have been around awhile. :-)
  4. This version doesn't start you off at the same airport you first started at. After ending a flight from KLAX to KOXN I closed X-Plane, the next time I started I was still at Oxnard instead of Los Angeles. I like that better than always starting from the same place.
  5. So far no problems with pb 14 in the sim itself, however Planemaker will not run. After opening if you click on any thing to change anything Planemaker immediately closes with an error message from Windows. I tried Plane maker with X-Plane running and with out having X-Plane running, did a complete cold reboot and still had the same problem with Planemaker. filed a bug report. could others try Planemaker?
  6. I would think that accurate flight model is the most important thing in a simulator. That is the most important thing to me, second and almost equal is accurate 3d cockpit. Of course I do like the eye candy of realistic scenery. :-)
  7. I just retried the open ocean landing of off KLAX with real wx on, wind was 220 at 16 waves set at 3 ft the landing was successful but very rough, I don't think you could land in more than 3ft waves the tail of the plane was dipping into the water while setting on the water. Was able to take off again Please don't take this as being confrontational, but open ocean landings are possible if the water settings are set up to be reasonable. I thing X-Plane's idea of turbulence is much overdone, and I suspect that is the case of water settings also. I wish LR would tone down the turbulence in the simulation to be more reasonable. I have flown in turbulence over Greeley Co severe enough to pop out the rear windshield on a C172N and in that kind of turbulence didn't have as much trouble as you get in X-Plane. Happy day to everyone,
  8. If your water settings are at max, I would find it surprising if you could land a small plane in it. That would be 20 ft waves at 20 knots or more.
  9. I tried an ocean landing of off KLAX, with the default 172SP with floats successfully. I was able to do several landings and takeoffs, I did set my water settings very low. Made sure it was a calm day with winds at 160 degrees. Perhaps the default water settings are too much, or maybe a bug in the area you were in.
  10. Try resizing back to 1920x1080 and see if the menu shows up.
  11. X-Plane 10 has a 32 bit version in it. I use it to run the T34C Mentor although the T34 will run in 64 bits just won't tune the radios in 64 bit.
  12. All of my 3rd party aircraft work except two. I have a Piper Cub PA 11 I don't remember where I got it, I think it was before X-P 9 perhaps, you have to hand crank it to start and it won't keep running after cranking it. The Caranado Archer, alas, it crashes the whole program trying to start it, the fourth click on the starter button, terrible sounds erupt and goes to black, kill it with task manager, to even get out of it, that's the first and only plane I have had do that, in fact its the first and only crash of the program I have had. All of my Caranado planes work well excepting that Archer. The Caranado Cessna's the 152 and the C172 do just like the default C172SP, takes 2000 rpm to get it to move, Also the Alebo Tomahawk takes a lot of rpms to move.
  13. I have filed a bug report for the C172 not moving until the rpm's reach 2000 rpms. I think they have welded the tires to the ground just a tad too much. LOL. I had one instance of the Barron not cranking the starboard engine. Loaded another plane then went back to the Barron, and both engines cranked OK.
  14. pb13 seems to do OK, a couple of quirks so far. I find with default C172 to get to moving, have to really give a lot of throttle about 1700 rpm before it gets t moving rocks sideways a bit then finally sluggishly moves out. Once moving I can throttle back, things seem normal then. Flies well, seems to climb more aggressively than it should. The climb n pb12 was near perfect this one goes back to a bit too optimistic. The only third party plane I have tried is the T34C Mentor from J. Rollon, (a 32 bit plane), the PT-6 engine in it starts whereas it didn't in pb12, flies really well. All in all seems to be improving. I haven't really seen anything to report a bug yet.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion which I have taken. I wasn't aware of this program, a really nifty app. It does show my cpu speeds fluctuate wildly with Firefox or Chrome. Solid with MS Edge. Don't have any idea why, never seen this before.
  16. Thanks for the suggest. I have checked power options, they are set to high. I don't know why the browsers bring the cpu down, that's the only thing that does, the cpu runs at full power with everything else and at idle it runs full power. I've never found another app that does this except Firefox and Chrome. I just don't run these if I am simming.
  17. One other thing that may be a consideration is having a web browser open while simming. I am running Windows 10 Professional on my new computer, Task manager tells me the I7 6850K cpu is running at 4.36 Ghrz. If I open Firefox, (my favorite browser), the cpu goes crazy, from 4.36 it starts cycling down to as low as 1.8 Ghrz, and fps in X-Plane 11 starts jumping all over the place. It does the same thing with Chrome, which I use for some work specific things. I have to use MS Edge now I I open a browser. I fly out of KPWA so scenery is light, I get around 60 fps most of the time, with one of these browsers open I get down to 40 and as low as 30 fps. I don't know if this is just specific to my rig but would be interested if anyone else has these browser problems. I jus don't use Firefox or Chrome if I have X-Plane 11 or 10 up. May be something to think about or look into.
  18. cinima verite is at the ver bottom of the view menu.
  19. How much RAM is too much RAM? I don't think you can have too much, I have 64GB, that will probably be a drop in the bucket a couple of years from now. Remember when 4kbytes was enough to go to the moon. :-)
  20. With the default 172 on descent to a field I get down to as low as 900 RPM at 65 knots IAS and 500 ft/min descent rate. That's cutting the power at about 100 ft above ground level.
  21. Mine on all arircraft, always default to off. Wheather I start cold or have engine running when i start, the brakes are always off. I always exercise all my controls before I start a flight, even though the trim wheel is the only one that I must wake up before starting. I've always felt it was better to exercise the controls bfore taking off, thats what you do in a real plane anway, to make sure all controls are working right.
  22. So far, it is looking pretty good on my end. Still no IDing the navaids in the Cessna.
  23. Just restarted X-Plane 11 to test a change and update to latest came up.
  24. A small problem, but I really wish the Cessna 172 SP could ID the navaids when you tune them in. ( The B58 does). perhaps if everyone asks, they would put it back in, I would think it wouldn't be too big of a problem to get that put in. :-)
  25. I'm strictly a GA person, all my planes have the brakes off if i start with engines running. it is this way in X-Plane 10 also. I don' remember if X-Plane 9 was this way but now if i start the sim with engines running i must immediately set the brakes. I have the Saitek Cessna yoke and trottles trim wheel and rudder pedals, the only ne i have to wake upwhen i first start the sim, is the trim wheel. The trim wheel has always been that way in every edition of X-Plane or FSX. I never did P3rd.
