  1. As an American visitor, you should build into your choice between Lands End and The Lizard the unique ties the latter has with America. In December 1901, Guglielmo Marconi made the first trans-Atlantic radio transmission from Poldhu on the Lizard to Newfoundland.   2. There is still a military presence at St Mawgan but small compared to what it was.   3. Beautiful scenery and great pics but I've never seen the Atlantic that calm. It is after all Newfoundland next stop from there.
  4. Pics 5 to 8 are actually my original home town! I spent a lot of time on the beaches around the bay in Pic 5 and worked for the company that dug the holes in Pic 6! There is an airport at St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly that primarily hosts Isles of Scilly Skybus airline services. One of their aircraft is the Twin Otter so you'll realise the runway there can't take a DC3! The landing is I think at what was RAF St Mawgan now the Newquay region airport EGHQ. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_St_Mawgan You can see old military dispersals to the right of the runway in Pic 16. The civilian airport is the building to the right of the runway. The much larger main military buildings are to the left, now screened by trees. That side of the airfield was used in Virgin Orbit's failed attempt to launch space satellites from a converted Boeing 747. Virgin chose St. Mawgan because of it's proximity to the Atlantic, so that launches could be made over the sea, and the very long runway (9,000 ft). For the same reasons, St Mawgan was at one time a diverter airfield in the event of Heathrow being unable to land trans-Atlantic airliners. Each year, the station hosted what was then the annual Battle of Britain Day air-show which I went to as a child. That's probably when my interest in aviation began and why I'm on this website!

  11. It also happens if you come into close proximity with AI traffic, or at least it does with AIG which is what I use. You should get traffic warnings to allow you to maintain separation (the AI won't move) but if you leave the sim unattended and have a near miss, it will be on HDG mode rather than LNAV when you come back.
  12. The American agency that publish weather data has recently moved their files to a new web page and I believe internally restructured some of the data itself. That's messed up quite a few flight sim tools which draw on those files. I have to say I haven't used the 737 lately, although now the EFB is included I've dusted it off! It may be that El Diablito is right but if there is a continuing problem, I'd have a look at the PMDG website and see if they report problems with the source data. The data is still available but access to it has to be reset.
  13. Depending on your desire for realism, the fact there are very few remaining real-world operators of this particular model might disappoint you. There are none in Australia for example.
  14. That's a bit misleading in two ways. Firstly, the UK Government doesn't invest: it grants licences for oil companies to invest in the North Sea. The government will collect taxes when those reserves come on-stream, not pay for the drilling. Secondly, it's not so much "more" development as replacement development as old reserves run out. This has got to make sense for two reasons: 1) the Ukraine war has shown you need energy security and ultimately that's more important than price and 2) you only stop carbon emissions by cutting demand, not supply. If the oil doesn't come from the North Sea, it'll come from somewhere else in polluting tankers, which increases emissions instead of reducing them. What the government should be doing (and isn't) is seeing that there is more investment in getting the infrastructure in place to support green energy. Nuclear generation to start with but also beefing up the grid to move all this electricity around (there is a wait of years to connect new wind and solar to the grid) and greatly increasing the number and quality of car charging points. Most of UK housing was built before 1919 and a lot of it (including mine) doesn't have off-road parking, so its owners would have to rely on public chargers.   15. I once saw an interview with an airline pilot. He was asked if he felt a heavy responsibility for the passengers his flights carried. He said that didn't concern him at all, in fact he never thought about it. His one and only concern was not killing himself. That's the best recommendation for human pilots you can get I think.
  16. I have both the Fenix A320 and the PMDG 737. They're broadly similar in terms of sophistication. I do think the A320 is marginally prettier to sit in, especially after the recent update but I believe it's also a bit harder on framerates. Having said that, both run pretty smoothly on my water cooled I9-10850 and RTX3080. You haven't said what settings you have in MSFS.
  17. A while back, I watched a documentary about the German V weapon programme. After the original site at Peenemunde was heavily bombed by the RAF in 1943, much of the work building the weapons was moved into various protected sites. One of these was a huge concrete dome in the Pas De Calais (La Coupole) which protected underground tunnels used to store and launch V2 rockets. This was attacked in June 1944 by Lancasters, which were the only aircraft able to carry Tallboy bombs. Although the bomb could penetrate 16ft of concrete, this huge dome dome wasn't penetrated but near misses hitting the ground at 750mph penetrated under the foundations and tilted the whole dome at a dangerous angle. The site had to be abandoned.
  18. Although most desert areas would be excellent places to generate solar energy, so it gives a bit of balance. Of course, humidity is 24/7, whereas solar...isn't.
  19. To tell the truth, as someone who stuck with P3D for quite a while before switching to MSFS, I don't miss that scenery.
  20. I have the same problem: it's telling me the internet connection my internet connection may be blocking access to their website. If you check one of those "IsItDown" sites, it says they are down for everyone.
  21. If it was a plane you were familiar with in the sim and if you were able to get radio contact with your nearest Rex Cramer (see left), possibly. Otherwise, assume crash positions.
  22. I have migrated just this week. No issues with MSFS that I've seen but I haven't completed a full flight yet. I have a 3080 GPU and there are no changes to recommended settings for Windows 11. Therefore, there are presumably no graphics benefits. It may be my imagination but panning may be a bit smoother. There were a few things I had to sort out. First is getting into the BIOS and finding the EUFI setting as mentioned above. More problematic was updating the CFosSpeed driver (whatever that is). The CFosSpeed website is useless: it doesn't want to give you an update but sell you a new version. In the end I updated via the MSI Dragon Centre and that found an update without problem. The Windows 11 update told me I'd need to make the EUFI change before I ran it but it didn't flag up any driver changes needed. The other thing is the Windows has moved things around e.g Advanced Sound Settings that allow you to route some sounds to speakers and others to headphones for example. It's there, but you'll have to find it all over again. Such things will pass.
  23. Actually, that's not right is it? You don't enter ZFW at all. The FMC knows the empty weight. You enter the number of passengers and weight of cargo (exc baggage) and the FMC adds it up to come to the ZFW. (Sorry, bit rusty, flying the Fenix A320 until PMDG get their EFB sorted out!). But you DO need to select kilos or pounds etc.
