  1. Yes, give Little Nav Map (LNM) a try (link). It is a free, but incredibly powerful utility that will do the things you've mentioned. Gate numbers and taxiway layouts are completely visible when you zoom in to the airport on the map.
  2. Hope Jay won't mind me answering on his behalf... just zoom in on the map view and as you get closer to the airport you will start to see the gate layouts. And yes, you see the gate numbers.
  3. Funny you should say that... started some early spring cleaning the basement on Saturday and found my original boxes of FS98, FS2000, and FLY! Brought back some memories, and also helped me realize just how fortunate we are with flight simming these days.
  4. Welcome, Silvio. Lots of helpful advice and useful information here to help all of us maximize our simming experience. Jump in, the water is just fine.
  5. Wow... I've tried this before and it didn't work. Will have to try again since I am an avid OneDrive user. Appreciate the tip, Jim! Edit: Just tested and it works... very happy camper here! Thanks again, Jim.
  6. I completely agree with you. My point is, a person with my same hardware and settings, but with a 4K monitor would definitely have less performance, but I'm guessing the impact on performance with DL on/off may be similar in magnitude to what I'm experiencing. At the end of the day, the OP wanted to understand what impact there would be to having DL on/off during the day. And yes, each person should do their own tests since there are myriad hardware/software configurations. I do appreciate the dialogue.
  7. Only the ability to manage your ports, VLAN, etc. via web interface, otherwise unmaneged will do.
  8. Hi Mazelda, Networking brands are a lot about personal preference, but the following 8-port smart switches are affordable and should do just fine. Links are to Newegg. I'm sure others will chime in also. - NETGEAR ProSAFE 8-Port Gigabit Smart Managed Switch (GS108T) (link) - Linksys 8-Port Business Desktop Gigabit Switch (LGS108) (link) - TP-LINK TL-SG108PE 8-Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch (link)
  9. Appreciate the question, Simbol. My testing is not about specific settings in the sim (other than DL), so the FPS values themselves aren't germane, just the differences between them for each test (impact to performance). I included the impact to turning DL on/off in the scenery since the airport appearance is dramatically different (much more pleasing) with them enabled. Turning DL off in the scenery didn't have an impact for me, but the airport looks much worse (very dim). Since you asked, I am running a 27" 2K monitor with 4xSSAA and FXAA off.
  10. Did some more testing and decided to post the results in an Excel spreadsheet. Again, this is not intended to be a blanket statement on performance, but an A-B scenario with just changing a single item for each measurement. Overall, DL performance impact is negligible for my specific system.
  11. Egbert - I did a simple A-B comparison and had zero performance impact going from 12 midnight to 12 noon. With the FSL A320 loaded at FB KMSP Gate F10 (engines running) at midnight with DL enabled and both taxi and landing lights on, I was averaging (after running for 5 minutes) 33.5 FPS. Then I changed the time to 12 noon and let the sim run for 5 minutes and ended up with the same average FPS, 33.5. This is just a simple A-B comparison where all that is changed is the time of day. Just a single data point for the conversation, not a blanket statement. For me, DL in P3Dv4.4 does not have any performance impact when going from night to day in my scenario.
  12. Beautiful scenery and a great airplane. Nice shots!
  13. Egbert - I agree with Simbol... it has no impact one way or another for my current system. Suggest you create a heavy DL scenario, then change from day to night and back to see if there is a performance impact. Should be fairly easy to see. Would love to hear your findings.
  14. What exactly were you doing that you think may have caused this?
  15. Hi Alberto, I am running P3Dv4.4 Client and v4.2 Content, and LIPX looks absolutely fine. You can see what add-ons I'm running in my sig below. Are you using any kind of mesh scenery add-ons?
  16. LatinVFR KMIA is nice and works very well ImagineSim KATL is very nice, too... but FlyTampa is taking a shot at it, but no release date. FlyTampa has a nice KTPA. Not sure about the others. Don't know of any regions that wrap all these up in a bow. The three above all work just fine in P3Dv4.4.
  17. Well, purchased and downloaded my state, installed and fired up P3D. I must say it looks very different. However, I'm not a fan. I think the overall look of PS is an acquired taste, at least for me. Kinda like chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Both are excellent, but one can have a preference. I know developers are working on lots of new technology and I look forward to seeing what they come up with on this front. But for me... I'm just not there yet. Thanks for the arm twist... now I know for sure, at least for now.
  18. I agree. Looking forward to all the PBR updates coming down the pike! Regarding the sun, P3D (and FSX) have always had an issue rendering diffused sunlight through an overcast sky. I suppose this is something maybe HiFi Simulations can tackle, or maybe even LM. Not a huge distraction, but it would be nice to see it addressed some day.
  19. I appreciate, and agree with your analysis. However, my point was, all things being equal, the move from a 1060 to a 2080Ti was dramatic. Simple results from a simple A-B comparison. The reasons for the improvement are not as important as were the results. I'm hoping Daedalus has a similar result.
  20. What a great airplane. Every time I go to Oshkosh I spend quite a bit of time checking them out. I'm sure its a sweet ride. I really enjoy "steveo1kinevo's" YouTube videos flying that bird.
  21. Wow, what an amazing shot. So cool that the airline streams that view to the pax. Thanks for sharing, Luis!
  22. Hi Daedalus - When I moved from a GTX1060 to the 2080Ti, I had dramatically improved performance [roughly 8.5 times]. Before removing my 1060, I created a scenario with the FSL A320 (engines running) at FB KMSP (gate F10) at midnight with DL enabled and both taxi and landing lights on. This scenario represented a situation I wanted to enjoy with great FPS, but knew I couldn't with the 1060. My FPS was 4.7. I saved the scenario and backed up my P3D settings. After installing the 2080Ti, I reset P3D settings to what I had with the saved scenario, then loaded up that same KMSP scenario. I was floored to see 40 FPS. The improvement for my specific PC configuration was dramatic, to say the least. I have since been able to significantly raise P3D settings and now enjoy excellent FPS in all situations. Couldn't be happier. I hope the same for you.
  23. I agree, specifically regarding MSFS and P3D. I remember a time, probably late 90s, early 2000s when NVIDIA and AMD (formerly ATI) went back and forth from year to year trading the top spot. Then NVIDIA started holding the lead, which still remains, IMHO. Again, competition is good, especially for the consumer.
