  1. How does OVR Toolkit differ from the Desktop display you can get with e.g. a G2 Reverb by hitting the "Desktop" button on a controller? Is it essentially about ability to customise the windows you throw into VR? I've had a play with Desktop+ (free) but I'd like better to understand the functionality differences. OVRT is cheap and seems well regarded, but I just want to be sure it's not duplicating what I can do.
  2. Update: the pausing/audio issue in MSFS has now stopped - solution seems to have been to plug in the USB C connector direct to my gfx card. Maybe the extra juice that USB C delivers over A has done the trick. I am 3 or 4 sessions in with no problems at all, now, with MSFS at any rate.
  3. Took me an age today, but eventually it will update and the thing is fixed when it does. Proper pita.
  4. Do we know if there's a way to save all configs? Gfx, controllers etc? Would be good. I thought I'd lost the lot but it turned out controllers survived. Gfx tweaks are easy enough, but resetting 20 axes/buttons would be a pain.
  5. Just bought it and one flight later, I'm sold. Lovely, fps-light, just fun for less than 3 pints of Guinness that we can't get in a pub anyway 🙂
  6. Really? Just flew from EGLC past the Dome, canary wharf, the city, the Eye and the BT Tower and I thought they were terrific. None of the melted look of NYC. Crisp and impressive though a bit of a hog on frames. But this was VR, maybe the difference is more noticeable in higher res.
  7. I am surprised by how much I've adapted to the G2. My initial impressions were short of what I'd hoped to find - small sweet spot in particular. But a couple of months later I love it. And I mostly don't notice blurriness - my guess is that you train yourself to move your head rather than your eyeballs, so you keep the sweet spot centred, so to speak. VR-Optician lenses have helped, too. Wish they would fix the sound/black screen issue which is an occasional pain. But I have enough hours now in VR (not only FS) that I honestly feel I've had my money's worth. I've not flown MSFS or XP in 2d since the G2 arrived. Off topic: the G2 works fantastically and natively (no messing with controllers) with Until You Fall, currently on sale on Steam and highly recommended.
  8. Loved my Real Air Spit. Fingers firmly folded. But not holding breath, given current quality of 3rd party addons.
  9. You learn something every day! Given the per eye resolution I'm surprised it's good with dials etc but you're obviously getting good results with it. I may have a go, since I suspect the FOV is better than my G2 so it would be fun to experiment.
  10. Do you mean PSVR as in PlayStation VR? That's the only PSVR I know. Does it even work with a PC?
  11. Weirdness: I no longer get the volume thing, but I now get - with slightly too much regularity - an issue where sound cuts out; then the hmd goes black; the sim freezes; and a few seconds later it unfreezes and I carry on from where I left off. Luckily the "freeze" is just that - since it happened last time as I was landing - and when it restarts you are where you were when you left off, with all settings preserved. Anyone else had that? Annoying, but not a showstopper (and I've not now flown non-VR for I don't know how long, so I am not about to stop).
  12. Just to add: I have acquired a pair of prescription lenses - VR Optician - Prescription Glasses for Virtual Reality Headsets and it helps a good bit. It turns out, oddly, that you need lenses that relate to your distance vision, not your close up vision. It has made my G2 a good bit nicer. And practice has meant that I no longer see a sweet spot so much.
  13. Let's snark together brother! 🙂 I get it, to be fair. Frustration boils over. But I've just done a wonderful few legs in a new Scottish bush tour (checkout the freeware) and I've got spikes like Stargate pyramids in the middle of a bloody Loch and I still don't feel the need to tell Avsim about it. But I know YMMV! 🙂
  14. Are these reported to the Devs? Just wonder if there's much benefit in having them here?
  15. Not everyone is on top of the forum news every day - I for one am glad of the odd repeat news, so don't apologise for it. Unless you do it daily 🙂
  16. @Muskoka the mouse issue rings entirely true with me - especially in the A320. Programming the FMC is a major pita. It feels like I'm dragging the mouse through treacle, and then to "latch" it onto a specific button is laborious. My fps in the 320 aren't great either. Suspect my VR use is likely to be more GA based.
  17. Do you have the old mod in the Community folder? I had the same issue after the last update, till I removed it.
  18. Nice review, which seems to be becoming a habit! Thanks for this.
  19. Got the same issue with the X570 mb. Rare - maybe once in 2/3+ hours, and it tends to hang for a moment then return, so it's not awful. But a fix would be nice.
  20. 1. You're blind I'm afraid. Works well with simple HOTAS as long as you know your buttons. 2. Not very. Could use a custom strap with some weight on the back to balance what is a heavy front end; tightening the straps helps a good bit. 3. Sweetspot is the area of particular focus in the centre of your view. You will learn to move your head to bring e.g. a dial into that region to enhance focus. Not to say the rest of the view is all blurry - but this sweetspot is noticeably nicer. Door I am not sure - the "screen door" effect on earlier VR HMDs was a noticeable "gauze" that seemed to sit in front of your lenses - I don't see this at all with the G2, which is a good reason to have one. Pancakes I can only think of sugar and lemon 🙂 It's a nice bit of kit. Takes a bit of getting used to. I've added some custom prescription lenses and they help too.
  21. I started with the Level D 767 in FSX, then moved onto some of the PMDG birds - and all of the good payware has not just manuals, but worked examples of flights, with instructions from cold and dark through take off, cruise, landing and shutdown. Literally following these helped me learn the basics to a really decent level - then forums are your friend for more sophisticated stuff. Not altogether useful I know for MSFS, right now - but since you are a FSX fan there's a place to start, at least. I love it. Also the Zibo mod for XP11 is amazing, and free, and there are a ton of great online instructional videos if you want to learn the 737 that way. Great stuff.
  22. I am not using the Steam version so you'll get a better reply from others, but as I understand it they work the same - which means to say, you don't need Steam VR or Steam WMR running. Get your HMD plugged in - that usually starts the WMR portal for me. Start MSFS - and hit the VR button and you're good to go. NB the controllers don't work. Use the mouse and a HOTAS. I set up my own mouse/keys for centre HMD and toggle VR but by default I think they are ctrl+TAB and Space. I find I sometimes need to mouse click to make the MSFS window active if it seems not to respond (but that might just be impatience!) Be aware there is a new graphics settings page for VR and all settings will be at low to start with. Hope that helps.
  23. Nice vid. How do you record that, when the screen shows two different lenses? Is there an app to record the whole thing? Thanks.
