  1. I suspect what just happened to me was the autopilot disconnecting for, as per QRH, Flight Envelope Protection but I'm not 100% sure... I'd been happily cruising at FL370/M.85 for an hour or so when the warning horn went off and "Autopilot" came up on the EICAS. A/P, A/T, Vnav and Lnav all remained lit correctly but the A/P clearly wasn't in VNAV as the 777 booted the throttles and started climbing quite sharply to well above FMC and MCP flight levels. I was connected to Vatsim, using AS2012 weather (NOT uploaded to the FMC) and the winds had been swinging around a bit where I was (between Iceland and Scotland over the ocean). I use FSUIPC wind and pressure smoothing so they're never dramatic nasty shifts or gusts. Happening somewhat unexpectedly I can't actually recall what the wind was doing at the moment it occurred so I can't describe the situation precisely and am just trying to fathom a reason for an AP disconnect like that. So could, for example, a wind reversal (as in common is FSX) at a slow rate of change trigger Flight Envelope Protection or am I barking up the wrong tree?
  2. Ha! I got one of those as well but no idea how. FCOM is really useful on Program Pin Error, it basically just says you have a Program Pin Error
  3. That's certainly my experience as well, the 777 seems about 10-15% better than the NGX and I have Performance tweaked the same on both.
  4. No probs this end, FSInn just started normally as always.

Without audio and text visibility it's impossible to tell what the root cause of the problem was and we don't have the pilot's side of the story either. I'm only going on 9.5 years and about 5,000 hours on the Vatsim network (worldwide) and my perception is that it's a tiny minority who cause issues (of whatever type), it's not always of their doing yet they get the blame anyway. It isn't just pilots with badly tuned mic's, low skill levels and abysmal communication abilities.

Please don't generalise like that. It is very small minority of pilots on Vatsim who cause problems but your post suggests it is the majority. It isn't.
  7. The Woodpigeon doesn't only have flex but flex that varies with humidity! It's a whole new dynamic flex engine because when it's humid the wooden frame obviously swells, the fabric gets tighter and the flex reduces. Also as most threads say at some point, "I'm sure I remember Robert saying somewhere" that it will also have an all new photo-real pogo stick and it's this that has delayed release.
  8. Totally agree Tony, I always use default locations and never ever have a problem with it. Provided one follows the rules of the OS in question (e.g. Install as Admin, Run as Admin etc) then stuff just works, every time. I've always taken the approach that default locations are what they are because that is where stuff is supposed to go by design. I must admit that I find it hard to believe that people still don't get the "As Admin" thing, years after Vista first introduced it!
  9. You should also check the airfield charts - usually the textual information page - for anything regarding Preferential Runways.
  10. You have to remember that FP's from vRoute containing these have usually been originally produced (possibly months previously) based on a historic weather forecast and GTW neither of which you can be aware of. You can pretty much guarantee that your OAT will be different, that the wind will be different and your weight will be different and therefore your performance will not match that of the original flight from which the FP was sourced. In other words, there is no point copying these parameters from vRoute because they will be meaningless on your own flight. Just use the route itself and if you want to include such figures then you will have to calculate your own based on your own weather and weight.

Oh yes. In fact until a few months ago I still had FS2002 on a laptop for when travelling and the NG was the best airliner on it. It still got used at Vatsim events in hotels etc. That laptop recently died & got replaced so I'm all FSX now. My NG days are at an end :(
  12. Oh yes indeed but if anyone hears a Scot, a Welshman or a Northern Irishman talking I can't imagine people ever saying "He's talking British" yet a Brit he most certainly would be. Funny old world innit
  13. There is no such thing as a "British" accent. There are English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish accents but no "British". I hope this helps
  14. So that'll be another 2-3 years before they might try and revisit the genre! What amazes me is that the add-ons industry must have told them in no uncertain terms that the concept was a non-runner yet they still went ahead with it! When the likes of PMDG say "errr, no" then that's quite a significant red flag... unless you're M$ of course!
  15. There is an option in FSUIPC to set a hotkey to "restore all engine control" (words to that effect), it's invaluable if you've accidentally disabled one since it works immediately.
  16. Richard - check out "How To - Custom Waypoints" in the Pilot Training forum on Vatsim UK. Tis all in there matey :good:
  17. It's definitely temp doing it. +6 for a TAT will do that to you and it's wrong at that level. I use AS2012 and never, ever, use DWC. I don't like what it does to wind directions, perhaps it plays games with TATs aswell?!
  18. Err, why? I and many others have hundreds of NGX hours on Vatsim with no problems at all. In fact as a "Vatsim aircraft" it's one of the easiest to use on the network that I've ever come across.
  19. Another of my machines with IE9 and Microsoft Security Essentials is reporting a threat as well. EDIT: MSE is reporting the problem as "Backdoor:Win32/Caphaw.D" and classifies it as 'Severe'.
  20. I just had a 'malicious software' alert off Norton when viewing the PMDG support forum. Using i.e.9.
  21. It's good to see PMDG moving with the times Robert! I would definitely go for that so I can get the Woodpigeon ReadMe before anyone else (even though I know it won't actually open as advertised). I'd be more than happy in paying another $50 for any readme expansion packs that you come up with. Now, I demand to know the release date or I will never buy another PMDG product and you will go bust. I hope this helps.
  22. A landmark FSX product being developed by PMDG which will be a true game changer and set a standard that few can follow. Well, unless they're expert in doing fireproof gaffer tape on rudders.
  23. Great to hear some news on the Woodpigeon because rumours were rife that this had been shelved due to problems in animating the folding wings and simulating the appalling take-off performance (unless the runway had been mowed). Looking forward to the previews :)
  24. You weren't by any chance parked near the fuel box were you? Or drove past it? That certainly auto-fills other aircraft but I've no idea if it does the NGX. I just avoid it anyway just in case.
  25. No that's not correct. It works perfectly well.
