  1. I did an EDDF to KSFO yesterday - 10hr+ flight and at the end I was had 20 tonnes of fuel left usign ASE for the weather and a 100 CI so you did a lot better than me lol I was aiming for 10 tonnes reserve but at least I know now it's a matter of knocking a bit more off my fuel planning.3 minutes late at San Fran so not too bad really.John Ellison
  2. Same here but I found what works for me is to keep the descent rate, usually 700 ft/min, then at 50 ft press F1 and then flare. Most of the time it will get me down at TDZ.Not perfect every time lol as I still tend to land off centreline lol. I try to land with flaps 30 every time as well, that way it is consistent. The AOA DVD helped in landings as I was an ILSer only once but now I find it more fun to land manually.John Ellison
  3. I thought 2D panel transparency adjust (Ctrl Sht T + -) was the daftest lol along with 2 keys for pause and 2 keys for ATC window lolJohn Ellison
  4. Yep Dan - Control Shift X is the one lol.John Ellison
  5. In flight it's usually a loss of window focus - hit VNAV button twice and it should re-egngage. For a saved flight I think you have to put the cost index back in the fmc then hit VNAV twice but as I don't use saved flights I can't vouch for that one.John Ellison
  6. RTE is a route file - look in your fsx/pmdg/flightplans folder - loads of them in there. Also probably RT2. Personally I just start with the 747 cold and dark and go from there reading through the PDF tutorial.I haven't had any luck trying to load fs9 saved flights into fsx - I don't reckon one can do it.John Ellison
  7. You can use the PDF file and the RTE files - I don't think the weather files or panel states or flt sav files will work.Just choose any 747 and use the cold/dark panel state and go from there - you'll soon get the hang of it.Most of the tutorials inviolve such a looong flight so you'd need a huge amount of time to follow along. There is a tutorial on youtube but with limitations, i.e. some of it is incorrect. There are some good FMC tutorials and you need to grasp how to use it. Don't forget to use ONLY the PMDG fuel loader and load manager btw.If you are stil stuck send me a PM and I'll try to help. Don't think you've broken any rules hehe - and most here will be willing to help anyone who is stuck (or try to anyway lol).John Ellison
  8. Another one for you Dan - http://www.dauntless-soft.com/products/Freebies/WeatherDecoder/John Ellison
  9. Absoultely agree with the ui dll issue there. I'd also install the DX9 and C++ libraries before thinking of installing FS. - Highmem fix after that of course. If possible run FS on a seperate drive also as it really helps - SSD one if you can as this will be the bottleneck for the system. A fast CPU and a reasonable graphics card will also help a lot also.As for FSX - deluxe, gold, sp2 or accelleration run fine in Windows7 64bit.One other suggestion is to run addons like traffic, weather, etc on a seperate pc and run them accross to the FSX machine if spare.John Ellison
  10. Lovely livery - I asked ages ago about doing the Yananyl Dreaming livery and Mac said it would be a challenge John Ellison
  11. If it's takeoff data you require then there is the payware product TOPCAT or a freeware one on Avsim UTOPIA.John Ellison
  12. If it's the default scenery Rick I would suggest ADE (airport design editor) as it will do the job brilliantly (scruffyduck.co.uk will get you there) and the site may even have a download for EDDF.As for Aerosoft's EDDF that senery is excellent on framerates - the only ones that are iffy are Heathrow (early scenery) and their Schipol (at night) where it is a killer at the moment. Ibiza is also a hard hitter (without the highmem fix). I have a lot of Aerosoft scenery and for the most part they are really good.John Ellison
  13. If it's an IDE drive don't forget to put it to slave... obviously doesn't apply to a SATA drive.John
  14. To be fair Chad you'd be better off running FSX on a seperate hard drive - easilly installed and very cheap now.My old system is very similar to yours and gets excellent results running FSX but you will need a few things for W7 64bit to operate properly. The DX9 runtine and C++ libraries and a UIautomationcore.dll to put in the FSX folder. Have a look on simforums.com for Nick Nairn's install guide - full of excellent info.John
  15. If it's 15 lines long then either you didn't open it with Notepad or it's seriously busted.... if so delete it and fsx will rebuild it. Then edit and apply the fixes and save.John Ellison
  16. All the MD-11 MLW's are on this site - http://md-eleven.net/Specs-Technical-DetailsSeems the 11 and ER is 430.000 F and CF are 481,500 and the C is 457,900 lbs MLW.- Obviously dependant on equipment and options.John Ellison
  17. Enter -49/H040That will work then H or T then 3 figure heading, (You can also leave off the leading 0 if you wish). Also don't forget to add c or f to the temperature either.John Ellison
  18. I was wondering how the J41 or similar sized aircraft would have been delivered to the US or Australia. Would it have been by flying short hops all the way? or by ship?I know it's an odd question, but one that has been bugging me lolJohn Ellison
  19. I remember the story that Boeing asked the test pilot to show off the 707 with something spectacular for potential customers and he did a 1g barrel roll. Boeing was very impressed and asked that he never do such a thing again lol.John Ellison
  20. 2 hopes - one of them being Bob.John Ellison
  21. A pbd waypoint would work in this particular case as no atc is available to give you vectors unless you are an online flier.John Ellison
  22. You can possibly install it into a dummy FS9 directory/sub folders (FS9/(Airceaft, Effects, Gauges)) then install the liveries into that then transfer them across. I haven't tried this myself as I still have FS9 installed to run other planes.John Ellison
  23. Oh dear, mean time between failures.... Does that mean we get an engine failure after 6 years Robert? Just joking, I'm sure failures will be used by 1% of simmers but it does add a dimension to flying, Ill bet I have a failure when off the flight deck for a call of nature lol.John Ellison
  24. Cheers Brian, I didn't check then all lol but admit I forgot that one - shame on me. Emil, Ill correct my list, dunno where I got 4000 from, must have been an odd airport that I thought was general.Rick if you go to Google and type in the code for the airport and chart it usually brings up a few pages for them, although not always up to date I will admit. For example 'egll charts' will bring up lots of links to them.... just some are REALLY hard to track down unfortunately. For the UK Brians linkage there is very accurate as is any on Flightaware.com for the US and Airservicesaustralia.com for OZ, EAD.eurocontrol.int for Europe - could go on listing sites but there are soooo manyJohn Ellison
  25. I hope Mr Boeing will be as proud of the pmdg NG as you will be.As for the majority of us, we will be over the moon with it although I'm sure some willl have gripes and 'this is not right' comments but at the end of the day - what do we know?I'm sure it will be your best product to date and I still, one day, would like to see an Avro RJ done as an 'express product'. One can only dream John Ellison
