  1. Well, it's not theory, it's an FAA rule. You must maintain your assigned, or obligatory speed within 10 kts or face a possible violation.
  2. Contrary to a very widely held opinion, ATC in the United States is not authorized to waive the 250-knot limit below 10,000 feet. Apart from special conditions, flights that wish to exceed this limit (as for airshows) must obtain a waiver directly from the FAA for the flight, the event, or the facility. The military has a standing waiver from the FAA for certain flights under certain conditions. What you hear of may be the deleting of a Departure speed restriction, or even a STAR restriction when traffic is light. IF ATC in the US is allowing non authorized aircraft to violate the 250 kt rule, then they too are in violation. The ATC facility and pilot may find themselves explaining "why".
  3. Zach, Sorry, I thought I answered your question hours ago...don't know what happened...oh the computer age. I flew out of Dayton and occasionally Baltimore. I liked Dayton, and I loved Piedmont. When I walked into ops people stood up and were polite. Later, when I would walk into USAir ops you'd have trouble finding someone to help you...by doing their job. I'm retired now and all I fly is Xplane. Have a good day.
  4. I flew for Piedmont. I prefer the blue livery. The best airline ever! When I heard of the merger I assumed we were buying USAir. Wrong. Jerry
  5. Very nice shots...thanks for sharing. I used to fly for San Juan Airlines out of Port Angeles and used to fly thru the mountains VFR on a good wx day. One of the most beautiful areas of the worlld. Jerry
  6. Perhaps not. I was on final approach to Detroit one morning (RW) and had to go around because of deer on the runway. Jerry
  7. If you don't need to modify runways or taxiways then use OverlayEditor. It is easier to learn and use. Move on to WED down the road. Have fun with XPX. I've been with XPX for about a year now, and never looked back at FSX. Stay with it long enough to learn it, and your way around the XP community, and you'll learn to like it. Jerry
  8. I hope somebody can ring in here to help you. It should be great performance with a 680. I'm using a 670 and getting 60fps with HDR and 16 anti-a....most of the time. I think around 30-40 fps at KSEA. Jerry
  9. It's one of the best for XPlane. I wouldn't call it entry level however. It takes more than the normal 3x1 for descent. Jerry
  10. Go to: Environment/weather. Under wave height at mid page change the 2.0 to 0.1 foot. Default is 2.0 feet therefore every time you open xplane and want the wave height other than 2.0 feet you'll need to change it. Jerry
  11. It depends on the airplane and the autopilot. *The FA-18 has an auto takeoff from a carrier. Jerry
  12. I didn't want to type everything Robert did, but I agree with everything he said. I am now with XP10...and will remain there. Smooth and hassle free. Jerry
  13. What is the FAF on an ILS approach? Hint: it's not the cross.
  14. You make your own E6B (front side) by going here. http://ben.com/flying/e6b/e6b.pdf Jetjerry
  15. Guys, I have it and love it. I used to fly a real one a few years back. This one looks and flies much like the real deal. Cameron: Will there be other liveries? I'd love Piedmont airlines. Jetjerry
  16. Here is a print out for the front side of an E6B you can make yourself. http://ben.com/flying/e6b/e6b.pdf Jerry
  17. You may need to pan so as to give your mouse more room to run across the screen...otherwise it may take all day to run the alt up to FL350.etc
  18. Google the best glide speeds for the airplane and weight in question. Then you'll have a good starting point. I think a 747 should be able to go farther than 54nm from 33,000. I did a 707 from 100nm out at FL350 and made the rwy. Jerry
  19. I try XPX ATC with each new update. At present I do not use it...yet. If you depart and arrive from an airfield with a nav-aid you choose for your route, proceeding directly on course, then it seems to work OK. However, if you join a route more than 4nm from your departure point it seems to consider you off course and keeps chirping at you. Jerry
  20. I just remove GIZMO to the tesktop when it is not needed for the aircraft I'm going to fly, and put it back for those that do need it. One problem seems to be...especially with the LES DC3 is: I get very low FPS if I've already run XPX. Therefore I must restart XPX (sometimes the computer) after reinserting GIZMO for the DC3 / and others, to run well...then I get about 60FPS. *There is a known sound issue with both plugins being installed at the same time with the CRJ & SSJ. Jerry
  21. Thanks again JCOMM for your prompt reply. As you can tell by my ignorance with XP, I am rather new to it. I appreciate your help...and your friends help as well. When I was searching the web looking for answers I noticed the AN24 had a new V2, so I assumed this to mean it was NOW compatible with XP10, and perhaps the YAK had not been updated yet. Thanks for confirming this. I am now off to buy the AN24, as Felis' work is outstanding...it rivals pretty much the best stuff made for FSX, only in XP they tend to fly more like real airplanes. I trust this is also an issue with you being an aerospace engineer. One of the great things about this hobby is the ease of jumping international borders. Where in Portugal are you? I am in Georgia, USA. Thanks again for all your help! Jerry
  22. Jcomm... I have the Yak40, and I love it...me being old school...started on round engines. I have some questions: I am using only XP10 (in the USA). *The CAM functions do not seem to work. *The click spots in VC don't seem to work. *The distance to Dest on the LOAD sheet doesn't change for me...Should it? *It also seems to be more pitch sensitive than it should be...is it? If so, how do I fix it? I have removed GIZMO. BTW> Do you have the AN24? It also looks great. Do you know if V2 is compatible with XP10? Thanks for any help. Jerry
  23. JCOMM.... Thanks for the info/advice. I am off to buy the YAK40 now. You'll hear from me in a couple of days after I've had time to read the manual and fly it for a few hours. I flew a Blanik once...loved it. Thanks again, Jerry
