  1. Great idea - now if he can just come up with a solution to my fundamental lack of space for anything like that!!! :-)
  2. I'd be interested to know how their heart rates during a display compare with those found during combat. I remember reading about testing during the Vietnam conflict which showed that night time carrier landings gave a higher pulse rate than combat - I'm guessing that flying F18s less than two feet apart during a display is even more stressful than that!!
  3. I purchased the Shawbury package recently, & have been very impressed with it. The addition of different tree types really does make a difference to how the landscape looks, & the range of buildings & objects that have been incorporated is extensive. Unfortunately it does all come with a bit of a hit to FPS, but then that is only to be expected with scenery this detailed.
  4. Can't say that I've noticed any fps drop, or visual glitches since installing 2.3
  5. Strange, I downloaded the latest update from there just a couple of days ago.
  6. Bought & installed the Shawbury scenery, as Welshpool & Cosford are my usual bases for FSX flying. Been impressed so far, the addition of different tree types makes a much bigger difference to the landscape than you might think. Only explored a small part so far, but already seeing much in the way of new scenery & objects. Looking forward to exploring it all in my new Just Flight Chipmunk!!
  7. You're using ATI, so not sure what to suggest other than check that your drivers are up to date. Stick with it though - DX10 is worth the effort!
  8. I have an i7/960 running @ 3.2, with 12 gig DDR3 RAM. I am running NVidia drivers 335.23. I recently installed an o/c GeForce 750Ti with 2 gig RAM, & have since been fine tuning FSX. I have followed the advice in Word Not Allowed's guide, and have taken on board some of Kabote's suggestions; I have set the affinity mask according to the recommended settings from the Gatwick FS Club's on-line tool. I now have a system that runs smoothly, with good FPS (locked at 30), and very little shimmering. However, I am getting stutters of anything from 1 to 5 seconds duration, and they appear to be random - they will happen even with the aircraft sitting on the ramp, engine off. The top part of my FSX config file is below, together with a screenshot of NVidia Inspector. If someone could point out to me where I have gone wrong, then it would be very much appreciated!!! 9. And your evidence for this is what, specifically?
  10. Agree with everything above - great add-on & no FPS impact.
  11. As with many others, I have never had a problem with Flight 1 downloads, or needed to disable anything in order for them to work. I stopped using Norton several years ago for all of the known reasons. I was using AVG (free) until I had a major problem last year which was identified as a couple of nasties that had got past it. On the recommendation of the guy who fixed it for me, I am now running Avast!, which so far seems to be doing a decent job - but then I thought the same of AVG until it all went T/U!!
  12. I have an i7/960 running at 3.2. My graphics card - an NVidia GeForce 560ti, has just died. What would people suggest as a sensible replacement to get the best out of FSX with DX10? Thanks, Bernie
  13. I have a GeForce 560 Ti, which used to work perfectly for FSX. However, after a couple of months away, when I try to start FSX, I get the above message. The card still works pefectly for everything else (MS Office, XPlane 10, Skyrim etc). I am using driver 335.23. Does anybody have any ideas what's gone wrong & how to resolve the situation? Thanks.
  14. Since the first Sublogic version came out. Prior to that I had various sims on the Amiga & C64.
  15. Have a look here: http://www.ukvga.org.uk/ for lots of good advice & links to good quality, free gliders. Also here: http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_lib/index.php?cat=18 For an excellent T21 - which is what I just happened to solo in!!! ^_^
  16. Very funny and sadly, probably quite true!!
  17. The news that A2A aircraft will be available for P3D has just made it a lot more likely that I will be making the switch.
  18. Thanks for that J.C. I've already discovered that all eight cores are working away, but overall cpu usage doesn't seem to rise above 40%. The graphics card on the other hand is pegged at 98% - 99%! Think I know where my next upgrade is going to be! Are any NVidia cards recommended as being particularly effective for XPX?
