Installing FSX-SE
Since my last posting I have Uninstalled Steam, done a shutdown and restart, de-fragmented the computer and re-download the Steam utility. I am back on the Steam website and ready to re-install FS Steam (FSX-SE). But I'm back in the same quandary again. The drop down window on the Steam page offers me only one choice that will work on my computer and that is; C: / Program Files (x86) / Steam / steamapps / common / FSX There are a couple of other options which are all drives such as D, and Y, none of which are available on my computer. What I want is to install it to my C: drive and I just can't see a way to do it. That full address would be; C:/FSX To all of you who offered possible solutions please accept my sincere thanks and to all who have any more....Don't be bashful! I'm sitting here with my finger on the INSTALL trigger on the Steam website And to Andy a special thanks.......I tried it but I couldn't get it to work! Quink

Installing FSX-SE
As those of you who have FSX-SE may recall when you installed it on your computer using the DTG site you were presented with the installation page, or at least I was, that offered one installation destination and one only. There was no way to select anything other than C:/Program File (x86) and that's where my FSX-SE is now installed. I do not have FSX installed. It was totally removed awhile back before I installed FSX-SE. A couple of questions if I may......... Is there any way to shift or change the current location (above) of FSX-SE to C:/ FSX-SE? Do any of you have two complete folder trees for FSX-SE installed and if so is it necessary and why? For example, when I go to FSX-SE tree I normally go, C:/ Program Files (86)/Steam/steamapps/Common/FSX and there I find all the usual folders, ie, Addon Scenery, Modules, Missions, Sim Objects, etc. but within this FSX tree there is also another steam folder. Clicking that steam folder opens another steamapps/common/ FSX folder and that folder also cantains another entire FSX- SE tree with all the same FSX folders as mentioned above. Another complete FSX tree Folder! The folders within both of these FSX folders such as Modules, Sim objects, don't always contain exactly the same files but they are always the same in each FSX folder tree. I'm wondering if this is normal? Should I delete one or is there some deep mysterious reason for ir? The path to this second FSX tree is; C:/Program file(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/FSX/steam/steamapps/common/FSX A final problem is that despite the fact that I have been using FSUIPC since 2004 with no problem whatsoever when I installed it in FSX-SE the ADDONS menu would not appear in the simulator menus tab and I was curious since this is the only way to access the program if anyone else has experienced this. As those of you who have used this program know......there is no life after FSUIPC! My thanks in advance for any help..... Quink

FSX throttle goes to full thrust on its own
Quink replied to a post in a topic in Hardware Controllers: Joysticks/Yokes | Throttle Quads | Rudder Pedals | Drivers etcbump, same problem here. My throttle is a Saitek X65F and the slightest touch of either throttle will send it to full power. Frederick D. Coleman

RSR: "A year from now [...] the first previews of our upcoming 7_7 project"
Gentlemen, Before I retired I had flown almost everything from a cloth winged Cessna 120 to a Boeing 747-400 and of them all my favorite of the bunch, not yet mentioned here in this thread, was the "funnest" of all of them. My nomination for the next Classic would be the .......... The Convair 340 (drum roll, please!) With it's low and slow, multi-stop routes in varied terrain and every type of bad weather you could imagine it was challenging, instructive and definitely the most fun you could have with your clothes on.

Beeping Sound
In my experience the most common consistent beeping noise occurs when the autopilot is disconnected in flight either by mistake or on purpose. Kyle Rodgers has a very well done video to help you handle this problem which has worked well for me. Here is the link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p2HDQZp-os&index=19&list=UUkW4jYLfruaR5oQF61-DgKA Hope this helps.

Requesting updated United cockpit configuration
Until I get the time to double check this it will remain tentative but I'm almost certain that any aircraft that is ETOPS certified must have the Dual Battery Pack. Thus, "dual battery = 1". This is most helpful for duplicating United's 737s and is most appreciated. Please accept my thanks for posting it.

Unable to find latest update for 737NGX
Thanks, DJ It just didn't occur to my tiny, little mind to download the same 737NGX Base package again and after not finding a link to the most recent update, 1.0.6461 update I tossed in the towel in frustration but, with your help, I tried again and it worked. 1.0.6461 is now installed and functioning well.

Unable to find latest update for 737NGX
I originally purchased my 737 NGX directly from PMDG and have had no problem finding, downloading, or installing the original installer or any of the following updates until today. I currently have the update SP1d installed and it works as advertised but for some reason I am totally unable to find the latest update, 1.10.6461, any where in my order history as I did before with SP1d. Can anyone please speak slowly, use small words, and give me simple "Dick, Jane, and Spot" directions as to how to access this new update? Your help will be most appreciated!

Tutorial charts in SP1d
In the new SP1d the very excellent Tutorials #1 and #2 both come with the exact same set of charts. In both cases these are the charts for Tutorial #2, EHAM (Schiphol) to LOWI (Innsbruck). Tutorial #1 might be a bit less challenging if those who need them might be able to download these charts from PMDG. Thanks in advance

Crashing in tutorial 1
Lewis, There is lots of good advice in this thread but probably the best advice is DON'T CRASH! If you are below about 500 ft AGL on an AUTOLAND approach and you don't see a white FLARE and RETARD armed in the FMA bar in your PFD you've basically got two choices. Turn off your autopilot and flight director and land by hand or execute a missed approach. Or, if your feeling stressed out, hit the pause button and go have a beer and think about what caused the problem. Most important of all! Know what you're doing! Here are several links to videos produced by Ralph Freshour, a former Boeing and airline instructor, now retired. These have been produced especially for the PMDG 737 NGX and are free. The first link is an index to Ralph's videos and after you finish the links posted below then go to the index and study any link beginning with MCP. When you finish all of these and PRACTICE them you'll be "The Ace of the base"; Index of Ralph Freshour’s PMDG 737 NGX VIDEO’S https://www.youtube.com/user/rfresh1011 737NGX Boot Camp Series Part 1a v2 Flying Perfect ILS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eVX3F18GH8 737NGX Boot Camp Series Part 1b Flying The Perfect ILS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrRWQJgCbxU 737NGX Go Around Tutorial Part I (Ver2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKCYM4POsYI 737NGX Go Around Tutorial Part II (Ver2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awN4sSdNGjA 737NGX CAT III Ground School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiFm12TwugE&spfreload=10 After you finish these videos return to the index link and see each of the videos whose title begins with MCP. This will give you an intimate knowledge of how your MCP works and that is vital. To coin a line from an old movie......."Save points, you don't need no stinkin' save points!" One of the most useful addons I own is one called FSiPanel. This utility will allow you to repeat any approach, of any type, under any wind and weather conditions, anywhere in the world, as many times as you want and when you screw up you can return to any fix or STAR near your intended airport and try again. Short of having a million dollar plus, full motion simulator in your garage, you cant beat it. Here are three links to FSiPanel; FSiPanel http://fsipanel.com/index.html FSiPanel for FSX demo video #1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaZqJtDDXV0 STAR training using FSiPanel, showing new iFly747 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5GuT_0PlYA Good Luck

Problem with frozen virtual cockpit views
Major Dan and Chris, You were both correct regarding it being FSX and not PMDG and, as my wife says with great frequency, I was wrong. It took about an hour and a half and a lot of trial and error but all is now squared away and is functioning as before the above noted problems began, The specific key that got all working and brought the missing plus sign (+) back was not SPACE bar as had worked before but rather SHIFT+O. I shall now go eat worms for arguing with the experts. Thanks again for your help!

Problem with frozen virtual cockpit views
"I think you'll get a better response if you ask this in the FSX forums as it seems to be a problem stemming from your joystick and mouse assignments." Chris, that was my original thought and I intend to try that but I've been flying Flight Simulator now for quite a few years and in no other aircraft, freeware or payware have I ever seen the method involved in my original posting using the the (+) sign and the SPACE bar until the PMDG 737 NGX. It was for that reason that felt that it was unique to PMDG and that I posted here first. Major, I had already deleted all button and key assignments in both FSX and FSUIPC prior to posting. Any advice as to how to return this manipulation of views in the PMDG 737 it's original default state might solve the problem but I haven't a clue how to do this. Thanks to you both for the suggestions.

VC view frozen
Originally on my PMDG 737 I could select a VC view from the FSX dropdown VIEWS menu > VC cockpit and then select from a variety of panel views from the 737's cockpit. Once on the selected view I could then move about that view with my pointer and select any button, switch, or control when the pointer turned into the appropriate cupped palm or index finger. I could also use my mouse wheel to move towards or away form the selected panel. If I tapped the SPACE bar a plus ( + ) sign would appear in the center of the screen and using my mouse's trackball I could then move to any part of the cockpit and not be limited only by the boundries of my selected panel's view. At this point all worked perfectly as it had in the past. Yesterday I wanted to program this to my joystick and I programmed various functions to various joystick buttons. That did not work out well because after a shutdown and restart and reloading of the 737 and selecting a virtual cockpit view that view was totally frozen. I could not move the point of view with my mouse's trackball. I could not hit the SPACE bar and move my view point to see almost all parts of the cockpit. I could still move my viewpoint towards or away from the particular selected screen with my mouse wheel but that was about all. As it stands now the airplane is virtually unflyable. With the help of anyone who might be able to, what I would like to accomplish is to return the airplane's view manipulation to it's default state as when I installed it. This state is outlined in the first paragraph above. Any thoughts or help will be most appreciated. Having become totally addicted to this airplane my failure in correcting this may result in my having to open my veins. Thank you in advance, Gentlemen

Problem with frozen virtual cockpit views
For several months now since I first installed my new PMDG 737 all has functioned as expected with few if any problems. That came to a screeching halt about four days ago. Up until that time I had been able to use my Logitech Trackball mouse to move about the various views available in the VC cockpit in the following manner; When in VC COCKPIT, I could use my mouse's Trackball to move my pointer to any place on that screen and when hovering above a button, switch or control the pointer would change to the appropriate finger or cupped palm to activate the button or control beneath it. I could also use my mouse wheel to roll towards or away from the screen. When I wanted to move my point of view in to different area in the same screen I could tap the SPACE bar and a vertical cross, i.e., PLUS sign ( + ) would appear and using the track ball I could now move my pointer to almost any area in the cockpit with out having to go to the VIRTUAL COCKPIT and select a different viewing area from the drop menu The day before yesterday I began to program the buttons on my joystick so as to facilitate the changing of the cockpit views inflight and, when finished, Voila, SNAFU. Almost nothing worked! As before, I could select VIRTUAL cockpit and find myself seated in the VC Captain's seat but that was as far as it went. I could now still select another VC view but only by using the MENU dropdown box; not by a button or key. I could use the pointer to activate a button or switch on the VC view panels selected but could not hit the SPACE bar and have the plus sign and have virtually almost no extended view of the entire cockpit as before. As it stands now my favorite airplane is virtually unflyable....................................HELP PLEASE :( My sincere thanks in advance

[Beta Preview] NGX SP1d
I haven't yet figured out how to use the "MultiQuote", "Quote" and "Selective Quote" but to quote Kyle's post above; "By the way "HGS heads up display" is like saying "ATM automatic teller machine." Until I bought the PMDG 737NGX I had no clue as to what HGS was. I had always heard of it as the HUD, or Head Up Display. Rummaging around in the in the PMDG and Boeing manuals which accompanied my B737 finally squared me away. Now I finally know what an HGS is. It's really a HUD. The ATM analogy I'll still have to work on a bit. The Navy and the Marines still call it a HUD I believe.

Utilizing FSX virtual cockpit views
Until I can get my OpusFSi cameras and my Track IR to "play nice together" I would like to use the views available in FSX. If one right clicks on the view that is on the screen a "fly up" menu appears which offers two basic choices, COCKPIT or VIRTUAL COCKPIT. Under VIRTUAL COCKPIT the following choices are available; >VIRTUAL COCKPIT (Captain's view) >F/O SEAT >OVERHEAD UPPER PANEL >OVERHEAD LOWER PANEL >CENTER PEDESTAL I would like to know if anyone knows of any key assignments available to activate these above five views so that I can use these key assignment via FSUIPC to program them to keys on my joystick. My thanks in advance, Frederick Coleman

IRS failure problem
For those of you who may have perceived that I am not the "sharpest knife in the whole drawer" your perception was correct! After a bit more reading and thinking the IRS problem has now been resolved and a ground check verified where I'd gone wrong. About twenty five years ago before I retired I went through one of my airline's first 747-400 classes prior to flying it on the line. There's an old saying that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" but in this case it was reversed; you can't make a new dog forget old tricks. Somehow my tiny little mind had retained a procedure regarding IRS alignment in the -400 which was almost the opposite in sequence from what it is in 737NGX and using that procedure instead of the PMDG/Boeing approved procedure for the 737NGX. That I could remember the -400 procedure is a minor miracle as I often have trouble remembering my current phone number or where I left the car keys...........it's hell getting old! With the problem now resolved I shall now go back to flying PMDG Tutorial #1 and nursing my ego and crushed begonia back to health. Thanks, gentlemen, for your forbearance.........OVER Frederick Coleman

IRS failure problem
Gentlemen, All of your input has been helpful enough to make me realize that I may have inadvertently stepped on my own begonia and created the IRS problem myself. I now think I know were I went astray and plan to repeat the Tutorial #1 from square one to verify that, with your help, I've found the solution and can make the IRS problem go away. As soon as I have an hour or two I'll repeat the flight and post the results here. I couldn't have done it without you, Fred Coleman

IRS failure problem
Kyle, WILCO on the "real name" and thanks for the prompt reply! I am under the impression that once each of the two IRS lights have cycled through the full sequence of ON DC >ALIGN>blank or no light that then the IRS's are ready to input to the FMS's, CDU's and the ND and PFD's. Is that correct? Should there be a longer yet waiting time prior to showing on the NAV and PFD panels after the IRS lights go out? P.S. Thanks for the "Welcome aboard". It seems to a great forum with a lot of helpful folks! Frederick Coleman

IRS failure problem
I am well into the very well prepared Tutorial #1 for my recently acquired PMDG 737NGX and am ready to fly this first flight but I've encountered a problem which I have, so far, been unable to resolve. Both IRS' complete their normal alignment with all lights indicating correctly for each sequential stage of the alignment process. Each IRS switch is turned from OFF to NAV and each IRS light goes from ON DC to ALIGN and upon completion of the alignment cycle to both lights being blank but a glance below shows the Capts. PFD and ND showing incorrectly I.e., no airport runway or LEGS symbology while the F/O's PFD and ND show the expected runway and purple LEG lines. The fact is that the Capt's ND and PFD are not receiving IRS input and this can be corrected by placing the IRS switch on the DISPLAYS panel on the lower overhead panel to the BOTH ON R position. Now both Captain's and F/O's PDF and ND panels are now indicating the same. But the problem is still not resolved because even though both the Capt. and F/O sides are now indicating same they are now only driven by the right IRS. Since the first Tutorial ends in an AUTOLAND APP which requires two functional IRS's and two functional FMS's for AUTOLAND APP the tutorial cannot be correctly completed.QUESTION: Where did I go astray and how can I correct the problem so as to have the required two functional IRS's and/or FMS systems so as to complete the tutorial? My thanks in advance. Quink 99
