  1. Awesome stuff alpilotx - is great to see this platform continually move forward!
  2. I tried changing the affinity settings on my recently resurrected FS9 box - an old E8400 OC'd to 3.6, 560Ti, 8GB, Win7 64bit. This is only a dual core, but after disabling either core 0 or 1 saw my frames dip on average about 5 fps. This was while sitting at an FSDT airport (so Couatl engine) along with REX weather engine, AI at 80% and AES running. Simply window FS9 and then you can change the affinity settings dynamically to immediately see any impact. FS9 might be a single thread application, but seems addons that run as background apps can take advantage of being moved to other cores if FS9 is allowed to utilize other cores for their processes - in the same manner that FSX/P3D does. On that, a good idea if you are using Affinity settings to only use physical cores, and not any cores with hyperthreading - this avoids stutters due to thread collisions. Same as in FSX/P3D - so use core 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 for hyperthread enabled CPU's. We all know what works for some, might not work as well for others. Just try changing the settings while running FS9 and see what happens with your fps.
  3. Great shot - shows why there are some diehard FS9 users not feeling a need to go anywhere else!
  4. Very nice shots! Have to agree with FloG though - shot #8 on touchdown looks brilliant!
  5. Most likely not. One of PC's still has an e8400 that's OC'd to 3.6 up from stock 3.0 quite easily and that runs nicely. The q9550 starts with a lower clock at 2.8 or thereabouts and doesn't OC as nicely. Maybe try OC'ing your dual core first as I think you'll get a better performance hike. You might also want to consider video card updates. I went from an ATI 4870 to an Nvidia 560Ti and there was a good increase in frames with heavy clouds.
  6. no stutters, and plenty of stick flex - was a good game :clapping:
  7. FlyTampa - Sydney SunSkyJet - Detroit Drzewiecki Design - New York airports and city bundle Wing Creation - Tokyo (Narita)
  8. I had the exact same cooler, and the exact same situation. Luckily was 3 days away from the 3 year warranty expiring, and since built by a major custom PC builder, had the destroyed motherboard and video card replaced. Wasn't until after that I started reading the number of horror stories. Seems this one of the first closed loop coolers, and they all seem to "pop" after an extended time - mine wasn't even working that hard - fans typically around 40% cooling an i7-980x oc to 4.0GHz. I think there's a warning here for anyone with one of these coolers - replace it before it causes all manners of headaches. Danny
  9. Wow! That second set of pictures (especially the 1st and 2nd) look awesome. Will make sure I download tonight - guess he's going out on a high.
  10. Did I hear right that this is Frede's last scenery for X-Plane?
  11. HI Sierra, I've recently resurrected an older machine for FS9 bought off Ebay. Am amazed by how good it is. Have to admit, I hadn't used it before but the fluidity is a real nice change from FSX, but you're right that a certain number of addons are needed to make it look better than straight out of the box. One thing I was really suprised about was the number of FSX addons (scenery especially) I had bought that already included the FS9 versions - so worthwhile looking at what you already have been using to see if it includes something you can already use ... doesn't unfortunately include Orbx, but I'm using FS9 mainly for commercial flights and FSX for GA so not a huge issue. For other scenery addons I have to very highly recommend Flight1's Ground Environment Pro - huge difference to the World. For other visuals I went with REX for FS9 - cheap at simmarket, as well as Zinertek water and Zinertek airport - both make some really good updates to general visuals. The mesh for FS9 is also pretty bad compared to FSX, so some good mesh from someone like FSGenesis is probably a good idea - defines mountains and elevations so much better. I also then went and bought Flight1's Ultimate Terrain for Europe, US and Alaska/Canada - mainly for coastlines, trainlines, roads etc. and the night lighting can be pretty impressive. For aircraft I did the iFly 737 and loved it, along with the QW BAE 146 bundle - as I said FS9 works a treats for commercial haulers so much nicer than FSX. FInally, there's a few tweaks you'll probably want to make to the fs9.cfg - keep it minimal, and just remember that FS9 really only uses the first physical core even more so than FSX, so high clock speeds are going to be the best bet. There is of course a NickN's guide as well, with a summary of tweaks best found here: http://forums.simviation.com//cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1211055375/0#7 Anyway, enjoy the high framerates, the lack of CTD's and OOM's and if you come across anything else you think worthwhile make sure you add it on this list - makes it easier than searching through and trying to read through all those other threads ;o) Danny
  12. Exceptional! These guys are delivering so fine aircraft. Looking forward to trying it when it releases in June. With PMDG still making mention of a soon to be released X-Plane 10 model these guys will continue to set the benchmark.
  13. Just saw that Aero soft are having a 20% sale on PMDG existing products until May 6th. Includes the 737NG and legacy products, boxed and downloads (depending on product). http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=catalog_list&s_group1=00._%20PMDG%20Sale&shopfilter_category=Flight%20Simulation&s_design=DEFAULT&s_language=english&PHPSESSID=nlhbdc44dovg2gcclc4si25p12
  14. Beautiful shots - love that light reflecting of the prop
  15. absolutely superb - you've got a great eye for angles and the life you've brought in to each shot is awesome!
  16. Can imagine tha there might be some additional VR geat that might help with virtual interaction in games. Something like this could become an option: http://www.novint.com/index.php/products/novintxio Can never have enough toys!
  17. Thunderbird 6 ... is that you?
  18. Hey Andras - this is seriously awesome stuff, and who can argue for what you charge for it! I noticed a donations button on your website, so will be giving to show my appreciation properly :Applause:
  19. The timing of this is all a little interesting. We know John recently said he thought the future was going to be all about Prepar3d. Based on the P3D schedule to date of an update every 6 months the next version should be coming up within the next 2 months. With the LM team fairly small you could imagine them not having time to work on the art assets and instead focus on the core tech, so maybe having Orbx working on this really does mean a "FS 2013" is on its way ... but then again I do like a good conspiracy theory as well
  20. That has to be some of Chris' great airport freeware right? Adelaide, YPAD
  21. Hi All - I've asked questions on FlyTampa's website, as well as Aerosoft's in respect to USCities. Might be worthwhile getting engaged with them directly. These forums are great for open comms between users, but to get real change I think direct engagement with the developers is needed - ask the question if they've considered it, and make them realise there actually is a growing user base to make it commercialy viable for them.
  22. The guys over at TruScenery have made available ortho and OSM for Helsinki as freeware - well worth checking it out. Works great with their airports as well - which are spectacular. Anyway, check it out as I think it demonstrates nicely what is being discussed: http://truscenery.wordpress.com/
