  1. Yes, International call rates though - just for a call travelling about 1/3 of a mile! EDIT: Hook beat me to it! The pic is a direct screengrab from Google maps. I cropped the photo at the bottom because it had a huge 'Google Streetview' marking saying "0 Avenue" on it - which slightly gave the game away!
  2. It's a few days in for me with Revolution X, and I must admit I find some of the shine has worn off. In my own area of North East England, there are quite a lot of 'errors' within Revolution X's autogen placement - such as some office blocks in the middle of fields. There are also some areas where agn houses are covering roads or where they're just not aligned too well. In areas of the coverage that I don't know well, I find it pretty convincing but when I am over Newcastle, Durham or Sunderland, then I am a lot less keen - seeing lot's of random buildings covering what I know is the 'real' world down there! I mean, with photographic scenery that's the whole benefit you get isn't it? ....."I can see my house" factor. But now, with Revolution X, my house is covered with some completely unrealistic autogen houses. They're nothing like my house in scale, size or alignment. Am I expecting too much....... > of course  .... there's no way they could model everyones houses lol! ...... but therein lies the problem ; Photographic scenery is supposed to be 'real' and Revolution X makes into 'not real but quite ok looking'. I am considering uninstaling Revolution X and re-installing Treescapes because Treescapes may only add trees, but it still gives an effect of depth and dimension, whilst preserving the accuracy of the actual buidings and homes of the photoscenery.
  3. WINNER! This completely unremarkable looking road is "0 Avenue" .... (that's it's correct name, not "Zero Avenue" but 0 Avenue), South of Langley, British Columbia) The left side of the road as you look at the picture is Canada (British Columbia) and the right side of the road is the USA (Washington). What makes this place interesting is;- Five miles up the road there is a huge Border Crossing, with full controls in place. Thus, crossing in either direction is illegal anywhere on 0 Avenue. So if the guy from the farm on the left of the picture (A Canadian fella) wants to borrow a Wrench Tool from the guy at the roadside farmhouse on the right of the pic (An American fella), he has to, in theory, drive 5 miles West to the Border crossing at Langley, go through customs, then head back along 0 Avenue. I heard about this and just thought it was a fascinating place. Being from an Island nation, we don't really have 'active' borders. Take a look at one of the borders between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK); also two separate sovereign nations:- (Oh it's the speed sign, in case you missed it!). I'm not making any political points here whatsoever by the way, in case anyone takes this wrong, I just thought 0 Avenue was a fascinating place. Especially when this is a few miles down the road :-
  4. Hi, This is just something I came across and thought I'd challenge my fellow virual pilots with. It's not related to aviation, but here we go :- What is special about the location on this otherwise unremarkable looking photo? The first person to guess correctly will win a virtual pint of Newcastle Brown Ale and any freeware add-on of their choice!
  5. Here's all the review of this product that you need. (And as constructive as it's possible to be, having spent money on this) :- Avoid this product at all costs. - Terrible performance (FPS) - A G1000 that is advertised as almost fully functional that is far from it. - An Autopilot system that (just like their last product, the CRJ), is deeply flawed.
  6. Whilst it may still not be for everyone, and probably not for you Chris, I'd still say that the effect of Revolution X w/ Horizon X within the sim is far better than any screenshots I've seen of it so far. It's the same with the Horizon X scenery itself; their own screenshots are pants!! ..... low resolution, poor AA, it amazes me they sold any units at all, with the screenshots that appear on the installer loading page. However, in sim, with a high monitor resolution and good quality AA (for me nothing beats ATI Supersampling for Photoscenery), it's like a totally different product to that shown on the screenshots. But like everything, it's probably not for everyone, as we all have different priorities, preferences and benchmarks.
  7. For checking out Orbx NorCal, you guys should definitely consider the IRIS Jabiru J160  https://www.irissimulations.com.au/hangar/flight-simulator-planes/fsxp3d-aviator-series-jabiru-j-160 Or failing that, Ant's Airplanes P92 Eaglet is doing a fantastic job of giving me fantastic views. (Although the best views I've enjoyed of Orbx NorCal so far has been in Ant's Drifter - as long as I've got time for cruising at 60kts! ..... If I want to go "fast" (lol!) it has to be the 100kts P92 or J160).
  8. I've just bought it today too. Installation was a breeze, and the product includes a GUI where you simply specify which Photoscenery products you own (Just Flight Real Scenery, Horizon X, Tile Proxy, etc) and after selecting those it just took care of everything. I've only had a quick 10 min flight from my local airport but so far I am VERY impressed!
  9. No crashes for me but somehow I never get crashes! Are you using FSUIPC because I though it resolved G2D.dll crashes but I might be getting completely mixed up on that.
  10. Jeez, if they seriously blocked your account over there, purely for asking a very fair question in this thread, something's seriously wrong.... <_<
  11. Hi Lee, that is the one that I mentioned in the OP that I'd tried. But I found it quite hard work to manouvre the map and use on my Samsung. I'm just trying VAT-Track now and it seems a lot better. Easier to look around the map and hey, I saw my aircraft on there, over at Lampson (1O2) in Norcal! It would be good to also see where controllers were on (which VAT-Track doesn't seem to show; just aircraft), but perhaps I am expecting too much for a free Android app.
  12. It was a sober one, Dan, so I'm just about recovering from being sober around lot's of 'merry' people lol! Yes, FS Global is an essential. I've been using it for years, and it's improved through every iteration. FSXGV does look good, and having global coastline improvements would be worth the price of admission alone. But as I mainly fly in Europe or the US (and have both covered by UTX too), it's a difficult choice.
  13. Apologies for giving the OP a hard time over the use of "prolly" on the last page. It's just one of those pet peeves of mins, along with "Could care less" (which should be "Couldn't care less"), and a few other pedantic, written-word, neuroses. Being half way though an English Language & Literature degree makes a man into a monster of written-form millitancy! I hope the OP gets to sort out his woes, and that he's wrong and that FS is not dead (which we all know is not the case ). Still think the best route is to use Win 7 64 bit with FSX though!
  14. Hi Dan, I'm in the same position - pondering whether to buy Vector yet (as a keen FTX Global user). What I've heard so far is that v1.0 of vector requires you to have a global add-on mesh (like FS Global), otherwords all of your field elevations will be wrong. This might influence your decision to go with v1.0 or not. I do use FS Global, but still think I will probably wait until v1.1 of FTXGV is released, just to know it's been tidied up.
  15. Cool, thanks, I'll check that out!
  16. Hi all, I decided to try flying on-line (VATSIM) yesterday for the first time in 5 years. .... Just GA VFR around Orbx NorCal, but I had some interaction with Oakland CTR and it was fun. I'm currently "mic-less" though and it's definitely not as immersive typing into sqawkbox, so going to have to pick up a new headset w/mic. Anyway, while flying I wanted to "view myself" on VATSIM but as I always fly full screen and didn't want to ruin the immersion by opening a VATSIM viewer on my desktop, I decided to try a VATSIM Viewing Android Map. Anyway I used VMM but to be honest, found it's map viewer very clunky, and hard to focus in on small areas of the global map. Has anyone got any good recommendations for the best VATSIM Viewing app for Android?
  17. As a short term, quick and dirty fix, flying with more fuel may help reduce of eliminate the bounce.
  18. Amazing shots! ... It's funny that, despite owning virtually all Orbx payware PNW/CRM/NRM airports, Bowerman is my all out out favourite.
  19. Definitely the Aerosoft Katana 4X or Digital Aviation Do-27 are what you want. The Katana 4X is much newer and has maintenance aspects that are at the same level as Accusim.
  20. Honestly, not at all. No hunting or surging. Due to the careful frequency filtering, it's the smoothest '6 cylinder' sound Ive heard in FS.
  21. I agree Frank. I'm a little astonished that, considering what was highlighted here (the inappropriate use of another company's copyrighted logo despite no collaboration or use of that company's product), they still haven't hastily removed the Reality 'XP' logo from their GNS 530 yet. Perhaps the fact that Reality XP don't seem to operate any more is causing FlySimWare not to worry much about the error. But RXP still sell products so presumably they still exist as a business entity. My concern, as I said earlier, is not to provoke a smallscale corporate war between Reality XP and FlySimWare ( ), but that I feel it is wrong that would-be purchasers of this 402C are being misled into thinking that the product is compatible with RXP 530 in the VC, due to seeing the 'XP' logo...... when it is not.
  22. Coolsky (Flight 1) DC-9 is in a different league to the Captain Sim L1011. It's a fully fledged advanced simulation, with a full training and familiarization deck. It has beautiful flight handling characteristics, sound, immersion (although I am not 100% in love with the VC by McPhat). The Captain Sim is the usual Captain Sim; certainly not all bad, and one of their better releases. But still it just brushes the edges of a real L1011 simulation, compared to the Coolsky DC-9. This is partially but not entirely true. The basic AP functions do utilize the default FSX AP and thus are tied in with FD. However the AP also contains additional custom features, that aren't part of the default FSX AP, for example a functional IAS (pitch) mode.
