The Earth's digital twin
Superdelphinus replied to Dominique_K's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Ever? That must be useful... -
Views from outside echo chambers are generally useful, but they have to be assessed along with everything else. I don’t really consider myself to be a raging msfs zealot but this article throws up all the normal sorts of red flags. Very little to no factual information, extreme views designed to grab attention, potential biases to competitors and not from a reputable source. Safe to dismiss, as is 95% of everything on Facebook. Will be interesting to see some considered, constructive criticism of the game when possible, but this certainly isn’t it.

April 23rd, 2020 Development Update
Superdelphinus replied to ca_metal's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Maybe it, but there are examples of games where it is (the project cars series, and sim city to name a few) -

April 23rd, 2020 Development Update

These days quite a few games have depth of field effects built in, in real-time, which is probably what’s going on here. -

It’s a very common feature in many games, and most of them do as you describe (and the better ones include basic photography controls too) - doesn’t seem to be the case here though. -

It’s mad. If you just photoshopped in a bit of a slight grain filter and something to slightly randomise and wash out the colour shades a bit I reckon most people would think this is a photo - it’s 90% there already. I hadn’t noticed the trees, but they just look real here. -
Most of us won’t know for sure. If I had to bet I’d put millions of pounds on the ‘Ideal’ gpu having a much bigger overall impact than the cpu.
-
I think the main limiting factor will still be the GPU, followed by internet bandwidth. CPU will be more of a factor than other types of games, but not as much as the GPU.
-
It’s quite a sensible thought I think. It’s at least worth waiting to see what the experience looks like on the system, and consoles have a habit of producing performance that’s much higher than the sum of its parts. The main problem I think though is we have no idea how long it will be until an Xbox version actually arrives.

Coronavirus could delay MSFS
Superdelphinus replied to cepact's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Yeah I’d be amazed if it wasn’t delayed at this point, but really who cares in the grand scheme of things. -

The comparison is fair, just interpretation differs. The argument that small volume = high price is as old as time itself (or at least since the British empire invented capitalism), but buyers are basically paying more to subsidise the developer. Nothing wrong with that if the market is prepared to support it though, but it isn’t a golden rule that has to exist. -
AI aircraft realistic assignments
Superdelphinus replied to EKRA01's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
Fair enough. Just seems like admin to me though, in the context of all the other amazing things you can do in a flight simulator. Like buying iracing and worrying about whether the motorhomes are in the right parking spaces in the paddock at spa. -

Never really got why people care about this sort of thing, but to each their own. -

I’m presuming the “unforeseen travel issues” were something to do with coronavirus. I wonder whether it will cause any delay to the game long-term. -
Microsoft Unveils New XBOX Specs
Superdelphinus replied to Groovy_Kincaid's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
They’re going beastly with this thing. I think I’ll have a relatively difficult decision to make later on this year in terms of whether to buy one of these, or a new top(ish) end GPU. Or just get both... -
FS2020 Information you "may"not be aware of.
Superdelphinus replied to martin-w's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
I think it will be £40-60 to buy, or included in the game pass subscription (haven’t they basically confirmed all of this other than the actual price anyway?). I guess the price will be symptomatic of how they see and market the game - if it’s a ‘game’ then I think it will cost in the region of what I wrote above, if it’s a ‘platform’ then it may be a bit more.
