  1. Something is not right.. I am running a RTX3070 at 1440p with settings all at least Ultra. Some (such as LOD) are a bit higher than Ultra. DX11 and TAA . 45 to 55 FPS most of the time. Stutters are rare. The rest of the system is a 9900K and 32GB RAM. My bottleneck is the 9900K. With a better CPU I would be looking at better than 60 FPS at 1440 P from the 3070.
  2. I spend thousands of dollars a year maintaining a semi-vintage motorcycle and will happily admit it is just a toy. I have a friend who spends a similar amount of money on golf. Golf is definitely a game. Let's not even talk about model trains where just one scale live steam locomotive can cost $US10,000 . Spending money does not make something a simulation.
  3. There is a line of thought that stutters in MSFS can often be from a mismatch between GPU and CPU. Basically if one is too far behind the other one. the good one sort of goes to sleep and then needs to wake up again when it eventually gets a chance to do something. No idea if there is anything to this theory. According to this line of thought, the way to reduce this problem, if you have it, on your particular setup is substantially increase any settings that load up your GPU and wind back all settings that load your CPU to try to get them in a better "balance" in terms of load.
  4. Super Brief History of Meigs ... Meigs Field was much loved by Flight Simmers but a total pain for local Real Estate Developers who wanted to gentrify the derelict industrial/docks area along the nearby shoreline, as trendy wealthy people only want to live near an airport if they own it personally. The Mayor of Chicago agreed with the disgruntled developers and shutdown the airport. However there were immediate appeals and a State Court ordered it re-opened. Chicago then agreed to keep Meigs open as part of some state/federal funding deal However when a glitch occurred in the funding negotiations the Mayor immediately ordered it secretly closed. The work was done during the night and runway destroyed in a way that made it unviable to repair. This was to prevent any future court case ordering it reopened. Closing an FAA runway permanently, without any advance notice or going through the proper procedures, was illegal and Chicago were fined tens of thousands of dollars, However the Mayor was well aware this would happen and had decided beforehand that they would just cop any fine imposed. Paying a fine would be would be worth it to get rid of Meigs permanently and hence allow the upmarket gentrification of the shoreline to go ahead.
  5. You basically will get quite good performance at 1080p and acceptable performance (after dropping a few settings) at higher resolutions --- but forget VR, you are not even in the ball park for good VR .
  6. My personal options at home are 25/50/100/250/1Gb (at work we are on a 10Gb ATM). 1Gb is prohibitively expensive in my area and 25Mb is stupidly slow. So basically the practical choices were 50/100/250Mb . I had been using the 250Mb plan, which was excellent for MSFS, but decided to drop to 100Mb as it was hard to justify the extra cost. For me 100Mb seems fine, yes 250Mb was better for MSFS but not $50 a month better. I can basically buy a full priced 3PD addon every month with what I save and the MSFS performance drop is not a game killer. Meanwhile the savings from dropping to 50Mb from 100Mb are minimal ($10 or so) so I think I will be sticking with 100Mb unless the 250mb tier drops in price substantially.
  7. Pilot controlled lighting would go at least some of the way towards reducing the "Disney Fairy Land look of night flights. MSFS exists in an alternate world were every tree is a Californian Redwood and every goat track, even in the middle of the Gobi Desert, is festooned with street lamps as far as the eye can see,
  8. There is a built in feature that lets you jump ahead to a waypoint but last I checked you emerge at the way point with AP etc all turned off.
  9. You can always flip down the modern GPS and dock the CRT green screen if you prefer a more modern take. You are currently stuck with WWII surplus Olive Drab for the cockpit though.

  12. I think the big issue is it is a bush plane so a niche market.
  13. The Wilga is currently on special for Easter. https://www.got-friends.com/products/pzl-104-wilga-35-80-series Amazing little thing - here is a random video I just made earlier -
  14. Also for the same glideslope: faster approach speed = higher descent rate in fpm
  15. The main criticism of Carenado has been they have had a tendency to have a "generic" easy to fly FM which was very similar across models and did not really implement any of the known vices of the real aircraft, Aside from being generic, they had few other faults, tail dragger ground handling being the only big complaint. Hence you got comments in reviews along the lines of "it flies like a Carenado" meaning it matches the book numbers but otherwise flies like all the other Carenados. Carenado had the reputation for nice looking aircraft that had no vices and were easy to fly for beginners, all at a good price. BUT a bit generic in the FM department. (an example of a non-generic FM is the Wilga, it is very individual in the way it flies and handles) This generic FM to some extent has HELPED Carenado, as an awful lot of complaints about other addons stem from people expecting everything to fly like a training aircraft, vis-à-vis a faster/slower 152/172, and immediately blame the aircraft if they cannot just jump in and fly. With Carenado you pretty much could just jump in and fly. More recent Carenado aircraft are substantially better in this, regard, they do feel different, and recent updates to things like the c195 have also made improvements in the "individual feel" area for older aircaft as well. If that trend continues you can expect the overall attitude to Carenado as being generic pretty beginners aircraft to start to change.
  16. The checklist start-up procedures work perfectly fine for me. I do not have a Honeycomb though.
  17. You have always had to turn off the AP as part of your shutting down with JF PA28 or weird things happen next flight. I do not think that has changed.
  18. Released now. https://bigradials.com/products/big-radials-the-norseman
  19. I misinterpreted the title. I thought they were adding a feature that let you pack up the aircraft and put it in a trailer.
  20. I was getting continual CTDs until I swapped back to TAA and DX 11. Just saying.
  21. I am happy enough with my 9900K mini toaster oven from way back when. Sure the current 12th gen i5 laptop processor in our work laptops is faster but my ancient i9 does the job for me.
  22. I am sitting on updating, as a policy I never install the first new update for any product I wait till the fixes come out first. It is interesting that this "new avionics locking up the controls bug" only occurs for a few people. i wonder if it only causes issues with certain specific hardware setups.
  23. Not just the size. it also rotates into portrait mode and the curve is variable, you can flatten it out or curve it more to suit yourself. More to the point, the price tag would come close to paying for a 4090 / Varjo Aero or Pimax VR setup.
  24. To be honest I think the Samsung Odyssey Arc 55" might be a bit of overkill anyway.
