  1. So I was doing a flight from KSAT to KPHX and the flight plan took me over El Paso in Texas. And what I noticed with GEX World P3D and UTX 2.0 USA installed is just how absolutely dreadful Mexico looked as I was flying near the border. There was absolutely NOTHING south of the border. All the detailed Vector and Landclass data just ceased to be. Now obviously I know that is going to happen since everything south of the border is just default P3D/FSX scenery and is not being handled by GEX or UTX other than GEX providing textures for the Landclass data. My question is this. As I own GEX World P3D (I own FTX Global also. Not using currently) which does all the texture and night lighting for the world, I know the TEXTURES of Mexico, Baja California and South America as well as all the tropics should be taken care of. What I want to know is are there any landclass products out there that can make central and south America come alive? I saw Cloud9 has their XClass series but without ANY screen shots or any videos to make a judgement I am reluctant to even spend the 10 bucks to find out. SceneryTech seems to be another Landclass solution but they handle Central America in their United States product and I am afraid this will damage all the awesome work UTX 2.0 USA does on their citytech engine and their own coastal and port city landclass as well as rivers, steams and lakes data. Is there anything else out there that can make those regions not look like they were constructed for a 2006 flight simulator? Now Flight1 has UTX Tropical America and Caribbean but I am afraid of it as does not list P3D specifically as being compatible. It does appear in the GEX World P3D interface a plug-in module so maybe it works without problem? Here's the break down: Top Layer - UTX 2.0 USA - Vector Product covering USA. If I want better Vector I need a Vector product for Central and South America. Doesn't appear to be much out there. UTX Tropical seems to cover Mexico, Central America and the Caribbeans now that I am looking. This feels like the best solution as it should plug in with the Gex World Interface. Middle Layer - ????? - Landclass Data. UTX 2.0 USA seems to provided updated Landclass data for the US only, obviously. We need a product for Central and South America here that can make cities appears where they belong, forests where they belong and make mountains look like mountains. This is the goal of this post. UTX Tropical America and Caribbean would take care of this problem? Bottom Layer - GEX World P3D - Terrain Texture. GEX World P3D is handling all texture processing like a good $130 program should.
  2. Hey folks, I just noticed a problem flying around one of my airports today, 4N1 Green Lake in northern NJ: I modeled this airport a while ago and you can see in the first gallery shots that the water textures were fine back then. Here's what I've done to try and resolve this so far: I disabled all my custom scenery layers to revert the terrain back to default. This worked, so I went back and started re-enabling bit by bit. I found that the only thing that seemed to make a difference was whether MegaSceneryEarth was enabled or not as you can see in this screenshot. The removal of no other layers (like UTX) had an effect I re-installed all REX water textures. No effect. I re-installed all GEX textures. No effect I deleted all entries in my terrain.cfg file following the autogen entries to reset it to default as I had tweaked it a little while back (adjusting the index count accordingly). No effect I uninstalled and re-installed these MSE tile areas. No effect. I noticed these textures looked fall-ish so I tried changing seasons (even though I'm currently still in Summer). No effect (cept the textures themselves changed seasons, lol) So at this point I am stumped and looking for advice. So far the only thing that seems to make a difference is disabling the MSE tile layers that affect this region of scenery, and I have not yet come up with a reason as to why this is. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! Thanks in advance :) P.S. - I'm not emtrely sure I reverted my terrain.cfg file back to default so if anyone has a clean copy can you email it to me? EDITED
  3. In the beginning days testing my computer with FSX, I got so bad performance that I decided to spend some money into the new hardwares (new CPU and VGA). However with the help from a friend I got to know about tweaking the fsx.cfg and wow, it DOES boost the performance that I managed to run quite smooth PMDG 777/Aerosoft Airbus with some detailed airports. Of course settings only at dense and normal. Now I'm thinking about not buying new computer parts and use those money into some scenery addons. After days of reading topics and googling, I'm going for Fsglobal Ultimate and FTX Global. From what I've read these 2 shouldn't impact my fps much? So I'm done for mesh and ground texture. How about FTX Vector vs UTX? Topics dicussion between these 2 mainly from last 1 or 2 years in the early stage of Vector so there are many bugs, don't know about how is it now. Just thinking that because I use FTXglobal, using Vector should work better? No price talking here of course Vector is much cheaper comparing to all UTX packages. Last thing I want to ask is the X series of cities from Aerosoft, Aerosoft Manhatan X. What are the differences between these and the FTX Vector/UTX? Do all of them work well together and harm significantly the performance? I'm the kind of person that despite flying 99% IFR high altitude, I can sit for hours on the computer looking at the ground when crusing, let autoland do its job and panning around in spot view looking at the city below... Thanks for helping me and sorry for my bad English BTW, my specs i5 3570k@4Ghz, 8GB ram, Nvidia GTS450 (yeah, I know, horrible). With those new addons I think I should get 750Ti or 660Ti, should help me load the texture better. Buy 2nd also save some more money into the addons.
  4. Hey, I recently bought UTX US 2.1 and I am very fascinated by this product. I am even planning to purchase GEX P3D. The issue remains is that those products for the time being have UTX Europe and Canada is in works. What about rest of the world? Default LC is boring and have repetitive textures in P3D. I looked into SceneryTech LC - their website hasn't been updated in years, is that product even supported or updated? Heck last news is from 2009 on their site. What is up with that? I don't think they have P3Dv2 installers Orbx Vector wins for having world wide Vector but it is damn VAS hog for the time being. Thanks
  5. First off, this is my first post and I'm a total newbie to simming, so apologizes in advance. Just bought FSX a couple of weeks ago and barely know how to fly -- but that's improving. There are many scenery options, but it seems like there's a consensus and it basically comes down to two formats/systems: Ultimate Terrain X + Ground Environment X vs. FTX Global + FTX Vector + a landclass layer. Ok, so maybe there are other viable options out there, but these are the two I've narrowed it down to. And I know you can mix & match to some extent, but it seems like it makes more sense to stick with one since there will be fewer possible incompatibilities. Anyway, here are my questions: 1) Lots of people say that the Orbx FTX combo looks the best, especially if you add a landclass layer (which they currently are working on apparently). Will this supposedly better looking suite of programs be harder to run on my machine? Basically does it come at a cost of FPM? 2) If I do go the FTX route, will what landclass layer should I buy? Until they put out their openLC, it looks like basically my options areSceneryTech and Cloud9 XClass. 3) Either way how much of an impact will getting terrain mesh (probably FS Global 2010) impact the visual experience. There's only so much I can afford right now and I'm not sure if this is something that should just wait. Fyi, couple of things to consider your advice: I fly mostly in North America, but I think that will change once I start to get more into it; I'm a bit more inclined to prop planes at lower altitudes, but again that might change as well; my computer isn't quite a potato, but it's not a marvel of technology at all (AMD A10-5700 @ 3.5 GHz, 8 GB / Radeon R7-260x, 2 GB, DDR5 / Win 8, x64bit). Thanks so much for whatever input you can offer. Like I said, I'm a newbie and am completely overwhelmed by all the many options -- and all the money that I could easily spend.
  6. So I downloaded the KDAL v1.15b add on scenery from Doug Adkins and when taking off on 31L or 31R the game pauses for about 1-2 seconds then resumes. If I take off from the opposite direction, this freeze does not happen. Now, I thought I had uninstalled it but now that pause is there regardless of whether the scenery is installed or uninstalled, which is annoying. So I was pouring over the manual to see if I had screwed up somewhere but couldn't see that I did anything wrong. I can't find any files left over after uninstall. It came with it's own installer which I used to install and I used it's uninstaller also to remove it but it has done something to some file somewhere that has stayed behind. The only thing I can think of why it is pausing like this is because of one little piece of text in the ReadMe file. "Also added, Landclass area around the lake." I use ORBX FTX Global and REX Essentials for textures and landclass. There is in fact a small lake at the end of 31L/31R. And when I get close to it on take off and start to rise into the air, that is when the simulation pauses for those annoying 2 seconds. When it comes back to life, the lake flickers and all the textures around it from ORBX turn black for a a second then restore themselves. It is my opinion, that this KDAL installer has done something to a file somewhere that is beyond the scope of just adding some BGL files to the Addon Scenery folder and whatever it has added, it is leaving it behind after uninstall and screwing up that end of the runway. I know NOTHING about making scenery or even what a landclass is. I just know ORBX uses them and this KDAL add-on used one for the region around the lake and it is around the lake that this freeze is occurring now. To you scenery gurus out there, what can I do remove this freeze and restore the landclass to the default? Does what I describe above sound like ORBX FTX Global and the KDAL scenery are colliding over this lake area? I really want to use this airport add-on as it makes KDAL come to life over the standard FSX version of the airport but I need to eliminate this freeze being caused at that end of the airport. Any ideas or suggestions of where to look and what to look for? KDAL is my home airport and I fly out of all the time for Southwest Virtual and this freeze is killing me. Any help would be appreciated.
