March 22, 200422 yr Commercial Member Robert->well, are you sure you can handle the resulting server load>this time? Everbody wants to buy (and download) within this 14>days which will certainly lead to a lot of complaining>customers and not very friendly replys by some>individuals......It is well known that our distribution server went to it knees during the initial 737 release and again during the SU2 re-distribution. During those periods we were quite open about the fact that the server was significantly under-performing, and we had quite a few "apparent experts" explaining to us what we could/should be doing to improve the situation. When we resolved the problem during the SU2 release- we very quietly posted that the situation was resolved and the server began shipping data at rates exceeding 400MB/second.Many of the "apparent experts" were then so busy flying the airplane that they apparently didn't realize their own exhortations of doom were completely inaccurate. So yes, "some individuals" (that would be me and Lefteris, for those wondering) posted some replies that hurt a few people's feelings... We reserve that right in cases where someone wants to take us to task without having the faintest idea what the facts are. ;-)>Don't want to start a bad discussion here, but the trouble>ahead is obvious :-(I'm certain you don't wish to start a bad discussion- but "the trouble ahead" is not obvious. The server has been used for major product release since we implemented the data transfer fixes that were needed, and on release day of the B1900D, it shipped 1.5x the data that it shipped for release day on the 737NG. At that data transfer rate the server operated at approximately 29% of it's capacity....While I'm at it- I'll point out another fact that posts like this one don't often give us credit for: PMDG has not yet left you folks in the lurch. If there are problems- we always find a way to make good on them.I don't expect that will change. ;-) Robert S. March 22, 200422 yr After reading the list of the stuff going into the 800/900, it is safe to assume that I will be deleting every other airplane off my HD. After flying something so advanced for FS like the 800/900, flying anything else would be a major step backwards. Damn you guys are good!!EDIT: Now I need to find Gary Hayes and convince him to slap on a fictional livery on the 800 and 900 of Jetblue. Eric
March 22, 200422 yr Paul,ACARS = Aircraft Communications And Reporting SystemAFIS = Airborne Flight Information SystemIt's basically a text message data link system. Used to help the flying crew with sending various tasks to the company's dispatch desk. i.e rerouting in case of bad weather, rebooking of passengers with connecting flights. The system also sends information about the flight as wheels-up time, off-block time etc, etc, to the company's dispatch office for evaluation and follow-up. You can read a pretty good explanation of it here: www.sasflightops.com , choose Datalink in the menu to the left. There you also have a description on how SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) are using it's datalink system to suit their needs. March 22, 200422 yr With respect to the cockpit styles for each airline, will you guys have it preset for the real world cockpit style chosen by each particular airline. I ask since I'm intereted in keeping things as realistic as possible. If not, does anyone know where to find information on which airline opted for which cockpit style? It's looking great! Take your timeLuisKMIA
March 22, 200422 yr Luis,Currently, the selection is by specific airline. You can also customize as well. These are new additions to the PMDG Styles menu.I will try to post a screen shot later tonight(0100Z). George Morris

March 22, 200422 yr Hi, Forgive me if I sound stupid, but is this just for showing the pages (i.e. simulating the ACARS), or can the data be sent anywhere?Just hoping ;-)BoazEKCH

March 22, 200422 yr On the list of FMC improvements/additions, I did not see anything mentioned about:1> The ability to program best speed on the Hold screen2> Allowing for step climbs3> Any additions to handle engine out functionalityWill these items be handled in the upgrade? Also, will the FMC allow for any new syntax commands for programming DEP/APPR text files? Thanks,Bruce NicholsonKMFR
