FSX + BP=0 + nVidia GTX 480

Featured Replies

Old tweaks are simply, OLD.BP=0 is simply a revelation. I don't know how I flew without it. Now that I think of it, I wasn't really enjoying what I had.To be able to fly in NYC with bad weather, at night, with lots of traffic, rain, and very dense AG with silky smooth flying is just amazing. Before, BP=0, new tweaks, and the new nvidia 197.45 driver, FSX was a slide show in the example above.I don't even see shimmering scenery anymore. I've never seen such sharp textures and beautiful colors. I have never seen an overcast layer in FSX. Now I do!For anyone who ever wanted to fly in and out of clouds, in the mountains, with bad weather and with the speed of an L-39, simply try using the guide and latest drivers. You will be amazed. I sound like Mitch. :(
What "guide" did you use?

This guide:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=281538Please note that my specs are not typical.i7 975 @ 4 with 12 gigs of ram and a gtx 285Also, at first BP=0 did not work well, but as I started trying different settings and drivers, I found the settings and drivers that worked.A gtx 480 or 485 with 2 gig will put me over the top.I'm still delighted!

Alrighty then.Thailand never got the 285, so I was stuck with the 5870 or Nv 250. The 5870 works great, but stutters a hell of a lot around autogen, ai and has the annoying vsync issues that make playing with TrackIR no fun. I also have to tune down clouds to mid settings.I'll keep my eye on this thread until the 480 comes to town, hopefully, sometime next week. Probably still keep the 5870 just so I can run extra monitors for panels or a future rig in wideview.

Justin, have you tried [bufferPools] UsePools=0 with your 5870?

The 5870 is a great card. Unfortunately, IQ suffered and vsync were inop when I tried it with my win 7 64 system.I think that the vsync issue was fixed, but I'm simply spoiled by nhancer ability to render AA. Can't live without it.

[bufferPools] set to 0Sure has made my hd 4870 a lot better with FSX very little blurries smooth frame rates. It pretty much made FSX what I always hoped it would be.I'm still not sure what is the best affinity setting on the old four core cpus though.BP=0 has been the best tweak every for my setup. Thanks :(

It's 14. try it, you should see an improvement.

I'd like to see the GTX 480 compared to the GTX 285 when running at 1920x1080 through 2560x1600 with 8x FSAA and 16xAF with all sliders to the right. Since FSX is CPU limited, oc'ing the testing processor to 3.6 - 4.0ghz should open up the bottleneck a little. A card like the GTX 480, I imagine, really starts to shine at higher resolutions and higher levels of FSAA with a really fast processor. My GTX 285 is still going pretty strong, unfortunately, in many other games and at my resolution it just doesn't hack it any longer.

Good topicwhat different between BP= 0 and [bufferPools]UsePools=0 For me BP=0 give a little change but usepools = 0 that not believe this is my system ever great FPS and stabilityand last what is IQ sir ? It is refer to Image Quality ?Thanks

Hi Djjose, mind sharing your settings ?ThanksVic

*******,Great find! We all thank you for the amount of work put in to make FSX better. I listened to PTaylor's advice since his group wrote the code. I listened to NickN's setup advice since it worked on my computer (Dell 720 H2C). I listen to people who explain what they did, how they did it, and what effects it had. You explained everything very well and backed it up with testing. I tried your settings and wanted to give you some feedback.I have sliders full right except Water-2xLow, Traffic-80/40/40, LOD-6.5, FSLimiter-30, DX9, No Bloom/shadows. ATI4890 CCC AA-4X, AF-16X, VS-On.My old rig had 2x8800GTX that would spike and stutter when set to unlimited, with any driver >169.25. I thought it was a driver issue, but my ATI4890 had the same problem. FSLimiter solved that problem on both computers. Cloudfix solved my flashing clouds.Flew East from LV across the lake and up the river thru the Grand Canyon. Smooth as silk FPS 30.I have a P-8 saved flight where I takeoff on 04 at LGA, turn left down the river (Sulley), go 20 miles, and turn left to shoot a ILS back to 04. I was getting 17 fps and micro stutters. With your settings I get 27-30 and smooth. With LOD 6.5 the AG popping is reduced.Another MAAM R-4D flight from Ecity to ILS on 04 at ORF in heavy weather was 30 before. It is still 30 and the haze looks more dense, and more real depth. Still smooth. Thanks againDaveIntel Core I7 975 Quadcore OC @ 3.6GhzAsus P6T DLX V2 X58 1366, BD Combo Plextor B310SA6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3 1866C7GTHIS ATI 4890 1GB, Samsung 24", Saitek X-52 ProLogitech Z680 5.1 Speakers, G15 Keyboard, G5 MouseThermaltake Element S Case, Corsair 850HX PSUC: Intel 80GB SSD w/Windows 7 Home 64D: WD 300GB Velocity Raptor w/FSX+Accel+GEX, F4AFE: WD 1TB Caviar Black w/Data SH4

You like to use BP=0 but currently have instalability problems? You like to run the sim with the frames locked between 25-35 FPS either inside the sim or using an external frame limiter? You like to run MAX sliders (specially autogen)If you answered YES to the above, then the GTX 480 is right for you... a GTX 480 is just like a GTX 285, but with the ability to run max autogen + IQ + BP=0 without any instability. FPS wise, is about the same as the GTX 285.
Let's not forget too add every now and then that you also need a good CPU to go with the GTX480! I see HyperionXL does have a nice CPU but it may be possible that people with older hardware might read this topic and get the impression a GTX480 is ALL you need to get FSX 'flying'...! :(

The CPU is still the most important hardware. But, as it has been demonstrated, the card, the drivers and the tweaks make the difference.I'm one of those people who believe that the GPU/Video card is just as important as the CPU. Without question OS makes a difference too. That's why it depends on your system. Tweak away and test. That's the only way to find the sweet spot. Here are my settings:NHANCER: 8xs, Gamma, 16AF, Vsync on, Teexture HQ, LOD Clamped, HDR On, CPU Multi OnFSX: Everything is on High, including water at high 2, but AD is dense to very dense - depending on scenery. AI 50%, Cars 15%

I have, but I still get huge drops in fps around autogen and bad weather. I'm just like you. I want max everything on fsx. If the 480 puts me in the right direction to getting there then I don't mind dropping the cash. Plus I like buying new shiny stuff. Gets me away from my cockpit. Lol

Justin, have you tried [bufferPools] UsePools=0 with your 5870?

my rig is struggling in clouds, 10fps in the virtual cockpit of the PMDG 747X. Really annoying. I wonder if I need a higher texture band multi. I think I set it to 80 or 120. I am using nicks settings for nhancer with the latest drivers for my 285gtx
