The LDS767: Old but still a winner

Featured Replies

It's been some time since I took the LDS767 out of the hangar, and even then, I only took her out for a test ride to look at the performance of Aerosoft's EHAM scenery. But boy, is this a great plane. Every time I fly her I keep reminding myself that I ought to fly her more often - she is simply so good!I have often been wondering what's so good about this plane. The model is good, but you can see it's old. The lack of detail is what gives it away. The same thing can be said for the VC: While not bad, it's not anywhere near the quality of stuff that gets onto the market right now. The systems are good, though, and no addon will that easily take that away from her. Still, it's none of these things that make me feel so nice when flying the LDS767. I'm not sure, but I think it's the FDE. Something about the FDE has been done so well... It's simply such a nice plane to hand-fly. I don't know, but I feel as though it's a very relaxing plane to fly, and the LDS767 is best of all 767s I have flown in FS, including the CS767. What's the difference? I have no idea. The LDS767 simply flies so nice...I guess I want to say I adore the LDS767. It'd be nice if some update would bring her onto the same level as more recent aircraft releases, but you know what? She doesn't really need it, like a dear old grandma doesn't really need a facelift to make her nice again.

HelloI totally agree its a great Addon, I love the fact that it supports all of my Goflight modules out of the box. With Andre Folkers great VC texture upgrade I thing it still looks great.

Where can one get this update?? i cant seem to figure out the lds forums, when i try and log onto the registered users forum it always kicks me back to the original screen and in red it says you must be a registered user. Has anyone run into this trying to access the registerd section of the forums??P.S And yes i have legally purchased this program from flight one and have all info such as my order number, certificate number and lic key for it.P.S.S and yes I agree 110% this plane is exceptional, one i always return to, ALWAYS :(

I agree with you one hundred percent. I don't fly it every time I get on FS but it's always near the top of my list - it just never loses its appeal. Everything about it is just "comfortable" as you said. But like the person above, I do not know about any VC enhancements. The only "enhancement" I use is the additional gauge that gives you a readout of ZFW and GWT. (Very helpful!) I tried a mod that was posted on AVSIM to convert the EADI and EHSI into "pop up" gauges, but I couldn't get that to work. If you could post how to get hold of the VC upgrade, that would be great. It's not that I am unhappy with it as it is, but if it can be improved, then I'm all for it.I would also be very grateful if you could point me in the direction of learning how to use my GoFlight modules with LVLD as my experience is the opposite of yours. I don't have the MCP but have two GF45's that I use as a surrogate AP and avionics, an RP48 and a GF-T8, both set up for various switches but all work with default keys only. I have no idea how to set it up for LVLD and that has been a major "downer" for me as I hate using the mouse when I can fly using GF for many of my other addons that do not use proprietary coding for AP commands etc.I have signed up for so many product forums that I truly don't remember if I've tried the LevelD one or not but if you can point me in the right direction, I would be really gratefulThanks

Benjamin I would have to agree. I probably fly the LDS 767 more than any other addon that I have ever purchased. It's one plane that never lets you down with problems or things that need to be patched. Until the NGX comes out, it will remain my airliner of choice.

I share everyone's thoughts. It's all I fly right now (although NGX will endanger this). It just feels great to hand fly and I have found the perfect soundset after hunting far and wide, IMO, it's the TSS payware soundset. Makes a big difference.

I will also raise my glass to the venerable Level D 767. One of the features that sets that LD767 apart is its 100% faithful rendering of saved panel states, FMS data, and EHSI flight paths, which is an absolutely crucial capability for my flight sim sesssions, which invariably see me repeatedly flying previously saved flight regimes that are often only a few minutes in duration. Virtually ALL the other addon aircraft that I own fall short in this panel save capability - The PMDG 747 loses all display data and retrieves saved flights with blacked out instrument panels and a disabled landing gear lever, the Embraer 170 EHSI display in retrieved flights shows the waypoints in sequence, but without the flight path line connecting them, and the PMDG 737 displays significant discrepancies and loss of fidelity in PFD panels states between when they are saved and when they are later retrieved. The view out the cockpit window of the LD767 is also unsurpassed, with a panoramic vista of the runway threshold on short finals, in contrast to the PMDG MD11, for example, whose instrument panel seriously obscures the external view, though that is apparently in faithful replication of the real MD11 flight deck, where pilots have to lean forward into the yoke right down to the flare, craning their necks to see the runway on finals. Finally, the raw POWER served up by the engines of that LD767 is absolutely breathtaking. Nudging the throttle levers a hair forward in that bird IMMEDIATELY slows down the descent rate during final approaches, unlike the PMDG and Feelthere Embraer fleet, whose engines require far more aggressive throttle advances, and more crucial seconds of response time, in order to tame that VSI needle on approaches. As mentioned at the start of this discussion thread, thet LD767 hand-flies with exacting precision, carving that final right turn in the Kai Tak IGS 13 approach like an olympic slalom skier in knee-deep freshly fallen powder snow. While the system depth of PMDG and to a lesser extent the Feelthere EMB family are comparable to the painstakingly intricate system detail and procedural complexity offered by the LevelD 767, those other aforementioned features are what keep me rabidly loyal to the LD767, which I still fly for most of the time I can spare to indulge in my favourite hobby.

Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.

Hi Gerry, drop them a note via PM to have a look into this issue. Give them your proof of purchase and... here we go. :( It's really worth trying the modified panel. Andre Folkers did an outstanding job.

Cheers - Stefan Maus

I have to agree with that... The power of that plane is also a great thing, and so is the way the saving and reloading of the panel happens. While I love/i] the PMDG 747, the problem with that panel reloading is, as you said, that it all "starts up" on the fly (quite literally). This is very annoying, for it takes some valuable seconds before the A/P gets back online and that's not something you can always afford to have. You know what? Back in the day when I painstakingly tried to run FSX without much success, I had reviewed the CS767 and really liked it for the visuals. But, I got fed up. The performance was too bad on my system, so i got myself the FSX LDS767. I loaded it up, and it simply worked. You have no idea how relieved and pleased I felt, and only for 15 Euros or so!As a sidenote: The TSS soundpack really is the best of all payware and freeware? I'd be interested in some opinions on this, as I've been looking around for a good soundset.

Yup, she's a great aircraft to fly. The LDS767 is the best 767 for FS.

First PIC767 and now Level-D 767.An oldie but everybody is trying to out do he.Nebojsa

HelloHere's how it looks with Andre's VC repaint in both FSX and FS9 FSXFS9

Love it. Had the PIC767 for FS2000 & 2002 and now Level D for FS9 :(
