August 4, 201015 yr Another NOD32 fan here, but maybe I will check out Microsoft Security Essentials too (since it's free!).
August 4, 201015 yr Moderator NOD32 without question - not only is it a great AV but as far as FSX goes, it has the smallest footprint and is least intrusive to the flying experience. Most of the major products a4re quite good today but each has a different effect on FSX with bg processes, etc. Many times, just disabling the AV will still leave the bg process running which could affect FSX. NOD32 is the least intrusive.A while back NickN did some checking on this subject - search for his posts for more in depth info.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
August 4, 201015 yr I use Vipre. Performance tests have shown time and time again that it has the smallest footprint of any AV out there. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
August 4, 201015 yr AVG. And Spybot every now and then. Great combo, and free. And zero effect on FSX, no need to stop them. Paul Skol
August 4, 201015 yr I used AVG for years until I started getting problems in FSX. Now using Avast and have not seen a problem since.G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
August 5, 201015 yr I have fixed over 15 clients computers this year that had AVG installed on them. "Antivirus2009" and "googleredirect" trojans will demolish your PC and your system32 files and AVG will not even notice that they corrupted your system. Both of these Trojans where made to Destroy AVG, Mcafee, and Avast. Might aswell have a doggy door for rootkit viruses also. Trend Micro has been the only one to Stop the MBR rootkit. People pay $1000 for a new pc and protect it with free anti virus programs....I just dont get it, but keeps me employed.
August 5, 201015 yr My parent's computer had the "antivirus 2009" trojan on it for the longest time - I fixed their PC by using Microsoft Security Essentials... Norton and Kapersky failed to catch av2009...I also use MSE on my home PC. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 5, 201015 yr I always put Microsoft Security Essentials on all of the computers that I prepare at ELITE, it is definitely a great, light, and reliable program.
August 5, 201015 yr As mentioned, I use NOD32 on 3 out of 4 of our rigs at home. One of them is older and doesn't have any protection at the moment. It had AVG but I ditched it because it was running poorly (worse than a old P4, 3GB, single core, E7205 should - old FS rig handed down to the wife). Performance has improved since removing the free AVG. I wanted to install MSE on it but it wouldn't install. It said that it is missing a update. I tried everything but no luck. I think I am going to rebuild the thing with a new OS or get another license or NOD32. August 5, 201015 yr Commercial Member I use F-Secure. Although I have rules set not to scan any FSX or flight sim related programs I unload the AV when running FSX. I don't notice any difference though whether the AV is loaded or not with the current rules.MCafee 2009 was ok although a little rough on resources. 2010 was a disaster. August 5, 201015 yr I think I posted this before but cant remember. Iobit has a cool utility that allows you to shut down your antivirus and backgroup utilities like your printer and non essential programs that are not needed during FSX. http://iobit.com/gamebooster.html
August 5, 201015 yr After many years of not going anywhere near Norton products I switched to Norton IS 2009 as at that time it had the smallest footprint of all the most popular products on my test PC. I am now running with NIS 2010 and don't even bother switing it off when using FSX as it seems to have no effect on FSX at all. I will probably continus using Norton, unless I see something better.
