August 3, 201015 yr My norton internet security suite 2010 is about to expire and I'm wondering weather to renew it. Prior to starting FSX I can open norton & disable antivirus, firewall and turn on "silent mode". Is this okay, or should I try something different. August 4, 201015 yr I like NOD32. They have great phone support. Just don't get put on hold because they loop their jingle and it is terribleYou can buy it cheaper at Microcenter than what you find on their website. Also, make sure you get rid of Norton completely. I understand it is really hard to get rid of without a OS reinstall. I was never able to get rid of it on a older system. August 4, 201015 yr You will get many recommendations - usually based on personal experience. Here is mine:Late last year my subscription (which came with my new Dell computer) to McAfee ran out. Prior to that I did a lot of research and found that many professional IT guys (not all to be sure) recommended the free Microsoft Security Essentials program.I've been using it for some 9 months now and it has worked extremely well. In addition to it's catching a number of potential threats, the fact that it uses very little in the way of system resources is a plus for me.

August 4, 201015 yr ...and here's mine. I've had McaAfee and Norton, and I'm sorry I spent money on them. You can get rid of Norton, but you have work at it. I'm testing Microsoft Security Essentials on my non FS computer, but I can't say that I am thrilled with it yet. I've seen it out of nowhere hog 80% of my core 2 duo, and most of 2gb of ram. I used to have the free versoin of AVG on that computer, but since vs 9 came out I had to turn off so many features so it wouldn't slow things down, that I just got rid of it. I don't know anything about Nod32. I have free Avast on my FS computer. I've run FS with Avast on and with it off, and I don't see any hit.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
August 4, 201015 yr 1# Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2010. Older Trend Micro was a little lame and was buggy. Zero impact on FSX. There is a reason that no one ever hears about NOD32, super hard interface and feels like your going to launch the space shuttle. Anything from Norton is a resource hog and should be shut down while using FSX. AVG=Junk, was good 4 years ago. Kaspersky is good but eats up a lot of virtual ram while running also. Panda Antivirus is good and is the only anti virus to remove the 09 Google redirect virus but is way to hard for the consumer to use. I do IT work for a living and everyone has Norton and Mcafee and all the virus and malware to share with friends. :( We have venders giving us there stuff to try and alot of there software ends up in my circle filing cabinet. :( You guys with norton have to download the Norton uninstaller package to get rid of it. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/...0080710133024EN Then a good registry cleaner. http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/ Then defrag..haha I have not tried the NOD32 ESET Smart security but looks promising.
August 4, 201015 yr Since MSE came along I have had no need at all for any commercial anti virus package. Used to use AVG which was very good. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU

August 4, 201015 yr I replaced NOD32 with Microsoft Security Essentials when my subscriptions ran out. It works perfectly - lots of bang for no bucks at all.
