PMDG 737 NGX: PMDG's attitude toward realism

Featured Replies

I never said it would. Mat wanted technical charts. If you want to do fuel and wind planning you would either have to do it yourself through the PMDG manuals or by using a calculator of some sort.
Do you think that in the PMDG manuals is enough material to do the flight planning stuff? I don't remind the md11 having these pages even though the manual was very extensive.

Caines737, when can we expect a release of the DVD/BlueRay? Do you think we could be able to download both versions instead of purchasing hard cover? If not, will you have a distribution center in the States so we don't have to wait forever for DVD mailed from Europe? Is it going to be something like Pilot's Eye DVD's? I like their releases but I think they're a little bit lacking technical info.
I have only watched several WAR and ITTV (spelling correct?) videos and they are nice to have, but this is as you mention, more technical. This is more like beeing in the action and you are talked to by the pilots and they often say what they do when they fly and why they have to do it like that. We fly in this DVD very short legs, with flying times 45m to 1h often, and then you see very much action in cockpit at short time. WOW! I checked out pilotseye.tv and it was something more than WAR, yes. Fine video, but they are also focusing a great part out of the windows and at the nice nature. My DVD / Bluray (after a while) focus even more on flying technique. I am soon finnish with the post production on 8 legs. I will see how much time it is space for on one DVD, but some of my legs last in 30 mins, with 10-15 mins flight deck prep, planning, flows and lists before we are lifting from the ground. I am looking so forward to send this on the marked.I have considered using an american DVD-authoring company (making the plates from files) and sending to a store in america, but I dont know the American marked very well. In norway this is set in price to: 349 NOK (inc vat). That means 65 USD, and I know this is high price compared to many other DVD`s in america. It is possible I set the price slightly, lower and ex vat for export to america. If I sell directly from america the price in USD will be aprox 30 USD. I have also considered if its possible the download directly from the net, I also have server with several TB space but gets download speeds at 200 kbyte (0.2MB) sek, little bit slow for the moment. Maybe it is possible to pay via paypal and then get ticket to download, but here it comes question about security also. The price will become lower if I make it to be downloadable. Also it will be HD then, at least 720. I am working all days with checking formats, quality and compitability now. (In addition to full time study, economics and work, hehe)

Mat the MD-11X manuals didn't come with the necessary charts and such because Boeing will not release them to the public. The only people that have managed to get the performance data are ones who know actual MD-11 pilots (like myself). Other than that there is a pretty tight lid on the info. I know TOPCAT (spelling?) has a program that does takeoff calculations and such, but there is no real source other than THE source to get the rest of the charts from. It would be great if NGX came with all of these performance charts, and what was posted up the other day is a good start. You could also get one of the manual calculators (the name escapes me at the moment) but here they are on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E6B . Takes some getting used to though, but can be purchased from any private pilot website, or they come in the ground schooling bag you are required to have by the FAA for PPL training. I have one and must say it is well worth the $25-$30 you spend on it. Just a pain to learn to use. Especially when you never got formal training. There are plenty of guides on the net though, and sure they are plenty of people here that are real pilots who can help.

Hello. Negative. Unable to comply. Only thing I _can_ make is english. They brief in norwegian/english, mostly english. If I see interest is remarkable high here and in the american enviroment I will text all DVD in english. Lot of work and will take several days, but I will do if people demand.
Demand. Big%20Grin.gifWhat do you mean BTW? English subtitles? Would be more than useful... Great stuff! On that forum page you posted, I really like these pictures. They are of remarkable quality. I just love the 2nd one of your 2nd post on that page (the fuselage shot). Clean and shiny plane, and such a sharp picture - beautiful work. :(sig.gif

Thank you for the answer. I forgot the name of the manual calculators either. In flightschool we called them "Drehmeier" (doesn't make much sense in English though).I'm going to give TOPCAT a try.PMDG B744 came with a whole chapter called "cruise and fuel planning". This is exactly what I mean. But I can understand that Boeing doesn't want everybody to have their documents...

+1 for TOPCAT. A great great program. Pay him once, and you get free upgrades, which I am sure he will do to include the PMDG NGX.

Funny, I believe I still got one of those too... Big%20Grin.gifYeah, I'm missing some serious integrated range tables as well. Too bad they are kept secret apparently. :(sig.gif

Interesting. I see that the ND in the picture has range rings. American Airlines 737 do not. We just have small tic marks along the center line on the ND. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but we also have the FMC with the single VNAV button instead of the climb, cruise and descent buttons. Also I can see the one in this pic has and ADF. American did not have those installed. index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=22497

AFAIK the range rings show when the WX radar display is ON.

But the weather radar is not on in the first picture is it? ;)Nick Jones

No, they're running the Terrain. Honestly, I thought the Range Arcs appeared whenever your ND was using the MAP display. I'm starting to wonder now if it's a product of the WXR and TERR database.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

The throttles shake as a result of tha autopilot making constant adjustments. That being said, we are building a complex dampening system into the NGX in order to eliminate this issue.
Oh, BTW, don't forget the yokes too. Drooling.gif
