UT2: how good is it?

Say I'm on a taxiway in a que with 5 aircraft infront of me... if I go to a menu item such as "weather" and then return back to the sim the whole AI would vanish from the taxi way... (they would return to the respective gates etc)...Personally I do find that an annoyance and terribly unrealistic - I'm hoping that in the latest service pack they may have found a way to fix the issue thats all.
Not to be a smart a$$ either, but when your on the taxiway with 5 a/c in front of you, how realistic is it to go into the menu and change the weather? Why not set it before the flight?I agree in a way that to have them start back at the gate or somewhere in air could be an inconvenience. For me, the easiest thing to do, is try to get everything set up in advance prior to starting the flight so that you dont have to access the menu, or at least cut down on opening it. Although once your in the air the menu shouldn't be a big deal if the traffic resets since you most likely be able to see much of it anyways when your in cruise. Like Jim said for those of us that use it, it's just a minor inconvience that either learned to live with or got used to. I would supposes that if for some reason your constantly in and out of the menu then it would be a pain, but frankly once you have your settings the way you want them I dont see why you would access the menu that much during the flight anyway.Just my .02

Again the issue is just being masked....If you go to any menu item that takes you away from the sim it will reset the traffic..... so saying "oh well it ain't realistic to change the weather you shouldn't do that" is completely irrelevant, that was just an example of going to a menu item and going away from the simulation screen, it happens with any menu item that takes you away from the sim, view map, realisim settings etc. It's a sim - I should be able to change parameters whenever I want... and not live in fear of hitting the menus that cause AI to reset (with the exception to changing date time of course).I think the best way to summarise this is, I use the menu's a lot more than others, so this issue affects me more - I owned UT1 and it was amazing, I just wish this issue could be fixed in UT2.Anyway to the OP - try the demo (if there is one) and see if it suits your needs.

UT2 runs thru Simconnect. Simconnect is what is re-setting the AI not UT2. On a side note I just did the UT2 updates and everything went fine. I havent played around with the power-pack yet so I cant answer about that yet.

Solution: don't change parameters right in the middle of a flight. This isn't a million dollar simulation system.

I have it downloaded but I am dreading the re assignment process. Yes, I know it will save some assignments but there is always a lot of adjustments to make. I think I'll wait until my wife is out of town in December to tackle it.To add to the discussion - FSX is all about trade offs. If you improve one aspect, you will degrade something else. There is no way you can get FSX (or FS9) to be completly realistic. Please, show me an add on that does not have that quality. INMO, UT2 with a healthy dose of WofAI and UGA converted to FSX flight plans is the way to go. Even better, import those WofAI and UGA files in to UT2. Of course, it will have its drawbacks but it is the best we can have at this time.I agree, the menu issue can be annoying but with a little planning you can avoid it.

Hi - I have been using WOAI with FS9 without problems. I am now using FSX and WOAI is problematic and time consuming to set up correctly - then there is the w\ hole FS9 / FSX incompatibility issues to wade through and rectify. Is UT2 traffic as frame friendly as WOAI? Does UT2 have the UPS & FEDEX aircraft & routes? Does UT@ cover off on Australian airlines (Jetstar, Tiger Airways and so on)? Many thanks for your time, WilloW

I think it does include UPS and FEDEX, but I'm not sure. So many cargo airlines are missing that if you want cargo airlines, you'd better not get UT2. It does include australian airlines, but I wouldn't know which ones exactly. Also take a look at MyTraffic X. The models are less good and the flight plans are not as realistic as UT2's, but if that doesn't bother you, you get an enormous amount of traffic at a huge number of airports.

Necroposting is in vogue. The older the thread the better, or so it seems.

Yes - I have to smile at the reference to necroposting as I believe all the opinions related to UT2 are still there. While John's support is usually pretty prompt I have determined that this product is best for someone who has time to tinker. It has all the bells and whistles necessary for someone to add schedules and adjust frequencies and add skins etc.. but that was never why I purchased it in the first instance. I purchased it because I wanted real traffic schedules, real skins while relying on service pack updates to modernize the schedules - Well this is happening, but the problem appears to be that some of the data provided to UT2 in the previous update are missing some airline schedules because, according to John, the information was not provided so they cannot compile what was not provided. That is all very well and good, but that then forces the user to search out their own schedules, their own aircraft, their own skins to import and configure - something I never intended doing in the first place. For me, several regional airlines are no longer present at the airport I mostly fly out of - a mild annoyance. My solution is to fiddle with the program and learn to use it - and frankly I just am not that interested in doing that. So for me I will still use UT2 and put up with this annoyance because at its heart it is probably the best of the bunch out there, but I will not be spending any more money on updates - updates that leave out airlines that where there in the last schedule - Here I would like John to offer us a better solution than " thats the data we paid for and if the airlines don't supply the schedule, well that is just the way it is". (See my posts on the forum related to missing airlines from the WInter 10 update). Ray Hughes

No, it does not have Fedex, and UPS. Just like it does not have Jet Blue and Ryanair in the latest schedule.

No Ryanair? That's ridiculous. I will be sticking to the version of UT2 that I have then, because there are plenty of Ryanair 737s on my PC.

I agree. I had to download a FP from avsim, then assign the UT2 Ryanair models to it. Took about 30mins. Did that with jetblue as well.

Hello All This posting is some what serendipitous as I've just purchased UT2 after encountering issues, see my recent post here, when porting over all of my manual and WOAI AI traffic. And I must admit that I've found the whole process incredibly frustrating. The first problem, although failrly well known, was the lack of Ryanair - a big deal when I use stansted as my 'home' airport. Now I know that a lot of people say, "use the power pack and 30 minutes later you can have Ryanair". Well I consider myself pretty AI "savvy", but I'm afraid this just wasn't the case. For a start, the compilation process took 30 minutes on its own. Add to this the fact that I've got about 15 individual Ryanair repaints which all had to be assigned to individual flights. Now I could be wrong here, but using the good old manual method, a particular aircraft repaint could be assigned to a whole week's worth of schedules. However, in UT2, you can only assign a particular repaint one flight at a time, not a whole week's worth of individual flights. In the end, I just gave up and decided to turn the problem on its head and copy over the UT2 (FSX compliant) Aardvark B737-800 model and air file into my existing Aardvark B737-800 folder as all of the existing (FS9) repaints are compatible with the UT2 models. Hey presto - Stansted now has Ryanair with models that are FSX compliant (and all 15 repaints) - the whole process taking less than 5 minutes. Personally, I would like to do this will all of my existing schedules and ignore all of those generated by UT2. However, (and now for the second problem) this is just not possible as the UT2 narrow body Airbus models for instance, are only CFM powered, not IAE and the Boeings only have one engine derivative each. Therefore, I'm compromising and copying over all of the model and air files from UT2 that can be used and using their equivalent bgl flightplans. With those schedules that call for models that can't be copied over from UT2 (PW powered B767s for instance), I'm using the UT2 schedules. For me, I would say that UT2 was a worthwhile purchase (only £17.99 from Amazon) as it has allowed me to acquire fully FSX compliant models of quality AI from the likes of like DJAI, AIA, TFS etc which can all use the existing FS9 repaints and hence, schedules. However, if you need to start adjusting AI parameters and are used to the simplicity of downloading a new flightplan, a few repaints and compiling the whole lot with Traffic Tools, then you may find the whole process some what frustrating to say the least. Oh, and another problem (although not with UT2) is that the demo version of FSRepaint cannot be used to view repaints that are FSX compliant. In other words, once I'd copied over the UT2 mdl file, FSRepaint demo would no longer display the repaints. Hence, I now have two mdl files - one to use in FSX and one to use in FSRepaint to view any new repaints. Regards
