Quote from the movie Total Recall: "Who told you to THINK? I don't give you enough information to THINK!"I suspect that words to this effect are probably being used by some Microsoft execs reading this Forum.

No one ever said the sim would be built from the ground up, in fact no one said anything about the sim. We don't know jack sh..t about it at this point other than some short teasers.
From the FAQ:"With “Microsoft Flight” we’re approaching the virtual flight genre from the ground up""The new “Microsoft Flight” retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect while offering all players a whole new look and feel"I'm not saying this sim is going to suck, I know I'll buy it on release day. All I'm concerned about (as are others) is that this will not be a significant departure from all the problems FSX has. Yes, this is speculative, but not unreasonable from what we've seen. Besides, if everyone had come in here with a 100% positive reaction you wouldn't have said anything about people not being able to form opinions based on the length of the video.

As far as im concorned Flight has to get really good reviews on the gamesites to get my attention, lets be honest here, fligtsimulation alone is a small niche market these days. So im hoping MS has something really good for casual gamers here, otherwise i see major failure all over this release.

I'm on a 3.5 year-old machine here and I'm going to hang on until I see what Flight has to offer. Right now, I really like FSX but performance just isn't consistent enough. It's OK (but not great) for backcountry flying with Orbx. If Flight performs better than FSX, then I'll happily purchase it and upgrade my machine. If it's another case of Microsoft building the sim for future hardware (which may or may not ever exist), than MSFS will be sorta' dead to me. Maybe I'll fly FS9. Occasionally.I was more than bit underwhelmed with the new video, but it actually left me slightly hopeful that they are focusing on tuning and modernizing the codebase. However, it may be naive for me to hope that a game in 2011 runs better than a game from 2006.

I can already tell  you that Flight will get good reviews ... there are a few franchises (MSFS, Civilization, Halo, etc.) that always review well, even if  they don't merit such a high score.   Also,  I would like to forward you some stock info. that I will be buying in this time next year.  I see you are good at far in advance predictions .. thanks  :(

So all of you are saying you'd be disappointed if Flight is:-A performance enhanced version of FSX that could use multiple cores and hyperthreading?-Rely more heavily on the GPU?-Not require as much .cfg editing?-Have improved shadowing and lighting?-Improved ATC?-Improved sky and cloud textures?Oh and also..Remain compatible with current FSX addons. Not all of what I said is backed up with hard evidence but just think about the implications there...

That's right. I want all new code! So what if there are 17,381 additional bugs because the total rewrite put the thing over budget and was forced to market. I want NEW code!! Full sliders RIGHT at 240fps, running on a Celeron 1.4ghz and 512mb of ram!Oh, wait!I'm the guy who calls the new version FSX.5. And just like four years ago, I'll be searching for some Best Buy store that has gone and put it on the shelf a couple of days early. Took five hours to find FSX, wonder if I can beat that time when Flight comes out?

I am sure all of us are most confident in Microsoft to deliver a great upgrade. Just like they had masses of people upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows ME and then from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Microsoft never promises something they can't deliver. Now if you can all excuse me; I have to run to the toilet.

Lol....For the cost of an add on for fsx-many that have not taken my fancy-I think I will get this in any case...as I well the next version of Xplane. To boycott only costs us as simmers in the long run imho...we need new sims to be developed.Would suggest many look at the comments from Aerosoft on researching their new sim. Seems things were simple on developing a sim from the ground up-until they asked to model all the things fsx does-the programmers seemed to have balked at that point...Lockheed Martin seems to have grabbed esp and run with it...wonder why?

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Dont hate ... MS has had the most impact on the world in the last 20yrs..... period!

I have to say I am really disappointed by the teaser. I've been using FS since its 5.1 version, and each versions felt like it was an upgrade from this 3d engine because they had to maintain a certain compatibility with the addons. With ACE closing down and the announcement of Flight, I was hoping MS would create a totally new 3D engine. Even though older add-ons wouldn't be compatible, it would have been a fresh start. Flight Simulator needs a new 3D engine. The current engine is too limited from its roots. I'm more impressed with this for example:

Hi,It is too early in the developpement stage to criticize MS's work. But if they don't correct the current FSX shortcomings (some date back to the early FS versions) and don't refer to the existing FS11 wish list, they are hopeless. If they favour the gamers to the simmers, the are hopeless too.I an confident that they will not ignore our community.

I guess what we should keep in mind is that 'the teaser' was probably decided on by someone who is not a real FS fan...probably someone in marketing....so would have had no frame of reference or benchmark to compare it to. To them it would probably have looked like something 'cool' to post for the kiddies. It clearly wasn't posted to appeal to hardcores - yet.It doesn't seem that the actual developers are as involved as they were last time which is a pity. Having them involved in the forum discussions was great.
