So how does the PMDG 737NGX compare to...

Hi all, I was reading this report on the Aeroflot 737-500 crash at Perm,And one of the issues was map shift,I wonder if this could be modeled?http://www.aaib.gov.uk/sites/aaib/cms_resources/VP%2DBKO%5FReport%5Fen%2Epdf

if im not wrong NG stands for next generation wich includes the 737-600 and above...so any problems with the 737-500 probably wont be included in the NGX but i could be wrong...
1) When numerous people ask if 2010 is still the release date, it goes unanswered.2) Heading into November now and project is still in the alpha stage.3) Various members of the development team comment on new things they still hope to add to the project.4) Manuals are one of the last things they complete; and they have not been started yet.5) Beta stage will be shorter than their other projects, but there still must be some time given to it.
The qualitiy and precision of these kind of questions AND answers are the reasons that keep me away of this thread. JC_spliff.gif

Wow, looking alright, but I'm certainly gonna build my own one before I dump $200K+ in this. B)sig.gifAh, developers, forgot to ask. Will we get all of these, the BSOD, RSOD, GSOD and SSOD (the mighty stripy screen of death) plus some other test/BITE routines? Big%20Grin.gif They add nothing to the simulation at all but I was just wondering, talking about realism... Big%20Grin.gif I expect a yes anyways, but thought I would still ask.bite.jpg

To be fair on the "are the manuals ready" line of inquiry, I think the last thing we heard (from Ryan, I believe) was that they weren't done. Of course, they could have been done the next day and we wouldn't know. Not unreasonable to assume they aren't done with the information given, but you all know what they say happens when you "assume" . On a happy note, did some great flying the Jetstream today with my FS2Crew add-on to the add-on. Really a lot of fun.

In my experience the best part of purchasing something is usually the anticipation. I bought a nice new Aprilla RSV4 motorbike but before I purchased it I researched it, dribbled over photographs, drawled over specifications and dreamed about riding it. Now I've got it and it's good. BUT the anticipation was better. Enjoy the wait chaps ;-)My kindest regards and have a great week.Richard Georgiou

What you can't see (yet!) are the full range of motion animations on all of these switches - they move realistically in exactly the way a pilot has to move them on the real aircraft. For example, the fuel pump switches must be pulled out toward you in space as they move between positions- we have modeled that here just as it happens on the real aircraft.
This is a welcome addition. I remember fondly, when learning to fly the 737, half the battle of the first sim was to figure out how to physically operate the switches! Some need to be pulled out, some need to be pushed in, some are straightforward and are able to be simply 'flicked'. Some knobs are spring loaded and others aren't.I never thought this would be able to be neatly modelled in flight sim but yet again PMDG raises the bar!

You will have map shift if you have a GPS failure, with no ground based navaid updating.

Robert, I'm really not trying to start rumors, and meant no disrespect in my post; I just thought it might be smart to examine what we know and analyze it for expectations sake. Point one, I know you don't give exact release dates, but you have posted a 2010 date for the NGX. Ryan has told us more than once we'll be notified when project goes to beta, and since we haven't been told that, I just assumed it's alpha awhile longer. Points three and four are related to Ryan, and I guess I'm incorrect on the manuals not being started yet...my apologies. :( Anyway, all is good, we'll love this when it's released, this year or next.
I agree with your points and think they are all valid. People get a little too precious when someone asks these questions. PMDG dont set release dates? Coming in 2010 is a release date. It's 31st of December 2010 worst case. And that still appears on the NGX page today. I just don't understand why it's got to be so top secret. If manuals are started why not let us know......that's fantastic news and should be a milestone worth publicizing. Moving from Alpha to beta testing is also a major milestone what benefit does it provide by not mentioning this info. There are a few people on here annoyed with the methods used and some that are happy to wait and appreciate what they receive and some people are a mixture of both attitudes like me. The hype is here, the purchasers are ready and all agree expectations are high but will be exceeded. All I ask that major milestones be publicized. That will create much more hype and marketing power in my opinion.Mike Kendall
