So how does the PMDG 737NGX compare to...

I wouldn't say been waiting years for this bird. Granted they officially announced it some time ago, but with all the other projects going on the January post is what kicked it off for me. I was guessing a summer/fall release in my own mind. I have plenty of birds to fly so it is not to big of a deal in my mind.. The NGX is just going to bridge the gap for me between the J-41 where it cannot go as far as I need it to without multiple fuel stop, and routes that are far to short for the MD-11 to do. Can't wait to see what the next update brings. At least we have moved on from the slivers. :(

It's not an axis in the real airplane... it's buttons on the yoke. What I can ask about is maybe finding some way to give the trim a finer degree of motion, so one press on the button isn't as big a movement as it normally is.
Don't want to be smart, but I still just want to throw in my thought which of course might be completely off, so feel free to correct me. I believe that the elev trim in fact is some sort of axis. That's also why the wheels have handles, to turn them if necessary or as a backup (hope they will work in the add-on haha). The buttons on the yoke will actuate motors that turn the trim axis. As far as I remember these motors sit in the back of the plane (see below) and turn the cable drum, not the trim wheels directly in the flight deck. The actual trimming device that really moves the stabilizer is in the rear of the airplane close to the aft bulkhead (the famous monster jackscrew).Furthermore I believe the feature asked for has been asked in a similar manner - regarding the throttles. Someone wanted a kind of "alignment" indication in order to place the hardware throttles manually to the correct place in order to disengage the autothrottle and not have a thrust jump.sig.gifAttached for those who are interested (I hope it's ok to post here - otherwise I will certainly remove it again), we can see the cable drum on the left pic here, these cables go pretty much straight into the cockpit and attach to the trim wheels. The right pic shows the big jackscrew and its attachment to the actual stablilizer (the big green thing that vanishes in that dark hole - we're looking up and aft here, slightly to the right hand side of the plane).trim.jpg

I think the question was about the operation of the trim. That is normally done/actuated through using the elevator trim swithces on the yoke.Regarding finer control of trim on one press of button. I think the only thing that matters is that the trim rate deg/second should be correct. And that also is airspeed dependant, IIRC, ie it varies with airspeed. If all of this is already correctly implemented, then the trim is as it should be. (an option to down/uptune the trim-rate is of course another matter, but then the departure from realism should be optional :)).Tero

Once this is released I can finally get back into FSX. Wasn't able to fly a 737 since my FS2004 days because the wilco 737 is so bugged.

Amazing pictures - I mean the "before and now" ones. Can we fly with this bird, or all of these are just eyecandy? Though, it's quite real for that too.For me the FS9 version was on top at that time when only few other "realistic" B737 was on the shelf as an option. As it seems this bird turns even more into the "as real as it gets" scene. Well, let us "game" with this "toy" a.s.a.p.Very nice work PMDG, very nice!kind regards,ps.: the painters going to be asked kindly to make Malev Hungarian Airlines liveries as well... thanks from all of those, who will fly NGX in Malev paint.

I love PMDG quality, but to support my comment about a 2011 release, here's why:1) When numerous people ask if 2010 is still the release date, it goes unanswered.2) Heading into November now and project is still in the alpha stage.3) Various members of the development team comment on new things they still hope to add to the project.4) Manuals are one of the last things they complete; and they have not been started yet.5) Beta stage will be shorter than their other projects, but there still must be some time given to it.In the end, they could pull this together quickly, and make me look foolish where I have to post a bunch of "embarrassed emoticons". However, if you add up the above reasons, it just makes sense to think 2011. I believe in realistic expectations, and I've adjusted mine if it doesn't arrive for Christmas. Speaking of that, do they really want to support a new addon during the Christmas season? Make that reason number #6. :(

With all the stuff being implemented it can slip into 2011. I read the other post, and RSR said they are even implementing different brake (steel & carbon) depending on the airframe and such... So it looks like this is going to be even better than I imagined when he started talking about the parts having cycles and such.

Curt-A couple of counter points:1) We NEVER give out information on release dates. We might be release ready next week... We might be looking at 2026... We aren't going to share that information.2) it is? Funny... I thought... never mind- you must know more than I do. :( 3) Various members: that would be me and Ryan? I think might be reading our comments incorrectly.4) They haven't? Huh... Okay- I'll call the printer and tell them to stop proofing the files we transmitted. Apparently they aren't the right ones.5) Phew! I'm glad you clarified this for me. It has been so long since we actually released a product I nearly forgot which order they go in. :( All kidding aside- please don't project information that you don't know to be true- other readers pick up on and assume you know something they don't- and that is how rumors and innuendo become facts we have to stomp out later...

So... Your saying that the NGX isn't in Alpha anymore and you already finished the manuals? :(

Robert, I'm really not trying to start rumors, and meant no disrespect in my post; I just thought it might be smart to examine what we know and analyze it for expectations sake. Point one, I know you don't give exact release dates, but you have posted a 2010 date for the NGX. Ryan has told us more than once we'll be notified when project goes to beta, and since we haven't been told that, I just assumed it's alpha awhile longer. Points three and four are related to Ryan, and I guess I'm incorrect on the manuals not being started yet...my apologies. :( Anyway, all is good, we'll love this when it's released, this year or next.

This is absolutely Mind Blowing!!! One question, will we be able to see the winglets/wings from the windows to our left or right because when you say its hard not to look back, I just want to see when I look back the winglets or wingtips at the side of the windows. If that can be modelled at all?
Oh boy! I'd love that!

Or course, some members will probably pick and choose Robert's previous remarks, and "interpret" them as I just typed above.EDIT....To avoid any confusion, please see Robert's original remarks. No, I doubt he is looking at 2026.

my opinion.. seeming that some of the before and after pics were 5 weeks old..Who said that "these pics we are showing today were taken today"If i was a developer i would sure as hell take a screenshot and preview it 2 months later, don't assume what stage it is in guys.. the pics are not taken the day they are posted (for majority of them)Just my 2 cents worth, bicker all you want, but the developers are smart and know what they are doing, building the amazing aircraft and marketing wise, never underestimate their strategies, think outside the square.. look for the hints.. im sure RNR gives out alot of hints. When you are flying it, you wont say "i waited this long for this" you will say "wow this is amazing it must have taken them so many an hours to make this"
