A little Heads-Up on the NGX...

To visit, I would ask the flight attendant at the door as you board, or maybe introduce yourself to one of the pilots at the gate prior to boarding, if you get the chance. Simply, introduce yourself and give them a brief description of why you're so interested in taking a look, that's all. Just like in any industry, some people are really cool, some are not. I've met aviation and flight sim enthusiasts in the airplane before and have let them in the flight deck during or after deplaning. To my surprise, I had a 15 year old kid that knew the MCDU really well from flying the Airbus in flight sim! I thought that was pretty cool. See Yah!Ray LemusA320 FO

So what do you do to visit the cockpit on the ground? I mean who would I ask the flight attendants?

I went into the flight deck of a Virgin Blue 737-800 in august 2006 after a flight from Melbourne to Brisbane. At the time I was 12 years old and didn't know anything about the systems and had only been interested in aviation for a short time and couldn't really have a convo with the pilots. We actually found out we could go in because me and my dad were sitting next to a deadheading flight attendant we were talking about my intrest in flying and how I wanted to be a pilot and she told us to wait untill everyone else had left before going up the front. Only the first oficer was present and I got to sit in his seat while he spoke To my dad. It was a good day. I recently found the photo and was anylizing every screen as to what options were fitted so I can choose them when the NGx Is released.

Tomorrow I'm flying an Air Transat A330-200 out of Toronto (CYYZ) - Gatewick and I'll bet I can get into the cockpit during the pre or post-flight. I know the F/O flying too :PRon Hamilton

Hey guys... I dont know if any flight crew come thru DTW and go to the stop over store but today I bought a FMS handbook on the 737 6/7/8/9.. it only 50 buck great deal... So if any crew come thru DTW and want to prepare for the PMDG 737 NGX I would suggest it... here a picture of it....
This is as stated a great book. I used it for the beta testing of the previous NG. I bought it online from http://www.cockpitcompanion.comCheers,

jumpseat flying is difficult everywhere even more after 9/11 but it sometimes just goes well, most companies don't have a real ban on it.. I once had to fly to Rome from Milan and started asking aroud if anybody had some contacts to get a visit in the cockpit and everybody said "impossible after 9/11". Well I got my lucky day. Being the first to board the plane i asked the FA at the door if there was any chance to visit the cockpit and was told "I'll see what can be done", well i was lucky as i had a hat from the italian ATC staff (taken at a fair a bit of time earlier) i sat in the first rows and during pre flight the FO came over to have a chat asking if i was an ATC or pilot ("both, virtual :(") and we had about 5 minutes chatting about FS, VATSIM and so on. He then had work to do... i thought it didn't work out when at the start of descent the FA told me i had been invited upfront... the captain had a look at me and told the FA i'd remain for the rest of the flight, strapped me in the jumpseat and so i had my landing in LIRF from the cockpit. GREAT experience. I was going to an airshow but i really didn't care anymore :D Just ask, if you don't ask they won't invite you... and what can happen? at most they tell you "no we can't let anybody on the flight deck" ;)

I had a wonderful experience in the caribbean post 9/11.I was sitting at the front with my father and sister [i was 16 i believe], and the routing with a triangular hop between, Barbados-Grenada-Tobago-Barbados etc. The crew changed at grenada and as we were sitting next to the door [Dash 8 Q400] i said to the cabin crew i loved avaition, and the pilots got chatting too. Just after the doors closed the flight atendant came to me and said, "are you ready, do you want to come to the flightdeck?", i said sure and was only expecting a 2minute look, as the plane was being prepared for departure.I was walked in, the door was closed behind me, and the co-pilot sorted the jumpset, which in a dash 8, is a panel next to the flight deck door which is pulled down, and the backrest is actually on the flightdeck door.I was given a headset and had control of my little radio panel to the right of me, so i pushed the volume up for the pilots and ATC, and had an amazing flight to Tobago.I was told differences between prop control and flying a jet, etc etc,We were hoping to land before the Virgin [from gatwick] flight which is a Boeing 744. As getting 400 people through a caribbean airport takes a ridiculous amount of time, buit Alas, as we turned final, i saw the shiney B744 sitting ont he gate,,Was a massive highlight to the whole holiday, thanks Liat ;)Cheers

I'm nearly positive that it's a federal law post-9/11 that no non-crew be allowed in the cockpits of US based airliners anywhere in the world while in-flight, and for any country's airliners when over US controlled airspace. I don't think you can just go and get permission from an airline in the US, I don't think it's even up to them.

In Europe, it's still possible but not everywhere. Depending on the departure or arrival country (and on the company), pilots can routinely take family members, or friends in the cockpit (or important customers, as the pilots carefully monitor the passenger lists for VIPs before the flight). For example, I recently (2010) made a complete Paris-Warshaw round trip in an Airbus A32x jumseat (actually that included flight preparation on the ground etc.) but that would not have been possible if the destination country had been, for example, England because local laws (or regulations, I don't know) expressly forbid it. Just to make you guys salivate, in the past two years, I made one take off and a couple of landings in a 777 jumpseat (different companies). Bruno PS: I am no VIP but having airline pilots in my flight club helps...

I wouldnt see why airlines wouldn't want film crews to be filming their flights. It shows their professionalism and will encourage people to fly with them
