Preparing for the NGX and 777

Featured Replies

I was content staying with FS9 until I learned about the NGX and 777 coming out from PMDG so I'm stepping over. I got my new Alienware machine yesterday, a nice Area 51 machine, unfortunately it arrived "deader than a door knob" it won't turn on, so I'm waiting for a replacement machine. In FS9 I was using Active Sky 6.5 for weather generation along with REX for textures, is this still the best combo for FSX? Thnx!!!Richard

I use activesky evolution but I am sure that the combo you have would give you great results. I believe that REX for FSX is a separate product.

If you've got the processing power to do it, REX for the clouds, ASE for the weather engine and Radar Contact for the ATC is an excellent combination. Throw in some voice control and co-pilot assistance from MCE, Vox ATC or FS2Crew and you're all the way there. In the meantime, you might want to check out iFly's 737 in FS9 on your old machine whilst you await the rebirth of your shiny new FSX computer and the arrival of PMDG's bird. Although iFly's 737 is not as in depth as PMDG's new NG is apparently going to be, it does have the virtue of being pretty good systems-wise, inexpensive, and with all the NG fleet apart from the 900ER, so it is a worthy addition and will get you used to driving an NG with a decent VC until the PMDG NG comes in for a landing. And anyone who likes 737s surely won't complain about having two new Boeing 737s for FS.Al

I can also confirm that the combo ASE and REX works great in FSX :(

Good topic - I was about to post something similar! I'm also gearing up for the big day (so much so that I bought the J41 to keep me quiet until it happens!)Good to hear that ASE and REX work together nicely. I'm off to add ASE to my collection...

Thanks for all the replies guys, unfortunately, I gave my old system to a friend the day before unpacking the new machine so I'll be twiddling myu thumbs while I wait. Actually, I'm compiling a list of all the other things I need to buy like FSUIPC, REX, etc for FSX. I tried FS 2Crew when it first came out but I just couldn't get used to all those windows open, it killed my "suspension of disbelief" does it still work like that or has it been changed for FSX? As for Radar Control, I'll wait for V5, I'm not sure when JD and Co. will be done, but I'm sure it will be exceptional like RC4. I'm actually hoping to record some African accented voice sets for V5 when they are ready.Richard

It sounda like you already have RC4. If you do it works for both. You just do another install to your FSX directoty. And I think you have to do another "e-mail bounce" to JD to resister butno more $$$.

i reccommend the voice FS2crews for addons that have it available like the pmdg 747. its quite cool.merry christmas everyone

Another +1 for ASE/REX and GEX too.If you have a brand new system, just a word of caution on Win-7 64 / FSX. It's taken me months, a clean OS / FSX install to finally get the combo stabilized from CDT's.Rather than turn this into another CTD thread - PM me if you need advice. My preparations for NGX is to somehow link PMDG's website and the "released" announcement to a cell phone signal that blows-up my phone with rings, automatically schedules a 2 week vacation from work, and delivers tickets for the wife and kids to Disney World.Working on the php scripts right now. I'd think that's a problem specific to your hardware config or something then - I've basically never seen a CTD with Win7 & FSX that wasn't the direct result of an actual code problem in an addon. It's been rock solid and stable.

What are the specs of your Alienware? Let us know how it run FSX. I am considering an Aleienware if my Dell H2C quad core can't handle the 737NG. I really hope the 737 runs better than my PDMG 747 does.

Referring more to uiautomationcore.dll . Once over that hump, the combo can't be beat for performance. His Alienware rig (once working should be great.

I still do not have any fs2crew products yet, but they have voice control now, so you should definitely check them out:http://www.fs2crew.com/cart/
