FSX...In Beautiful Downtown Unalakleet!

Featured Replies

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been watching Discovery Channel's "Flying Wild Alaska," and thinking, "Boy...That would be fun to fly in flight simulator." So my question is, does anyone know of any scenery that would encompass the areas seen in this show? That could mean anywhere from Point Barrow, to Unalakleet, to Anchorage. I have tried Tileproxy, but none of the services offer good coverage of Western Alaska. Thanks for your help!GPreddy

Alaska is my favorite flying area, usually fly around Juneau to Sitka, Ketchikan etc. Since watching the show you are talking about and Alaska Wingmen (If you haven't seen this show I think it's the best - there is three episodes I think from Nat-Geo) I've been flying more areas. Anchorage to Fairbanks is nice because it puts you around Denali, Mt. Mckinley. UTX Alaska covers the entire state. A must have, it puts on roads and small towns, and tons of glaciers. If you're on the other side of the state you have Pacific Fjords and Tongass Fjords scenery which is the best you can get.My Favorite shows:1. Alaska Wingmen2. Flying Wild Alaska3. Ice Pilots. (Ice pilots will make you want to fly all around canada, especially NWT in a DC-3, DC-4, Curtiss C-46 or Lockheed Electra)

UTX Alaska all the way

Wow! Thanks for your quick replies! It looks like UTX Alaska is the way to go.Does anyone know of any Era Alaska aircraft? I already have the Era Beech 1900d.Thanks,GPreddy

It's been about a year now since I was looking, but for AI. Back then there wasn't anything that reflected the post-merger paints. Maybe it's better now. I did find some plans FrontierFlying-FTA-USA-Wi05.zip, erh_w08-09.zip, and HagelandAviation-HAG-USA-Au04.zip. Also a paint for the TFS Dash 8-100 aidh1erh.zip. It isn't Era, but there is a fleet paint and plans for Penair.scott s..

UTX Alaska has a nice replica of Unalakleet. Most of the major buildings are modeled and located in the actual positions. The colors are are also close to the actual. My only disappointment is I can't find the wood marker locating the buried seal flipper. :) Bob.. :)

If you want to bush fly, no question, you need all the Orbx PNW scenery.

Just bear in mind that the PNW scenery doesn't include Alaska. Pacific Fjords does, but only the very southernmost part of the state - certainly well below Unalakleet. Having Pac. Fjords and Tongass Fjords gives you a huge area of southern Alaska and B.C. to fly in, though.

There are quite a few airfields that are featured in the Flying Wild Alaska program. It would be great to get some decent scenery for those areas.I reckon Bill is the man for the job !Maybe someone could then do some missions featuring 40 mph cross-winds !!!

There's a pretty good custom rendition of Unalakleet in the Avsim library that I've been using. Just look for unalakleet_paun.zip

It appears to be for FS9. Does it work OK in FSX ?Think I may update it using Instant Scenery... and maybe put in the new Hangar !!!Thnx.

There's an FSX version in addition to the FS9 one. Search in Flight Simulator X - Scenery for unalakleet_paun.zip.
