why not trains

Featured Replies

We have traffic on the roads, ships and boats ,i would love to see trains travelling below, you could follow them on there journey ,it would be fun,What do you think?bengie838

The more "active world" goodies, the better. Unfortunately, they will come at a cost of FPS impact.I'd love to see large ships such as cruise, cargo and warships sailing around as well.

Great idea! I often felt this way myself, especially after hearing that X-Plane had one. To be honest I would even trade the road traffic to get train traffic, but I am sure that would not be the general consensus amongst fellow flight simmers.Regards, Mike Mann

I though we already had the cruise and cargo ships sailing around already when you have them turned on, can't say I have seen the warships though?

I too have wanted trains in the sim. LOL.gif I've often thought about how cool it would be to see the trains doing their routes while I few over places like Japan. I think track data could act like road data and just assign train AI traffic to them, but it might not look like real train traffic (Too many trains on a track or Too high of a frequency). Getting realistic route schedules might lead to the train becoming more like AI planes, but plane traffic that only taxied :( All that said I have seen a payware airport with moving trams, so it might be possible if done like that. This is where I wish I had the skills to pull of these ideas. :(

Trains are hard, you could make an animated train..but only for 60 seconds before it loops, or as road traffic style (maybe) but that most likely would suffer from the same problem the road traffic does..meaning it stops and starts every-time it crosses a Qmid grid line, in the end it looks like stationary trains might be the best you'll get, happy to be proven wrongShips... there is a great military/cruise/merchant ship addon for Australia from the OZx crew http://aussiex.org/f...ast-supplement/highly recommended!

I wasn't aware of that! Is it based on the ship traffic percentage? I have mine at around 30% or so. Will bump it up and see what happens. Thanks!

Good point regarding the 60 second loops. And thanks for the link!!!

Some airport addons come with trains in the vicinity. I think that e. g. AESlite offers this feature. At least, when approaching Innsbruck for example, there are trains which really add something to the scene. Does that count?

Aerosoft's Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany has an excellent train and surrounding traffic depiction and its a great Airport addition to FSX IMO. The trains stop at stations etc.The train is very often visible and runs right next to the Airport along with a autobahn and additional FSX cars thru the middle of the Airport. Also it gives great FPS for me.It can be purchased singley or as part of German Airports2 where you get 5 for the price of about 2. I was very happy. And no i dont work for Aerosoft.

Burkhart renk once made a trains addon for an earlier version of FS but unfortunately he abandoned the concept when trainsim came out. I think now with the advent of simconnect, it would have been an ideal addon to have.

Oh yes I remember that, was for FS2000 I think. Added trains and railroad tracks around Chicago I think. Wasn't it called FSTrain??

Aerosoft Munich X has some nice moving trains, well worth a look at if you don't mind the expense!

This was suggested back when FSX was in development. At the time ACES said it was "too hard" due to the problem of how to make an articulated train follow a curved path. I was hoping TS2 would provide a solution that could be incorporated into FS, but obviously that didn't happen.scott s..

I wonder if the guys that are MS Train Simulator addicts say - "Gee, wouldn't it be neat if we had aeroplanes to look up at".

I had hoped that if development had continued on MSFS and TS2, that one day the two sims could have been combined thanks to more powerful PC's. It was my understanding that TS2 shared the same world database as FSX as far as terrain went. Imagine flying along the Flying Scotsman with a helicopter or being able to look from the conductor's seat at that same helicopter flying next to your train! I still wish TS2 had been released.Anchorage Airport (PANC) once had a train depot in it. In the FS/TS sim, it would have been easy to swap from train to plane. Oh, well, it's nice to have dreams.
