Umberto,I am impressed with the way you handled this. I must compliment you with your patience and efforts to explain what might have happened. It shows you're serious when it comes to customer care.I own several of your sceneries and have no problems with it whatsoever. The only issue I ever had, was solved going through the forums. Mr Allensworth,Although you might not like it, your words do count. You are an authority that can influence the opinion and destroy reputations. Especially when people don't read the topic carefully.I could read the frustrations between the lines- familiar, I sometimes want to throw the pc out the window - but I do think this could have been resolved in a better way.

I think the OP tagline and tone was out of line. Best to take it to the support forum and vent only when things are really screwed up.

Isaiah,Well, I am flattered. You attribute to me more influence than I am confident that I really have (just ask Microsoft... ). But to the point you make about people reading topics here or anywhere else... I learned long ago not to take responsibility for what other people do, interpret, act, etc. As for my frustration, yes. I was extremely frustrated. I was about to climb on to a UAL flight to London, and was provided a fix that ended up breaking more of my system. I left for London with that mess to come home to. But, let's put this in perspective. Over the last 14 years or so, I have installed dozens of add-ons, both commercial and freeware, that were junk. I think if I go back over that period I can count on one hand the number of times I publically posted about any of those products. But again... my rant is about the lack of control over automatically downloaded "upgrades". It is not unreasonable to expect control over what happens to your PC. And as I said, I will not purchase or download freeware or commercial products that do not advise me of that feature in their program BEFORE I purchase it, or include it without forewarning to me in explicit and understandable terms. I will certainly NOT purchase a product that includes a program that can, with its removal, destroy wholesale, other products that I have purchased.

To get off topic for minute, Tom, I always see in your posts that you do quite a bit of traveling. I am curious as to what your profession is? Nothing more than curiosity sake....

I'm sure many that participated or simply lurked the thread, have now a better understanding of what we do and why, and maybe I've contributed to dispel some unnecessary fears, since I'm fairly happy to see that some users who initially had a very strong opposition towards our stuff, were fair enough to admit their idea has somewhat improved along the discussion, so that was a good result in any case.In any case, I would also like to add that I try to serve all our customers in the same way, it's not that Tom got any more attention, because he's the head of Avsim. Today, while this discussion was still ongoing, I had a customer with an longstanding issue, not related to the Addon Manager, but rather the scenery.cfg, which I couldn't really understand on the forum, so we had an appointment, and I've connected to his machine with a remote access program, to check it personally, and the problem was solved. Not that I'm the only one doing this, I know the QW folks also offer this kind of service, when needed.
If that were true, i would not have been so disheartened when i posted a legitimate issue i was having with one of the many add-ons that i purchased from FSDT but due to the fact that i was seemingly the only person experiencing the issue, "as stated by you" I was left to languish and sought support outside of the forum, to have the issue resolved.I am one of those simmers who read many fora but rarely post, just trying to glean as much as I can and this was a very interesting thread. I felt compelled to chime in based on my personal experience with you. I love your work and will most probably continue to purchase your products, although admittedly not with the same fervour as I did before. Support was defensive to say the least in many instances and to date my final post still goes unanswered. Do forgive me for not sharing in the sentiment that maybe some perceptions or fears are dispelled.

Let's just say that I am in an international position for a very large U.S. company and leave it at that. I do quite abit of travel, and am looking forward to the day that the closest I will ever come to an airplane is that one on my computer. I have been known to do 160k miles a year, just on United.

Tom is surprisingly modest, but anybody can find him on the Internet, where they will see that he is a top dog (sorry, I mean "cat" since he has mentioned being a cat guy, like a lot of other sailors) in his essential industry.Do you have a Platinum Frequent Flyer card, Tom?Here are the Frequent Flyer's Ten Golden Rules

  1. No flight ever leaves on time unless you are running late and need the delay to make the flight.
  2. If you are running late for a flight, it will depart from the farthest gate within the terminal.
  3. If you arrive very early for a flight, it inevitably will be delayed.
  4. Flights never leave from Gate #1 at any terminal in the world.
  5. If you must work on your flight, you will experience turbulence as soon as you touch pen to paper. Or start to drink your coffee.
  6. If you are assigned a middle seat, you can determine who has the seats on the aisle and the window while you are still in the boarding area. Just look for the two largest passengers.
  7. Only passengers seated in window seats ever have to get up to go to the lavatory.
  8. The crying baby on board is always seated next to you.
  9. The best-looking woman on your flight is never seated next to you.
  10. The less carry-on luggage space available on an aircraft, the more carry-on luggage passengers will bring aboard.

Best regards.Luis

Thank you Luis, had a good laugh. I could match all the rules to a particular flight.Pierre

Luis, no, but I have had United's 1K for a number of years. I am still waiting on them to give me a "Global Servces" rank (UAL's highest). However GS is not based on miles flown, but revenue to United. I must be too cheap!EDIT: I am not the cat person in this family. My wife is!They just happen to let me live here.
And, he's managing everything on his own, from developing the scenery to handling the site and the forum, while we at FSDT are different people, and I'm basically dedicated to customer support and I've being doing this for years so, I can understand Amir probably needs to gain some experience with support issues, but that doesn't take anything away from the quality of his work, which is very high. I wouldn't conceded the use of our sales system if the product wasn't top rate anyway...
This is the most compelling point of this thread for me. To critique is cheap, to create is divine.

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

I have a love/ hate relationship with FSDT. I have all of their airports and they are fantastic and I would miss them if I had to uninstall them. The only real problem that I have with their scenery is that sometimes the buildings show up and sometimes they don't. If you read their forums you will see that this is a common problem for many people and they are given detailed instructions on what to do to fix it but it doesn't always work. I went back and forth for months trying all the suggestions to fix the problem, I changed settings and tested different anti virus programs. The only way to use the scenery without any problems is to just uninstall any anti virus programs but doesn't that defeat the purpose of anti virus. I think FSDT need to reevaluate their system so their customers can use their excellent scenery without problems and I can use my anti virus again.

There's no real need to fully uninstall the antivirus, I always have my antivirus on and I never turn it off (I use the Microsoft Security Essentials, simple, free and does everything it needs to do, without bloat). However, to keep things simple, I've always exclude the WHOLE FSX folder from scanning, since it's very unlikely a virus would go there. And, this has the added benefit to decrease FSX startup time because, not doing this, apart to always risking false positive from various flight sim addons, the antivirus will slow down the loading time, since it will have to scan EVERY .EXE or .DLL in the FSX folder and, when you load an airplane, every .GAU file. Considering how large the FSX folder is, with several thousands of files, having it excluded from scanning can be quite effective. We always discuss ways how to speed up FSX: excluding its folder from the antivirus it's usually the first thing I do after installing it.Another advice, if using Vista or Windows 7, is to install FSX in a custom location, like C:\FSX. The issue is, your user account doesn't have permissions to write in the whole C:\Program Files folder (and subfolders) unless you always run FSX as Administrator. But, if you install it in a folder you specify at the install, there are no permissions problems, because that folder is yours. This way, lot of problems caused by addons not entirely compatible with Vista/Win7, are usually solved, because one of the reason they fail, is they try to write into the FSX folder which, under Vista/Win7, if it's under C:\Program Files, is not writable, so they either fail or even crash. The 2nd suggestion doesn't happen to any of our products, we are already 100% compatible with Windows 7, and whenever we need to write something, we always use the correct folders (usually under %APPDATA% local), but there are many addons which fail because of this, you can spot them if the developer is telling to always run "As Administrator", which is also a quick way to fix it.

Sounds like the OP is a little headstrong.I for one have both FSDT KORD and FlightBeam's KSFO and have zero issues with anything.I'll continue to purchase both FSDT and FlightBeam products. And kudos to the way developer's handled this thread. You guys have more cool then the OP does, that's for sure.

Hello Umberto,The way you stand up and face these attacks head on is quite frankly commendable. You're ok in my book. Now stop wasting your time in this stupid thread and get back to work on KLAX. I'm sure there are hundreds of simmers out there who are anxiously awaiting for that airport to be released and just like me, they don't appreciate you wasting your precious time here. tongue.gif
As I was reading this thread from the begining for the first time . . . I was wondering something similiar. Do you have any time left in the day to work on the AES lookalike or maybe replacement program? Due out when? How Much? This is not a hijak, it is just a question relating to the amount of time Umberto is spending here... and therefore not on the fun stuff.Ray
