August 5, 201114 yr In light of the appalling attacks on PMDG's e-commerce infrastructure, it seems to me that they've been punished somewhat for announcing the release date and giving these criminals the opportunity to plan the attacks. It's such a shame that PMDG has to be punished for its transparency and willingness to please it's customer's by giving us advance notice of the release. I don't think we can be critical of PMDG if they never announce a release date in advance again. We all lose as a result of this.... Justin

On the other side: I would like to know how much in productivity around the world got lost yesterday, gets lost today and will get lost over the next few days because us waiting, downloading, installing, checking out and flying! August 5, 201114 yr Well I hope all at PMDG at least got a good giggle out of the whole "OMG RANDAZZO IS ONLINE" and "OMG OMG THE FACEBOOK PICTURE HAS CHANGED" and TS and all that just before release. I hope you got to sneak into the Teamspeak channel to listen to all of us. Masters of marketing.

August 5, 201114 yr Dear all Please excuse me if this seems like a stupid querstion, but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to the net and its various quirks and goings on. I'm just curious, why does anyone do this sort of thing. Is it commercial rivalry? Is it just plain straight forward malicious vandelism? There are good (if immoral) reasons for hacking into data bases etc, there is something to gain. But what does anyone gain from these sort of attacks except notoriety - perhaps it is indeed some sad, neurotic desire to be infamous. Again forgive me if this is obvious to everyone but me. Neil G
August 5, 201114 yr They are doing it for the lulz, i.e. just for fun, malicious vandalism. Some people got carried away and blamed a certain competitor of PMDG to be behind the attack. Justin Announcing the release date doesn't have anything to do with this attack. An unannounced release date could still have been attacked. In both situations, the attacker reads the forums . so in the unannounced release, they simply would have read the release threads in the forums just as we would have read them.... ending in the same result.
