2D panel thread.

Featured Replies

Once again another thread dissapeared into thin air.. I guess, as it was full of opinion, that differed from PMDG's, it gets deleted, so it would seem. To just delete it, rather than lock it with an explaination, is just damm right arrogant. So..Whats was PMDG's reply to it all...2D's to be included in future releases or not ? Delete the threads all you want, but the fact is your customers who buy your products today, want 2D pop ups tomorro, I.E in future releases. This is a debate that has been duscussed on so many forums ive lost count and the fact is people still want, and use, 2D's.End of.

I saw a few folks questioning whether we will be adding more 2D panels: No, we will not. As previously discussed, PMDG is moving away from 2D panels. On future products we will provide 2D functionality designed specifically to support home cockpit builders, but we will not be including full cockpit panel functionality as this consumes a significant amount of resources that can be better used for increased functionality and performance.

I hear what you're saying Luke. I used to fly with 2D panels a lot as I found tweaking knobs and switches was a lot easier than when sitting back in the seat in VC view. However, now I have Ezdok and TrackIR, the 2D panel is redundant!

Let me make clear that i DO NOT fly with a 2D PANEL..I fly in VC, but have 2D POP UP'S ( FMC, RADIO, ect) on another monitor. So just to make crystal clear, i fly inVC, on a 24 inch monny, and have 2D Pop ups on another 17 inch monny off to 1 side.OK?

Not a problem, it's what many of us do... including me at times. But your original question was about the dev's standpoint on the topic, and that's been discussed before as you can see by the above quote. sig.gif

I don't want to be rude, but are you complaining about something that hasn't been developed yet?

Mr. Luke, I will not just post this to give you other or better opinion or contradict with in any way, I totally respect your opinion/request I am just conveying my experience, before the release of NGX, I never used VC at any airplane except for looking around and enjoying the view, since I purchased the NGX, I never used 2D panel again it just stopped. At the beginning it was a bit confusing, trying to do what I used to at the 2D panels, rough landings, etc. However, with practicing I am using VC at all my flights, using the space bar and mouse & mouse wheel only, it gives you more realism, you see around better, no more disappearing RWYs and to tell you the truth it's worth it to just try, and sorry about this if it doesn’t make sense to you :).I suggest you to complete 5-10 flights with VC to get the hang of it, that’s what happened to me anyway.Best wishes

Just love to fly...............

I fly both the 2D and 3D, but on landing, I switch to 2D. Going with 60% size on the 3D nakes the runway so small and it seems to move by you too fast. I simply to much better landings on the 2D. I just think if it takes 1-3 years to develop the product - how much resources is needed for a simple 2D panel? But the pop ups - overhead, FMC and throttle quad really should be a 2D also. I mean if it that much of a project, make it an addon later - or charge extra for it. I'll sort of be bummed out if the 777 doesn't have a 2D main panel. Give the people what they want? or let them eat cake?

This has stemed of off the deleted 2d thread from yesterday, and if we dont make it clear now that we want 2D pop up's then we'll be in the position we are now with no 2D throttle quad on the NGX.

Exactly...the T7 will no dout be better than the NGX,as the system would have been refined, and all bugs removed. That being said, wether its the best things since sliced bread or not, if i cant use it easily, and get frustrated by trying to move my view around the VC - whilst trying to do a visual, for example, then, without sounding like spoilt little brat, im not gona buy it.

I don't think PMDG erased the previous thread. Sometimes, they just disappear. That seems to be an issue with Avsim's forums. They don't show up on search and neither in the forum listing. And as far as the 2D panels, if you can't run a plane like the NGX in VC, then you probably don't meet the minimum requirements. If you don't, then why did you bought it? If you say that you can run the VC just fine, but you don't like it, and would rather have the 2D panel then: 1. You are complaining that during turbulence, you can't click on anything. Read the intro, and disable head movement.2. You say that you can't see both the panel and the runway. There are 2D pop-ups, you know. Or you could use the HGS. That's why it's there for. I have a 19" screen and I can see them both very well.3. You are complaining that for precision flying you need a 2D panel. I never understood what that's all about...4. You say that you don't want to buy EZCA and TrackIR to be able to look around properly. Good news: you don't need to! I don't have either of them and I can look around really well. You can press A and Shift-A to get to different views. But if you really want TrackIR, try FreeTack. You just need a cheap webcam, 4 cheap LEDs, and some beginner soldering skills. The days of the 2D panel are over. When flying in FS9 I couldn't stand the VC. But after moving on to FSX... I can't get out of it. The one thing I'd want PMDG to do would be to tell us how to remove the 2D panel from the views cycle. I do understand where you guys are coming from with this... but, really now... Everything on the missing throttle quadrant can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut. There is no real reason why you should complain that this airplane is unflyable because of the missing panel. The only reason why you're complaining is that PMDG said there would be a 2D panel. Well... isn't there one there already? Just get over yourselves.
