November 30, 201114 yr I cant even GenX to reinstall on Windows 7 now, I took it off in a huff (and needed the space for X-Plane) a few months ago because I was banned from their poxy (Playsim/Horizon) forum for telling them what I thought of the Ireland photo scenery (I was a beta tester too for them for 3+ years) and no matter what I do it wont install. I've tried every compatibility mode going and even copied a whole DVD to the desktop to install from there but it still wont install. The first part loads OK where it asks you to choose FSX or FS9 but then it quits as soon as I press NEXT. Daft thing is that when version 2 was released I managed to install it on W7 OK then, but I cant now, its crackers. Cheers, Andy.
November 30, 201114 yr Reading this with interest as I'm about to purchase Horizon's GenX for the SE. Think I will also get the respective Treescapes for it aswell.
November 30, 201114 yr @Andydigital............I'm curious!!!! what did you say about the Irish scenery to get banned from their forum? Surely they didn't get upset about hearing it was too green. Anthony O'Brien
November 30, 201114 yr Anthony that is pretty much all there was to it, that and the fact that the colour correction was none existent between East and West flight paths when the images were captured. They came out with an excuse that it was not possible to colour correct it that much, but I knew different being on the beta team for earlier products, if you had seen the Orkney's during early beta testing you would have cried at the colouration there, but they did fix it eventually and did a bloody amazing job of it in the end. I asked why this wasn't done for Ireland and proposed that it must have come down to cost...That was they last post I ever was able to make on there and I was banned for life and around 1500 posts of mine were deleted in an instant, 99% of my posts were answers to tech support enquiries. I also moderated the Freeware forum and that whole forum area was deleted a few days before I was banned, it was one of the reasons why I was so cheesed off with them and why I spoke my mind about Ireland.25 pages of indexed forum threads were deleted from the freeware forum alone, that's 25 pages with 25 threads per page, so around 625 threads (topics, not just posts) gone in an instant and all Holdsworth the boss of Playsims could say was "woops sorry we deleted the forum by mistake while updating the software", they never made any attempt to recover the lost data at all, even after I told them how easy it was to recover. I administrated about 6 forums at the time so knew the Admin Console for phpBB 3.* like the back of my hand, its pretty hard to delete a sub forum accidentally, its like that for a reason. What made it worse though was the data they lost was irreplaceable, it was built up over 3 years and it indexed 100's of freeware scenery (links with photos and descriptions of the scenery from all over the internet) that fitted in perfectly with Horizons GenX photo scenery, to say I was gutted is a massive understatement. Lets just say I import my FS hardware products from Europe now, FlightStore and Playsims can kiss where the sun don't shine, they wont be getting another penny from me. Cheers, Andy.

I recently went to their forums for first time in ages, and wondered what had happend.I remember very well when I first used GenX. You were very helpful when I couldn't understand how to install it correctly. It's pretty scary actually, just how many threads there are around about 'heavy-handed' developers. Seems to be a growing trend. November 30, 201114 yr I asked why this wasn't done for Ireland and proposed that it must have come down to cost...[/Quote]Probably................. given that the market for Ireland VFR scenery is bound to be smaller than the UK equivalent. Some companies really get their backs up over criticism when in fact in most cases it can only lead to what the customer actually wants ( or deserves) for their money. You're right of course, Ireland is TOO green, even for GREEN Ireland. I regularly fly for real in the South of the country and although the topographical representation is very well reflected in the GenX scenery the colour hue is way off. Putting it simply, upper mountainous areas in West Cork are brown, not green, even in Summer. Having said that I've temporarily used JustFlight's UK scenery in the past and that has suffered from the same issues. I believe GenX V3 is superior though I haven't been able to afford to purchase any just yet. Anthony O'Brien
December 1, 201114 yr @Andydigital............I'm curious!!!! what did you say about the Irish scenery to get banned from their forum? Surely they didn't get upset about hearing it was too green. They seem to get upset over just about anything these days. December 1, 201114 yr They haven't even answered my tech support email enquiries either, which hardly surprises me. I used the contact us form on the website yesterday and I've just sent them a proper email a few hours ago too, lets see if they ignore that as well. Cheers, Andy.
December 1, 201114 yr Too true. I can't believe they stuck Scotland on the back burner to release unfinished Ireland. What was that all about. I'm fed up with waiting for the scotland collection now. Keith Sandford.
December 1, 201114 yr Any bets that VFR Scotland will not be complete until Christmas 2013? At the current rate, that is my estimate. That's why it annoys the hell out of me when we hear absolutely nothing at all for a year, and then a PlayHorizon representative indicates that VFR Scotland North may follow South out of the door almost immediately! Do they think we're daft? December 1, 201114 yr Looks like a lot of people are annoyed with PlayHorizon's customer support. I used their support forum once only to be told by "a member of staff" that my answer was elsewhere in the forum and go have a look for it. I didn't take it to heart as there are certainly lazy posters out there but there appears to be trend. Anthony O'Brien
December 1, 201114 yr I'm sayin nowt....on the other hand ! 2006 to 2011, it's just one trail of destruction. So, newcomers to the hobby, be careful out there. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
